Claycord – Talk About Whatever

May 2, 2014 19:59 pm · 190 comments

Happy Friday to all the wonderful citizens in the City of Claycord.

This is a post with no subject, you can talk about whatever you want. If breaking news happens (such as an earthquake), or you hear about something newsworthy, feel free to post it here.

Little boy came to school with a cute little springtime pastel t-shirt covered with little yellow peeps. Big writing: The Chicks Are All Over Me
Funny? (Oh yes, I say). Anyone care to admit they’re offended for any reason?

Well played, KAD.

There is the Diversity Festival at Todos Santos, I look forward to seeing everyone there between 11 and 3. There will be youngsters from China as well Americans of all different ethnics featured.

Let’s show the concordance in Concord.

Does anyone know how the new parking meter fees/no parking garage at Broadway Plaza combination is affecting downtown business in Walnut Creek? Personally, there is NOTHING down there that I want enough to put up with the parking situation!

Make it a super weekend, everyone!

Lorelei – I still park in the boonies by the auto repair place (Good Year?? Firestone??) behind Macy’s with no problem. Don’t mind walking….walk over to Ross, the Container Store, Cost Plus, William Sonoma, around the plaza etc…..Anyway give that area a try

17 Jojo potato May 2, 2014 at 9:40 PM

Re: walnut creek business. My local contact who’s products sell in Macy’s and other women’s departments tells me that business is lousy. She thinks the construction noise and dust is as much to blame as the 900 missing parking places. Myself, I can just walk downtown from home although there is little reason to even bother. Nothing there really that I’d want to buy.

18 KAD May 2, 2014 at 9:43 PM

Bishop Estates is having it’s annual garage sale tomorrow. Come on bye and see what you can buy.

On another note, the WC downtown library has removed Internet Explorer from their PC’s and replaced it with Chrome. This is due to the recent security problem reported in IE. I’ve got nothing against Chrome but there are some sites where it just doesn’t work. I sent them a complaint and was told they can’t apply the fix because the PCs are running windows XP and would need upgrading. I replied that there is a fix for XP systems and they should apply it and get IE restored. We shall see. I have to wonder why the windows upgrade was not done long ago. Can anyone report on the IE availability at other branches? Thanks. I’m afraid that big beautiful WC library is just a waste until this gets straightened out.

22 Scoop May 2, 2014 at 10:15 PM

Broadway Plaza is a mess. It was perfectly fine the way it was and even better when it was The Broadway and Emporium. Now it is a danger to shop there and the Security is lacking and unhelpful. The stores are uninteresting and too high priced for useless items.
I wish they had brought in a Bloomingdales instead of stodgy Neimans, that is always empty with bored sales people dozing off.
Nordstrom’s staff is obnoxious and kind of a joke to watch in action. Not sure who does the hiring there, but they need help. We are not amused.
Expect more muggings in the news with the desolate Parking situation and lazy security/

23 @Jojo May 2, 2014 at 10:16 PM

26 anon May 2, 2014 at 11:22 PM

Ask them to install ie-tab or similar, it’s a free extension to chrome. Even with the patch, it doesn’t make sense to re-enable ie. support is dead it this will happen again.

27 ChampagneKitty May 2, 2014 at 11:47 PM

to #21–People with handicapped placards are not required to pay parking meters. That information is per the DMV and comes with the placard.

Does anyone know whether street parking in downtown W.C has gotten any better since the change? That area is really designed for walkers. Which is good if you don’t mind walking. Park your car in a garage and then walk from place to place. But that is a real problem for folks who are disabled and can’t walk very well. I need to be able to park near the business I want to patronize. I just don’t go down there.

That and the nonstop sirens and this weird humming noise all day has my imagination working

Is there some new news about IE and XP? Last I heard was that Microsoft said they were NOT going to make a patch for that combo.
Don’t get me wrong, I have two of my three machines running XP and they have for years. So I’m not against it, but it’s just a ploy by Microsoft to force people to upgrade.
To be honest, I haven’t had any issues with Windows 8 (well, not yet anyway).

The city of Concord should start a marketing campaign to remind the shoppers in Walnut Creek, Pleasant Hill, and Martinez that we have free parking in Concord! No meters, no toll takers.

FYI to anyone who thinks a retailer screwed them of their lotto winnings:

>>Write down the 18 digit number below the validation date.
>>Write down the retailer’s number from whom you purchased the ticket (the numbers to the left of the 18 digit number).
>>Sign the ticket.
>>Scan the ticket yourself through the machine accessible to customers.
>>Present the ticket to the cashier. The cashier should give you a value receipt indicating the amount won AND the amount won.

But some don’t … They lie. They don’t give you the cash value receipt, and, instead, give you a much smaller amount.

Yesterday the clerk told me that I won the Mega amount of $1.00. I asked the clerk for ticket back. I told him (after finding it through all the other tickets in his basket) that it was a $10.00 winner. He suggested that I contact the owner that afternoon and that he could replay the video.

Instead, I called California Lottery Security and Law Enforcement:

The SLED immediately played the video; they searched the ticket number; they contacted the store clerk to inform him that I won. It took all of 15 minutes to correct the situation.

This is a practice far more common than people think:

And, it’s taking place in Contra Costa.

Be careful.

Clayden, have you been reading Stephen Baxter’s “Voyage”? I’m curious as to what you think of it.

Ancient Mariner, I now have the book you recommended! “How the Irish Invented Slang” by Daniel Cassidy. I’ve only just peeked at it so far. There’s 70 pages of commentary talking about the history of language and the rest of it is a dictionary of Irish-American vernacular. It explains the Irish origins of a lot of English words.

My “boyfriend” Rick Springfield is about to come out with a new book, on May 9th, called “Magnificent Vibration”. It’s his first novel of fiction. I’m curious as to what the reviews will be like. If you call, I recently read his autobiography, “Late, Late at Night”. I hope his new book will be purged of the “I’m a frickin’ rock star” tone that was in the earlier part of his first book.

From the New York Times: Get a double dose of American History! Here are reviews for two new books–“John Quincy Adams: American Visionary” by Fred Kaplan–a biography of our sixth president. Also, “Louisa Catherine: The Other Mrs. Adams” by Margery M. Heffron–this is about the wife of John Quincy Adams.

62 EdiBirsan May 4, 2014 at 8:40 AM

Cowellian gets the Gold Star Pun Award for the Day… love it.

63 @City Girl 61 May 4, 2014 at 9:23 AM

The developer is “improving” Broadway Plaza. They’re tearing down everything inbetween Macy’s and Nordstrom, including the parking garage, and rebuilding it.

64 Antler May 4, 2014 at 9:38 AM

City Girl at #61 …… It is temporary (though the “temporary” will of necessity last a longish time). The owner of Broadway Plaza is razing the one-floor buildings and adding however more stories to the replacement structures. A free valet service is being offered, and I think that is accessed near PF Changs’s. I’m sure others will add details to the above.

Recently, the City of Walnut Creek raised all street-parking meter rates to $2 per hour. That alone has brought the endemic Claycord “Haters Brigade” out of the woodwork, and ….. as is their usual envious behavior…..they continue to bash everything about City of Walnut Creek.

65 Shasta Daisy May 4, 2014 at 10:16 AM

Cowellian….Good one!

66 KXM May 4, 2014 at 10:31 AM

New cd day. KXM is “supergroup” trio made up of Dug Pinnick from King’s X, George Lynch from Dokken and Ray Luzier from Korn. If you like these bands, this cd is sure fire. I guess it would be called modern classic rock. All the King’s X harmonies and bass thunder are present, George Lynch’s slippery souped up blues playing is present and Ray Luzier’s drum style is present. Most supergroups only work on paper, this cd is very enjoyable. I particularly enjoy “Gun Fight”, about gun rights and the draconian government. Go figure, Dug is a Texan.

If you are a rock listener and have not heard King’s X, please do so. They are criminally unknown to the mass media. But when rock legends are interviewed, guess who they admire the most? It is also an interesting story, as they have Christian rock roots, but not churchy or preachy but are able to discern the intent of the songs. Dogman came out long ago and will always remain on top deck in my stereo.

67 WC parking May 4, 2014 at 10:40 AM

68 Atticus Thraxx May 4, 2014 at 10:41 AM

Dr. Jelly, I know bearer bonds, treasury notes and unopened bags of mid-grade smack are ruined by now and not likely worth the effort to retrieve. It’ll just break your heart.
If you play Cheap Trick’s “Dream Police” in your head but substitute BART police, it works.
If anyone else is watching “Vikings” how’d you like the season finale? You’d think people would have learned their lesson about “F” ing with Ragnor’s family when he bloody eagle-winged whats-his-face. Sucks season three doesn’t come until 2015.

Oh yeah!

76 VikingPrincess May 4, 2014 at 2:04 PM

I was pleasantly suprised to see the historically infamous Viking sword shown. If you note, there is a specific inscription in rune on it indicating authenticity. In addition to introducing axes for battle, this type of sword was much admired and only a certain number were made. Much research has gone into how the quality metal was mixed, as the temperature required to create a blade that strong was Not typical of the times…so humans of our time have tried to solves the mystery. Through reenactment, using known resources. There is one blacksmith that did this and he was the closest of all that have tried. He made a flick on the entire process of making a reproduction.

Despite the fact he was able to demonstrate how they created the amount of heat needed there is still the mystery of the metal alloy etc used. Was not available in the area. But something similar was available in the Middle East. Some believe inception of this sword began there I’m Viking trade and travels.

#1 item……KILLJOY !!! My husband bought me a hummingbird book with more pictures, and you were absolutely RIGHT! The petite greenish-gray one with the stubby tail is indeed a “Magnificent” …… the immature male.

#2item ……This afternoon we are raising a toast to our valiant pair of Phoebes! They are spending their time snatching and devouring those #%%€£%# paper wasps (to which I am Epipen and trip-to-ER allergic). Besides that, it is such a dapper looking bird.

Help ! Anyone have any tips for removing large weeds quickly and efficiently?
I have a recent shoulder injury so can’t use a weedeater. Pulling by hand would take eons. Any advice?

80 Clayton Squirrel May 4, 2014 at 4:18 PM

Hire someone to pull your weeds by hand.

Weedeating them is good for about 10 days. Just do it right. It’s just going to get harder to pull them as the ground dries out. Pull your weeds before they go to seed and then put down a good bark mulch.

81 Marianne May 4, 2014 at 4:29 PM

Antler, I love birds–but they keep multiplying in nests in the Attic. I love that they eat paper wasps, but the noise is deafening and I found the father bird, dying on the ground. I put him in the Trash bin. I’m going to have to get an exterminator, I hope they’re humane.

82 Killjoy May 4, 2014 at 4:30 PM

Sorry anon 79
We pulled our weeds by hand, and just did small portions every day.
What little rain we got, wreaked havoc with weeds in our yard.
Now that they are all gone again, I am going to spray roundup on the bare areas, and get some ground cover to hopefully block out any returns.
Good luck. (seriously).

87 ClayDen May 5, 2014 at 12:36 AM

I got the book, but have been very busy, so I haven’t started it yet. I doubt I will for at least a couple of weeks. It’s the end of the semester, and I am still working on grading research papers and the last homework and lab assignment. I’ll be grading final exams in a couple of weeks and then putting final grades together. Also, I’ve been away for the weekend.

88 ClayDen May 5, 2014 at 12:45 AM

I just spent a great three days at one of my favorite spots on the planet, Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. The hills were green and the racing was great. I got to visit with people I see once a year there in our camping area, the Corkscrew View; there is a group of guys who drive their RVs down from Seattle for the race. Saturday was a bit windy, but today was great. As usual, my buddy and I walked all over; my pedometer said about 8 miles a day, so I’m a bit stiff. As I was purchasing something in the gift shop Friday, I spotted Tommy Kendall doing the same thing, and we had a nice chat; he’s one of the really good guys in the sport.

89 ClayDen May 5, 2014 at 12:50 AM

I almost forgot to mention that the lunchtime entertainment at Laguna Seca today was the Blue Devils, though I never heard them mention Concord.

90 Antler May 5, 2014 at 2:45 AM

KILLJOY!!! RED LIGHT, STOP!!! If you spray Roundup, you will kill your lawn (and whatever else the spray contacts)!!!

What you want now is a product which has the words “pre-emergent broad-leaf weed killer ” somewhere on the label. ( Ortho is one company which makes a good one.)

If the broad-leafed weeds are already UP in a grassy area, then you need their spray without the word “pre-emergent” on it. Conversely, there are sprays which kill certain grasses which might be grossly clogging a beautiful flower bed.

I think you really knew all that, but then your brain pulled an autofill number on you when you were typing fast?

91 Antler May 5, 2014 at 3:18 AM

Re the subject of sprays: Meant to put in my previous post that J. at #87 is correct.

anon at #79 ….. Just my opinion (albeit it’s being based on a WHOLE lot of back-breaking personal experience)…… It’s best to pull out the entire root of each weed, but you will need to soak the soil deeply with water first to get those wicked tap roots. If a weed has a lot of seeds ready to float or fall, then put an old white plastic grocery bag over the top of it and secure the bottom with a twister while you are wrestling to pull it out. Then once you are holding the pulled weed deep into a huge black “trash and lawn clean-up” plastic bag, then you can take off the small white bag and re-use it.

Next you can use a pre-emergent broadleaf spray on the area. Using a weedeater will scatter those weed seeds everywhere, so I would try not go that route.

92 Killjoy May 5, 2014 at 5:26 AM

Thanks for the tip J.

93 Silva May 5, 2014 at 7:51 AM

Anon (#79), It really is most effective to pull the blasted things out by the roots. Gather the whole thing up in your hand at the base first, then tug tug tug them on out, and DON’T put them in your compost. You probably won’t get it done in a day, a section at a time works best for me. It’s so gratifying to see your results as you go. I find that weeding is just another one of those things I can’t escape. If you pay someone else they’ll do a half a$$ job unless you have a LOT of money. Have fun! Pretend it’s your awful boss or something really annoying you’re purging from your life or your thoughts.
On that note, a good big patch seems to be calling out to me now!

94 Dr. Jellyfinger® May 5, 2014 at 10:19 AM

Do you have a link to the story, or more details? I love reading about stuff like this.

I dunno Atticus, but he looks Irish and poor…

Does anyone know if the Farmer’s market is coming back to Concord High? I hope so but I am afraid they will not return.

109 Happy One May 5, 2014 at 9:31 PM

I know who it is, Atticus! Charlie Chaplin!

Well, then you can always use your Dr Greenjeans name. ;).

111 Website issues May 6, 2014 at 4:11 AM

Anyone else have an issue when accessing from their iPhone? I keep getting redirected to the iTunes webstore on an App called “Jelly Splash”. Happens when I first go to claycord site or when I click on any link or post once in the claycord site. Does not happen on any other website I go to on my phone.

@ Dr Jelly, are you behind this???

112 Angelface May 6, 2014 at 5:45 AM

Didn’t Charlie Chaplin look dishy under the silly makeup!

113 Silva May 6, 2014 at 6:14 AM

Yes, I too am concerned that Connie Dobbs has gone too quiet.

Antler, how did you know I have trouble with my hands? At times when preparing hot chilies or making salsa I find myself rubbing a piece or two all over them, then being mindful of not touching any sensitive areas, (eyes, nose, other mucosae). Is that product helpful?

114 Atticus Thraxx May 6, 2014 at 6:26 AM

Damn you guys are good. Yep, Charlie Chaplin.

115 Jojo potato May 6, 2014 at 7:37 AM

@KAD : We know where to step!

116 Cowellian May 6, 2014 at 8:14 AM

Connie hasn’t been heard from lately. I hope she didn’t get into some bad clams, or something.

117 Antler May 6, 2014 at 9:51 AM

Silva at #114 ….. Capsacin-HP is a wondrous product for treating muscle pain! I keep both the tubes of cream and the liquid with roll-on applicator to use after times when I’ve been gardening longer than was wise. But I never leave it on my fingers or hands.

For those trying a pepper-derived product for the first time…. You will feel stinging the first time you use it. Unless you actually are ALLERGIC to peppers, then ignore that stinging and keep using the product at intervals according to directions. Very soon the stinging sensation is replaced by the most soothing warmth, and it hits you that there is ONLY warmth….no (or at least comparatively little) pain or stiffness. Garden on, troopers!

118 Silva May 6, 2014 at 10:19 AM

Oh yes Cowellian, she did heave that cryptic post. I thought it was another one of her jokes that went over my head.

119 Antler May 6, 2014 at 10:21 AM

KAD, I promised to post more information regarding author Anne Tyler. She and I were in the same class at Needham B. Broughton High School in Raleigh, North Carolina. We were blessed to have been taught English Literature by the amazing, Phyllis Peacock, who also mentored Reynolds Price, A. Maupin… many others who have done well in the literary field.

Anne was born in Connecticut. She moved to Raleigh because both her parents (think PhD’s) were professors at the university there. Hers was always an introverted, but genuinely sweet and friendly, personality. In a group setting, one had the impression that she was soaking up all aspects of the event, its conversational content, the group dynamics, the individuals in the group……missing nothing!

She and I both were active in dramatic arts; and we were selected to enter the honorary club, “Golden Masquers”, which performed statewide in adjudicated drama festivals. Next we were at Duke University together for two years, at which time I married and transferred to UC Berkeley. Typical of her intellect and internal drive, she graduated from the university in a total of three years….unheard of! We have not maintained our friendship, but I remain in awe of her literary talent.

120 Jojo Potato May 6, 2014 at 10:35 AM

For those of you keeping track. Still no Internet Explorer on Walnut Creek (main) library computers.

121 anon May 6, 2014 at 10:44 AM

Thanks for all the weedy advice. I suppose there really is nothing I can do except pull them out by hand. Pop a few Advil, put on a hat, and get to it! Thanks guys.

122 ChampagneKitty May 6, 2014 at 10:59 AM

No Capsacin-HP for me. I tried it once and I broke out into a rash and the burning was painful. I guess that means I’m allergic. My favorite topical analgesic is available through prescription, called Voltaren gel. I love that stuff. A good over-the-counter alternative, for me anyway, is Ultra-Strength Bengay. The ultra formula is effective. You can get the name brand or the generic (store brand); just check to make sure the formula is the same. You can’t go out in public after applying it, though. It stinks to high heaven. In the past, I have tried Aspercreme; that didn’t help. Mineral Ice was slightly better, but wasn’t effective enough for me.

123 Anon2U May 6, 2014 at 11:16 AM

Wonder why Life Flight landed at the Vineyard shopping center or nearby.

124 May 6, 2014 at 11:29 AM

Every 15 Minutes program is happening at Clayton Valley High School today. No medical emergency.

125 Silva May 6, 2014 at 11:32 AM

Champagne Kitty, I don’t care what anyone says, I LOVE the wintergreen smell of Ben Gay!

126 Anon-E-Cat May 6, 2014 at 11:42 AM

And one of my cats loves to lick icy hot off of clothing – yuck.

127 Hmmm May 6, 2014 at 12:01 PM

I don’t know this person, but unless someone is on their death bed, I wouldn’t worry about someone who isn’t blogging.

128 Silva May 6, 2014 at 12:15 PM

Thanks, Mr. Mayor!

I tried SALONPAS patches recently, and found them helpful on my tennis elbow and lower back pain. I think they deliver camphor, menthol, and aspirin where you put them, and last up to 8 hours.

Champagne Kitty, I wonder if that gel would work on my hands. How long do you have to wait for it to kick in? The darned things wake me up at night, and I’ve been sleeping with splints for years.

129 VikingPrincess May 6, 2014 at 1:06 PM

@Silva & Champagne Kitty

Another good anti – inflammatory is Arnica Cream or Gel. Almost no scent. Just make sure if you use it after an injury or you have cardio health issues you tell your Doctor. Its so good it lessens or prevents bruising that you might need to know about.
Epsom salt baths or soaks help too. Especially if you need to sleep. Just know it can make people sleepy so careful and it does keep the water hot longer….

130 Antler May 6, 2014 at 2:39 PM

I agree that Ben-Gay is an excellent product (was my favorite until I discovered Capsacin, which is not greasy, is odor-free, and can go out in public without making certain people crinkle noses and flee).

Epsom salts soaks are indeed wonderful, though I personally find that the freedom from stiffness tends not to last long enough. And sometimes the resultant break-through pain happens at a time and place not convenient to a salts soaking.

Arnica products are very effective for certain “ails”, too. Silva, thanks for SALONPAS tip…will add it to my arsenal and give it a try. anon at #122, it’s crazy, but I am allergic to Advil, Motrin,…those…..the same way ChampagneKitty is allergic to Capsacin.

131 Silva May 6, 2014 at 2:51 PM

Viking Princess, good tips! Thanks.

132 ChampagneKitty May 6, 2014 at 8:05 PM

to Silva: The directions that comes with the Voltaren gel says: “Do not shower or bathe for at least 1 hour after applying Voltaren gel. Do not wash your treated hands for at least 1 hour after applying Voltaren gel. Wait 10 minutes before covering the treated skin with gloves or clothing.”

to Anon-E-Cat: You should see the way my cat Abby reacts whenever I use the Ultra-Stinky Bengay. First, she wrinkles up her nose and squints her eyes as if it’s the most revolting smell ever. Then a moment later, she gets an interested look on her face and wants to get closer to smell it. Then she wants to lick the skin I applied it to. Except I don’t want her to because I worry that it may be toxic for her. But it’s so funny watching her go from being disgusted to wanting to taste it. Lol!

to Angelface: I agree! I’ve seen photos of Charlie Chaplin without The Tramp makeup. Dressed in a nice suit, with hair combed…he was very handsome!

135 KAD May 6, 2014 at 11:38 PM

1 – Angel face – Dishy? I have not heard that before.

2. Antler – “thank you for the info on Anne Tyler – I am on my second book – The Amateur Marriage” that I picked up from the Concord library on Sunday and regret when I have to put it aside for things like dinner.

3. OK I will be the first – Free Connie Dobbs – my second most favorite blogger. Antler being my first favorite.
4- Farmer’s market at Concord High – Is it coming back?????

Thank you.

136 Randi Brammeier May 7, 2014 at 12:50 AM

Does anyone know what was going on on Treat Blvd today around noon by Lime Ridge going towards WC? There was a cop car on side of road w tents set up and they were pulling random cars in from what I could tell. My boyfriend said it was possibly a smog check point, that some cities are doing that now. All I know is they had a few tents set up w computers and pulling cars into the slow lane, which was blocked off.

137 Killjoy May 7, 2014 at 6:23 AM

The several times I went to the farmers market at Concord High, I found it to be very tiny. Little to no selection for anything. In fact, the one block long farmers market in Clayton is bigger (and it’s a very short block).
The farmers market at Todos Santos is the one to go to for lots of selection.

138 Angelface May 7, 2014 at 7:40 AM

KAD, “Dishy” is how older anglophiles say “HOT”.

139 Cuzzzzzzzzzzzzz May 7, 2014 at 8:01 AM

Killjoy – you should check out the farmer market they have in Martinez on Sundays………FANTSTIC!!!!!!!!!!! And……….They sell canolis!!!!!!

Rebecca I want to try something. Let’s see if anyone misses you when your gone. Start now.

145 Pegasus May 7, 2014 at 10:04 AM

@ Rebecca K. –
Unless one has an appreciation for her type of quick dry wit, some comments posted by Connie Dobbs may not suit you. Others simply will not grasp her comments due to their own intellectual inferiority.
My guess is that Connie has a low tolerance for BS and calls out those who post BS.

146 Puddintain May 7, 2014 at 10:21 AM

Same old tired troll folks. Ignore it.

147 Antler May 7, 2014 at 10:22 AM

KAD at #136 …….. Your compliment means a great deal to me. Thank you!

#146 …. No, I do not post using “Angelface”, nor do I understand why you would jump to that conclusion. I’m like KAD in never having heard the term “dishy”. Is it possibly a regional term specific to this area? (KAD and I both grew up in other parts of the country.)

148 Puddintain May 7, 2014 at 10:33 AM

Rebecca K.=Rose Garden, etc., etc..

Atticus at #147. …….. :-)

There is a difference between “out right” and “outright” that you don’t understand.

154 Angelface May 7, 2014 at 12:25 PM

Antler, you’ve surely heard “he/she’s a real dish!” before. In jolly old England people can simplify to”he/she’s dishy!” Sorry for the confusion. I guess it’s not heard much around these parts.

#162, Yeah, you’re always nice too.

161 Cowellian May 8, 2014 at 7:37 AM

Speaking of herons, we have a blue heron that lives behind us. It is a thing of beauty to see him in flight. But when he is standing around, or taking off, or squawking, it is a reminder of how closely related birds are to dinosaurs. I’m pretty sure that Old Blue has pterodactyl genes.

162 Shasta Daisy May 8, 2014 at 8:11 AM

Cowellian, I have a blue heron in my backyard, too. A couple of years ago for my birthday, a special friend gave me a blue heron garden sculpture. Not sure what kind of metal it is made from. It is beautiful!

Lucky you for having the real thing.

By the way, I have western bluebirds nesting in my backyard again this year. Second year that they have used the nesting box. Not sure how many eggs. She is always sitting on the nest when I look inside.

163 Dr. Jellyfinger® May 8, 2014 at 9:17 AM

Stop looking inside. It scares the crap out of the bird & the eggs will get all dirty.

164 Aspirin May 8, 2014 at 10:07 AM

@KAD, No but some may give a discount for cash. Ask.

165 Silva May 8, 2014 at 10:21 AM

Atticus Thraxx, totally cool. My orca’s dancing to 1983 technoboogie and it can’t stop though.

166 Shasta Daisy May 8, 2014 at 11:14 AM

Dr. Jellyfinger….No worries. All is well in the nest. Trust me, I wouldn’t do anything to disturb them.

This morning I saw four eggs.

167 mika May 8, 2014 at 5:03 PM

Did I just bite a bullet? Anyone heard of Dependable Duct Cleaning? They called me on the phone and offered a $39 deal to clean my air ducts. They said they were licensed. When they showed, up, I asked to see the work order to confirm exactly what they were going to do, and they had none! I asked for their contractors license number and they didn’t know. Guy told me I could look in their unmarked truck and see they have the tools! I sent them on their way. Both men were I am assuming Russian /Slavic by their strong accents. Be careful out there!

Yes Cowellian, it is so completely recognizable, isn’t it? It’s not a very clever troll.

170 @Cowellian May 9, 2014 at 9:37 AM

younger trolls are better than some of the older trolls on here!

171 Cowellian May 9, 2014 at 10:21 AM

190 Connie Dobbs May 10, 2014 at 8:00 AM

Oh. You’re her boss. You’re super professional. Chevron is such a tiny company, and hardly anyone around here reads Claycord. What are the odds someone who recognizes your name might read this? You want attention, you just wait until the wrongful termination suit, you’ll get plenty then. They’ll think twice before putting some other yappy female child in a position of limited authority. Way to light the path for your sisters.
