VIDEO: Beyond Claycord – Hero Cat Saves Child from Dog Attack

May 14, 2014 · 58 comments

This is beyond Claycord, but worth watching.

The dog belongs to a neighbor, and the cat belongs to the child’s family.

WARNING: Graphic images (the child is ok though, he just needed a few stitches).

Smart, Smart Cat.

2 Anon May 14, 2014 at 8:44 PM

Wow, my kind of cat.

Cat > Dog

4 Walnut Creek Resident May 14, 2014 at 9:10 PM

That is amazing footage!! Good kitty…. bad bad dog… I have never seen a dog behave like that. Poor child. He is a fortunate kid anyway Could have been worse if Mighty Kitty was not there to blindside that nasty dog.

5 Martinite May 14, 2014 at 9:30 PM

That dog is a danger to the public

6 Chester E. Kitty May 14, 2014 at 9:36 PM

Crazy!!

Now maybe all the cat haters will think twice!

7 Angelface May 14, 2014 at 9:44 PM

That’s some cat. It should get filet mignon for a week. Never seen anything like it.

8 NRA #1 fan and member May 14, 2014 at 9:49 PM

I want that cat, wonder if the owners are willing to take a $10,000 cash offer from me?

9 AldrigeFamily May 14, 2014 at 10:02 PM

Another Pit Bull..

10 EAST BAY VELO WORKS May 14, 2014 at 10:07 PM

That cat is a bad ass! That dog needs to be locked up.

11 Pitt hater May 14, 2014 at 10:13 PM

All pitbulls should be killed

12 Steve May 14, 2014 at 10:14 PM

I hope that dog gets put down!

13 94598 May 14, 2014 at 10:16 PM

The cats in Indiana are bad-ass!! Apparently out local cats are soft on crime- must be democrats.

14 Old Fart May 14, 2014 at 10:16 PM

Does anyone else wonder why there were so many different camera angles? If they knew the dog was dangerous ahead of time, why let the child play out front. Seems like it was staged to me.

15 Notice anything about the dog? May 14, 2014 at 10:17 PM

It’s NOT a Pitbull.

16 Videographer May 14, 2014 at 10:19 PM

Pretty poorly staged. It would have been more believable if the mother had picked up the child instead of running away while he was on the ground. Got to give them credit, though. People are falling for it left and right.

17 Anonymous May 14, 2014 at 10:22 PM

#9… Not every dog that attacks is a Pit Bull… http://www.examiner.com/article/mistaken-identity-can-be-the-pitts

18 Back breaker May 14, 2014 at 10:34 PM

Videographer your a dumb F***K!!!

19 Eudamonia May 14, 2014 at 10:35 PM

What makes this Claycord-worthy?

20 Ms. Kitty May 14, 2014 at 10:38 PM

that’s how we roll…

21 Ancient Mariner May 14, 2014 at 10:42 PM

I have all the cats a man could ever need, but I would add this one.
And, yes, I would feed it filet mignon for a week!

22 Anon May 14, 2014 at 10:42 PM

That is NOT a Pitbull. Proving that (shocker) other dog breeds bite too! Also, the mother was chasing the dog away because it was coming back. She was bitten but that didn’t get shown.

23 Idiots! May 14, 2014 at 10:53 PM

It was a chow lab mix they said.

24 BOGUS May 14, 2014 at 10:54 PM

I WORRY ABOUT THE MOM WHO RUNS IN BEFORE THE CHILD.
.PHOTOGRAPHED FROM ALL ANGLES….
FRAUD ALERT

25 Sandy May 14, 2014 at 11:05 PM

The Chronicle says the dog has been taken into custody and would be euthanized.

26 Noflow May 14, 2014 at 11:08 PM

Other sources state that the dog was put down, it didn’t look like a pit to me. I want all pits to be sterilized and the breed allowed to die out.

There are plenty of future Hero Cats available at the Martinez shelter. Entirely too many….

27 Blink May 14, 2014 at 11:22 PM

Gotta agree with 14 and 16….
What mother runs away
.

28 AldrigeFamily May 14, 2014 at 11:52 PM

yes that was a pitbull mix for sure, the way it runs, it’s tail and its stocky body type…total pitbull mix

29 sam May 15, 2014 at 12:11 AM

please google: Cat Support Network: this agency provides many cat related services.

30 @94598 May 15, 2014 at 12:38 AM

Put a sock in it, not everything in this world relates to politics!

31 Silva May 15, 2014 at 4:22 AM

I wondered about all of the ready cameras too.

32 Art May 15, 2014 at 4:40 AM

@AldrigeFamily

A better statement would be.
Another child left unattended.
You don’t hear of many dog attacks
when the parents are doing their job.

33 Blue Fan May 15, 2014 at 6:27 AM

Not that unusual to see multiple camera angles on both sides of a driveway if the neighborhood has experienced break ins. Many home security systems include multiple cameras that record when sensing movement. Not that expensive either.

34 anon May 15, 2014 at 6:29 AM

I am sure that the different camera angles are from security cameras. I have a tiger cat that is as attached to me, like that one was to the boy. Tiger cats are fierce when it counts. Only cat I had that was even more protective was a siamese. Ten razor sharp claws coming at you, you better run! I am glad the boy is O.K.

35 Awar1800 May 15, 2014 at 6:48 AM

Props to the cat!! Just couldn’t figure out why the mom didn’t scoop the kid up into her arms. Nevertheless, am glad the little guy is okay – Unprovoked attack – scary.

36 TinFoiler May 15, 2014 at 6:49 AM

Baloney! Worse than a “Pit Bull” – It’s a Dog at large.

37 Connie Dobbs May 15, 2014 at 6:51 AM

It was fortunate the cat was there, but I doubt it was defending the child. Cats and toddlers are not generally pals. It was probably more offended the dog was in its space.

The video was probably compiled from multiple cameras into a reel to be used as evidence against the dog owner. Another of the joys of home ownership, I suppose, gathering evidence against the neighbors.

38 GreatStory May 15, 2014 at 6:52 AM

Great story! So glad this baby’s cat was able to save him from the neighbor’s dog. Great cat!

39 RD May 15, 2014 at 6:59 AM

To Old Fart May 14, 2014 at 10:16 PM

The child should be able to play out front or anywhere else without having to worry about being bitten by a dog. The dog should not have been running around loose. It clearly attacked the child. Thank goodness for the cat.

It was not staged. Did you see the news last night? The child had stitches in his leg.

40 MikeyV May 15, 2014 at 7:52 AM

It sure looks like a pitbull mix…but Chows are nasty too…evil buggers.

41 Nuttsie the Nutter May 15, 2014 at 7:59 AM

Years ago our cat did a similar thing. Our small dog was attacked by a larger dog and out of nowhere our cat jumped in, attacked the bigger dog and the fight was over. An amazing thing to watch. The our dog and cat were always best friends so I guess it goes to show that friendship can happen anywhere.

42 @Pitbull haters May 15, 2014 at 8:43 AM

Clearly, this dog was NOT a Pitbull. The fact that so many of you insist that it’s a Pit or a Pit mix is evidence that Pitbulls are wrongly blamed for many attacks by other breeds.

43 Claycord-worthy May 15, 2014 at 9:10 AM

What makes it Claycord-worthy is that the Mayor liked it and wanted to post it. Claycord is a blog, not a paid-subscription newspaper or tv-news. The Mayor can post whatever he likes, and we can read it, or not.

44 CLAYCORD.com May 15, 2014 at 9:14 AM

Thanks, Claycord-Worthy!

45 Cowellian May 15, 2014 at 9:26 AM

It is GOOD to be Mayor!
;)

46 It's clearly not a pitbull May 15, 2014 at 9:40 AM

You ignorant closes minded citizens of claycord should open your eyes to see it’s clearly not a pitbull. Unless every medium sized dog is considered a pitbull. That dog is clearly a mut.

In other news check out this video of this viscous chihuahua:
http://youtu.be/lxtXpv0DyN0

47 @46 May 15, 2014 at 9:46 AM

If that Chihuahua were mine, I’d probably leave it in the middle of the freeway.

48 Blink May 15, 2014 at 9:49 AM

Sunday at Clayton park dog came after grand daughter on bike…only her dad was the protector….off leash dogs are a liability waiting to happen.
Thankfully a leash was brought out so all could enjoy evening.

49 The Closer May 15, 2014 at 10:10 AM

The story said the mother chased after the dog and was also attacked. How do you stage a random dog attack? SMH.

50 ANON May 15, 2014 at 10:11 AM

“It would have been more believable if the mother had picked up the child instead of running away while he was on the ground.”

It was REAL — get over yourself thinking all is staged in this world.

51 huey9k May 15, 2014 at 10:18 AM

Somehow, that child earned that cat’s respect.

52 Pittbull or Poodle May 15, 2014 at 10:31 AM

it really doesn’t matter. the dog is viscious and needs to be dealt with accordingly.

53 not atticus' cat May 15, 2014 at 10:57 AM

we hav enuff of dogs. soon me legions will strike. no doggies safe!

54 CCW May 15, 2014 at 10:59 AM

Apparently my sarcasm wasn’t strong enough to be able to read it.

55 Blink May 15, 2014 at 11:25 AM
56 anon May 15, 2014 at 12:22 PM

wow! I’ve heard about cat’s getting an upper hand with dogs. Go kitty go!
That dog was definitely on the prowl, very dangerous. hope he’s put down or turned over to an owner like ceaser who can handle him.

57 Troll May 15, 2014 at 6:35 PM

I would have shot that dog dead. then would have something left over for the stupid retard neighbors.

58 Female Dog Owners- suck May 15, 2014 at 6:41 PM

The only thing worse than a dangerous dog like this, is when female dog owners who barely weigh 100 lbs try and handle 3 big menacing dogs (pitt bulls or not) walking down the street. Women should not be allowed to handle large dogs. for the safety of us all!!!
