Wednesday Night Drive-by Shooting Under Investigation in Concord

May 7, 2014 23:38 pm · 36 comments

Concord Police are investigating a drive-by shooting that occurred just before 7pm on Wednesday.

Police say two vehicles were involved. The first vehicle, described as a 1999 Chevrolet pick-up with a white with lumber rack was driving north on Detroit Ave., just north of Sunshine Drive, and the second vehicle, described as silver Toyota Tacoma with an extra cab and a bed extender was driving south on Detroit approaching Sunshine Drive.

As the vehicles were parallel to each other, shots were exchanged between vehicles. Vehicle #1 then went into reverse and collided with an uninvolved vehicle, and then fled to Ravenwood Dr. where it was recovered by officers. Vehicle #2 fled down Sunshine towards Meadow Lane, police said.

At this time, no injuries have been reported, and no suspects have been arrested.

Something struck me in reading this. I know there are a lot of white trucks with racks around, probably just as many with guys packing guns, but wasn’t a vehicle of that sort wanted for the driveby murder on I80 in Richmond Saturday afternoon?

Wow! I heard this was Latino gangbangers. Very scary. When is our city gov. going to help us clean up this neighborhood? I’ve lived here for years and it’s gotten worse. Again.I heard there was at least one dead at this location on Detroit. I’m very tired of it.

Only one car was shooting the one that fled it was not a shoot out like you are making it seem. I was stopped at lynn. The guy shot and the backed up into the lady

bunny@3- Hate to say it,but nothing is going to change. There is no way to “clean-up” the neighborhood given the following:
1- Left Wing politics from Sacramento
2- Proliferation of civil rights attorneys
3- Police can’t be everywhere at all times
4- If it is gang related, it will continue
5- Revolving door prison policies
6- Tolerance at all costs mentality

How do you know it was Latino gangs? Certainly the neighborhood is heavily Hispanic and crime ridden, but proof has to be specific.

I guess you could say “that’s the way it is” here.

9 That's what happens...... May 8, 2014 at 7:58 AM

when you have a city goverment that is out of touch with the reality of the city. Cocnoprd is no long “little suburbia”. Once you have over 60,000 residents you are no longer “little suburbia”. Wake up people of Concord as this type of crime DOES NOT happen everywhere. Your PD is stretched thin and doing the best they can. The “Gang of 5″ or “5 Toads” running the city WASTES money on crap like “Auto Row” advertising (dealers get $$$ from manufactures for advertising, city doesn’t need to give them more), a freakin municiple golf course and Camp Concord. Residents of Concord need to attend city council meetings and DEMAND more police feet on the street. DEMAND and end to the building of high density housine, DEMAND a gang injuction. DEMAND that the city allow the PD to do their job which means making thing extemely uncomfortable and unwelcoming ot the gangs and if it effects their “family” (mom, dad, brothers, sisters, grandma, grandpa etc) oh well……too bad soo sad. I attend city council and can tell you that 4 out of 5 council members are COMPLETELY out of touch with the Monument area.

Concord residents need to vote each council member out when they come up for re-election. Shatter that poli-climb of Tim Grayson and Ron Leone. Stop the “council career” of Laura Hoffmeister (sp), and sadly stop Edi in his tracks (he has been a dissappointment)

10 @ Bunny May 8, 2014 at 8:03 AM

I drove thru there around 7:30 and there was not “meat wagon” so I don’t think anyone was killed. But you are right this is getting tiring. More of the good, hard working homeowner/tax payers from this area need to go to city council and raise some hell to get this area cleaned. One thing is that can be done is enforce HUD occupancy codes on all rentals in the area. I would say at least 90% of all apartments, condos, townhomes and houses in the area are over the allowable occupancy limit according to HUD regs.
And………make life miserable for th gangbanger and thier families and ACLU, La Raza and any other group be damned.

I wonder if this has anything to do with the shooting that killed that kid a few weeks ago? retaliation?

13 NoMoreFreeRide May 8, 2014 at 8:42 AM

Unfortunately it is that bad Dblock. This city must wake-up to the problems that come with high density/low income housing along with low education. It’s only going to get worse!

14 The other 99% May 8, 2014 at 9:06 AM

I’m sure it was purely innocent. . .because according to the Police Chief, Concord doesn’t have a gang problem.

16 Glad I don't live in Concord anymore May 8, 2014 at 9:52 AM

Concord seems to be in denial about how bad it’s gotten. Until the City government wakes up and cracks down hard it’s going to continue its downward spiral. Seems like the City Council doesn’t care about the majority of good people still living there. #9 is dead on.

When contractors clash?

Someone not paying sub contractor?

18 Aspirin May 8, 2014 at 10:18 AM

We need more guns. If everyone carried a fully loaded and ready weapon and were under no restrictions for use we’d have a peaceful world. Better yet, loaded and ready AK47s pack a lot of peace power but too heavy to carry every time you are out. A T shirt with “I CARRY” in large red letters will cause people to keep their distance. Imagine the respect you’ll get with such a shirt. Are hand grenades legal? They should be. They pack peace power and look so cool hanging from a belt and you’ll be the talk of the town. Fake ones can be worn but what’s the point?

19 anon May 8, 2014 at 11:03 AM

The truck that had the flat tire due to the shooting was from Baypoint. So that makes it reds against the blues like usual but according to the Police Cheif, we don’ have gangs in Concord.

20 None May 8, 2014 at 11:08 AM

Stop being scared is just another day in the neighborhood .lol

21 ConcordMike May 8, 2014 at 11:13 AM

Anybody ever consider it could have just been a case of road rage?
Very probable in this day and age.
Domestic terrorism either way.
Death penalty.
Done!

You are insane! You can’t be serious in thinking

@Antioch Resident….please tell us what it’s like living in Richmond East.

24 BagsFlyFree May 8, 2014 at 12:41 PM

What bugs me about seeing recent burglary stats (many in this corridor) and this particular shooting are the facts that we as city taxpayers throw many dollars into this larger neighborhood, and have seen minimal returns on our investment. The City Council has its blinders up, and are clueless as to how small consistent investments in areas create long term positive changes.

At what point do we finally decide to turn the arrow of blame to the Monument corridor multi family property/commercial owners that house repeat criminal offenders, illegal aliens, and over unit capacity tenants? Concord fines single family residents for repeat dispatch calls, but we don’t seem to have anything similar for apartment complexes or “hot zones” that are marked for higher crime.

Why not propose a Mello-Roos bond around the Monument corridor? All funds borrowed and paid will benefit those residents directly (per their stated needs), and will be paid by the same property owners come tax time.

BFF Out!

25 @ ConcordMike #22 May 8, 2014 at 1:25 PM

I think it would be quite the coinky-diky for both vehicle to have weapons if this were a true case of “road rage”. Considering the neighborhood…..Gangs.
Residents in this area need to start getting p*ssed off and do something. If it would have been warmer there would have been kids at the spray park @ that time of the evening. It comes down to the fact it doesn’t matter who was shooting at who………it is NOT an acceptable behavior, it is NOT part of normal life and the city needs to get of their collective fannies and deal with the gang issue or any other issues that make people think tihs type of crap (drive-by shootings) are okay in Concord. This type of event is a sign of a city that is deteriorating in the same abyss as Oakland, Richmond, Antioch and Vallejo.

26 Just sayin May 8, 2014 at 1:28 PM

@Antioch Resident

Do they even bother to report the gun shots out there? Last time I was out there some upstanding African American gentleman was driving an old Impala on the wrong side of Sycamore at about 70MPH while some other upstanding Hispanic citizens were following him in a beat up Japanese car taking shots at him. Not a cop in sight.

27 Average Joe May 8, 2014 at 1:31 PM

drive bys every week? yup, no gang problems here in Concord. I mean, drive bys are perfectly normal everyday occurences… IN COMPTON. Don’t we want to be just like that cozy little suburb…

28 BagsFlyFree #27 May 8, 2014 at 1:32 PM

YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I live off Detroit, don’t have the police visit, but would go for your idea. Maybe some of my single family & owner occupied condo/townhome owner would like to city council and raise a bit of hell over this………it our homes, our major investment that is at stake.
I know for a fact at least one townhome HOA in the area DOES NOT monitor the amount of rentals or how many people live in said rentals. Put the squeeze on landlords and HOA’s. Hit them in the wallet and maybe they will do something………It’s got to change before the entire are become the new “Bayo Vista Housing Complex” (the projects in Rodeo)

29 We've gone mad..... May 8, 2014 at 3:25 PM

@ Aspirin, yeah that’s the answer. More guns. Everyone should be able to have one!!! Let’s give them ak47′s and hand grenades. What a peaceful world this would be!!!!
Studies have proved that we have enough guns in the hands of US citizens already, to arm every man, woman and child. Where has this gotten us?? And imagine if people were able to conceal and carry. Mayhem.
The tired old mantra of “people kill people not guns” is as ludicrous as “people grate cheese not cheese graters”……

30 NoMoreFreeRide May 8, 2014 at 5:40 PM

Raise the apartment rents and clean-up the area. If that doesn’t work tear the slums down and build houses.

31 Dblock Resident - E & J May 8, 2014 at 7:55 PM

We just got done having dinner and we heard 10 pops and approximately 5 minutes later sirens. It was a REALLY late response time but Concord Police have their hands full with everyday living in these neck of the woods. Long story short it is starting to hit home literally. First off, our opinion is the gangs in this area which are surenos, the youngsters are trying to prove themselves. So, our advice is to keep to yourself and go about your business. So with that said, good thing no one was hurt also, it was 2 whole city blocks away from us and the directions of the shots fired were away from the school. LOL Good Gangbanger.

Hopefully these types of situations can be handled accordingly so there is a zero tolerance around our Concord School District. This is just our opinion. Signing out from Dblock E & J all day from the bay!

32 Gov. Ronald Ray-Gun May 8, 2014 at 8:55 PM

An Occupation by the California National Guard of Oakland and the Monument/ Detroit area of Concord is long overdue.

33 War Zone May 9, 2014 at 1:07 PM

Time to bring in the military and just take out them scumbags once and for all. Sad that there is a small elementary school right on Detriot Ave and children can be so close to these incidents.

Military force all the way. take these gangs out.

If you are going to use “Gus” please finish high school English.

Ps the families of concord would appreciate your family not turning the city into a third world dung heap.

36 @32 May 10, 2014 at 12:13 PM

The only one who’s gone mad is you.

We don’t have to imagine what would happen if we were allowed to carry concealed weapons. All we have to do is look at the 40 or so states that have allowed it for years. And statistically speaking, very few crimes are committed by people carrying legally. There’s certainly no bloodbath in the streets or people blowing each other’s heads off over parking spaces, or any of the other ridiculous scenarios gun banners like to scream about.
