Intruder Alert: Claycordian Finds Unknown Man in Backyard this Morning

May 1, 2014 13:06 pm · 62 comments

Claycordians, read this email from a Claycordian who was surprised to find an unknown man in her backyard this morning.

I came home to find someone in my backyard and I want to pass the information along.

At approximately 8:15am I returned home from taking kids to school to find a man on my back porch. I live on a private street off of La Vista and Clayton Rd. in Concord. He was only 5 feet away from me through out sliding glass door so I was able to get a good description: White male, young, 20s something but weathered skin as if spends a lot of time outside, buzz cut hair, medium brown hair color, 5’7″ approx., 160-170lb. weight approx., white t-shirt, light colored baggy jeans, chain at left pocket. He had a tattoo of a cross on his left cheek, tattoos that wrapped around his neck and covering both arms that I was unable to identify.

I yelled I was calling the police and he took off over the fence.

We called the CPD who came immediately, made a report and notified close neighbors but I wanted to get this information out for anyone else in the area.

If you live in the area, keep an eye out for this guy.

1 To bad that you May 1, 2014 at 1:13 PM

didn’t just shoot the bastard.

Would have been one less scumbag to deal with.

2 Saske May 1, 2014 at 1:15 PM

I like how they wrote “weight approx”. You mean you couldn’t get the guy to step on a scale??!!

But seriously, this may not apply to all situations, but some folks might consider spending about $5 on a padlock for your backyard gate. Most people don’t bother, which means that those who do are much less likely to find “man in backyard”.

3 Enfield303 May 1, 2014 at 1:17 PM

Face tattoo, nice. Should be easy to find.

4 Shuley May 1, 2014 at 1:38 PM

@ Saske

Reading is fundamental.. The part where the homeowner said “he took off over the fence” implies that the lack of a lock would not have stopped this guy..

5 anon May 1, 2014 at 1:40 PM

Sic a dog on intruders!

6 Good job ! May 1, 2014 at 1:44 PM

Thank for the heads up. You did exactly the right thing. Yes, we’d have one less turd to deal with if you did what #1 suggested, but you would be in jail for doing that.

Be prepared to defend yourself if it happens again and the turd decides to come in and have is way with you. You don’t want that. Shoot him then. As long as you are in fear for your life, it’s justified. But you have to be in fear for your life. If he’s running away, your not in fear for your life. You have to wait for him to break in, putting you in imminent danger.

Go to the range and get trained. And vote against every politician working to take your right to self defense away from you. (That includes Desaulnier)

7 Marianne May 1, 2014 at 1:48 PM

Thank you! That’s my neighborhood, we will be on the lookout!!

8 Mr. Pink May 1, 2014 at 1:48 PM

“He had a tattoo of a cross on his left cheek…”

SOMEONE must know this guy.

9 Idiocracy May 1, 2014 at 1:49 PM

#6 That means vote out all democrats and hippy liberals, good luck with that in this state

10 Just me May 1, 2014 at 1:58 PM

Why not call the cops first. Obviously the guy had no clue you were there. Could have caught the guy.

11 Wondering May 1, 2014 at 2:02 PM

That’s right by Markhem park…with the people who frequent that place along with those who live in it, I’m not surprised.

12 sam May 1, 2014 at 2:03 PM

Why would you call out to this “perp”, instead of quietly calling the police?

13 Deborah May 1, 2014 at 2:25 PM

Called the police on him on Tuesday. Told him to get off my property and he followed me to my front door! Called police…………police came about 15 minutes later, I told them where he was sitting they had a talk with him and let him walk away because he didn’t touch me! Disgusting guy!!!!!!

14 Stay on Him! May 1, 2014 at 2:27 PM

I would’ve yelled at him too. She wanted the guy the heck off her property, and she succeeded.

Had she called 911 without yelling, he could’ve broken in, harmed her, and I doubt CPD could get there fast enough. Unless they happen to be right around the corner, good luck!

By the description she provided, she sounds observant to me. He also sounds very rough looking. She did the right thing.

15 anon May 1, 2014 at 2:43 PM

Even if the CPD caught the guy, he would be told not to go back to that house. No crime.

16 me May 1, 2014 at 2:52 PM

good thing they notified the neighbors because he is most likely one of them. Please invest in some cameras. be safe. thanks for the heads up

17 biggus thinkus May 1, 2014 at 3:11 PM

lock gate, check.
dogs that bark, check.
if confronted at close range, will fling poo and scream.
once bad guy is in shock, will proceed to start a ruckus.

18 Sara G. May 1, 2014 at 3:14 PM

If this piece of garbage is in my back yard, he is trespassing and I will procescute to the fullest extent of the law. There is a neighborhood watch in Canterbury Village that is on the lookout for this bastard. He needs to go BACK to prison, with the rest of his tattooed face friends!

19 Badger May 1, 2014 at 3:18 PM

Weathered skin, tattoo on the face. Called a meth head. In case you haven’t noticed, Concord is infested with them.

20 NutCreek Frontier May 1, 2014 at 3:18 PM

People this writer was kind enough to share a safety alert with Claycord, can you just be appreciative and stop with the Monday morning quarterbacking . Thanks to the writer and glad you weren’t harmed.

21 twilight May 1, 2014 at 3:22 PM

@15: isn’t trespassing a crime?

22 anonanonagain May 1, 2014 at 3:23 PM

Very scary. Too many brazen people out there!!! With a distinctive tattoo inked on his face, he will be found soon……

23 anonanonagain May 1, 2014 at 3:25 PM

I am surprised that Markham Park off of La Vista isn’t patrolled more often than it is. I go for walks and I often see very suspicious people hanging out. It’s rumored that drugs are sold and used there.Too bad because it really is a lovely park…..

24 Saske May 1, 2014 at 3:31 PM

Hey Shuley, That’s why I said this may not apply to all situations. And this situation would be included in “all”.

25 Done May 1, 2014 at 3:49 PM

Weathered face = Meth Addict

26 ol' Ollie May 1, 2014 at 4:05 PM

Criminals and thug types mark themselves up (tattoos-gold teeth-etc) and wonder how they were recognized.

95% of them don’t have the brains God gave a slug; this makes them more dangerous because they don’t have the decision making ability to stop themselves from doing absolutely stupid things.

27 Darwin May 1, 2014 at 4:11 PM

Tattoo’s on face and neck = winner

28 Suzanne May 1, 2014 at 4:17 PM

He will be back again since the police did nothing, stay on the lookout for this guy…he obviously doesn’t care about tresspassing to get to his objective.

29 Jules May 1, 2014 at 4:19 PM

Meth addict – they are brazen as can be – they are, though, when caught, like skittish little kittens. This same thing happened to my mom – she looked out in her yard and found a guy crouched at her sliding glass door hiding under his hoodie.

30 anon May 1, 2014 at 4:20 PM

@deborah – I hope the CPD read your posting and put 2 and 2 together. There were so many transients and juvenile punks in my neighborhood, that general descriptions matched all of them. Even if I saw a repeat offender, I was never allowed to know their name, because they were juveniles. It is frustrating when you want to I.D. someone and you can’t because no one will tell you their name. Finally the officers started photographing the regulars and it was a big help.
@twilight – trespassing was explained to me years ago by the officers and it is a hard crime to prove. The requirements are that all of the entrances to your property have to be posted with a sign that states “no trespassing”.
If the sign is on your fence and the dirtbag enters your front yard, they technically are not trespassing. This also applies to any dirtbags located in your back yard if they entered and there are no signs visible. I still believe that having your immediate neighbors phone numbers on your cell phone with there name preceded with a number like ” 3dirtbag ” rolls it to the top of your phone book and allows you the quickest access to their number when needed. It will also get you a quick response, while letting the dirtbag know their are more of you then there are of them. Always call dispatch or 911 first if possible. The deputies really do like to catch them, they feel as if their hands are tied in these cases too.

31 anon May 1, 2014 at 4:23 PM

Please replace there with their on my earlier post. I forgot to proof read.

32 dilligafman May 1, 2014 at 4:24 PM

As they used to say on daytime gameshows”COME ON DOWN”. Door #1-Mossberg,Door#2-Glock,Door#3-Smith&Wesson!!! Everyone wins (well almost everyone).

33 Silva May 1, 2014 at 4:30 PM

To creepy. Thanks!

34 Michelle May 1, 2014 at 4:46 PM

Stay wary, the neighbors are on the look out-and will find you.

35 Anne Disch May 1, 2014 at 6:01 PM

I live near there also and thank you for the heads up.

36 Typical moron commenter May 1, 2014 at 6:04 PM

This obviously wasn’t random. You must have known the guy. It was probably a drug deal gone wrong. It’s your fault, anyway, for not putting a Club on your gate.

37 VikingPrincess May 1, 2014 at 6:20 PM

Guy has some very specific markings. Easy to identity. You were quite kind.

In some places, that might be grounds for hunting practice for my brother Erik. He prefers axes…long handled types. Never know who might be in your yard, but you never know what kind of person lives there.
What WAS he thinking

38 Huelga May 1, 2014 at 7:27 PM

Maybe this guy wants to go back to the pokey. Face and neck tattoos, Really? Times have changed, but probably not that much.

39 RunDogRun May 1, 2014 at 7:34 PM

Give him Mark Desaulnier’s address
and tell him he’ll get better stuff. If
Desaulnier is bothered like the rest
of us, it will give he and Bonilla
something to actually do.

40 @RunDogRun May 1, 2014 at 7:44 PM

Actually desaulnier had an incident occur recently next door to his house. I believe a home invasion where a grandmother was tied up? He came to her aid. So he does know crime

41 Concordejet May 1, 2014 at 8:02 PM

trespassing is a crime but it just a petty crime.

42 Uncle Fester May 1, 2014 at 8:56 PM

I’ll shoot him in the back!

43 ConcordMike May 1, 2014 at 9:03 PM

Has the DA returned to prosecuting low level crimes yet?
Last I heard they said they won’t prosecute these low priority crimes.
Cameras, dogs, alarm signs… all good to have.
NextDoor.com is also a good network for your immediate neighborhood along with ClayCord.com.

44 Grob May 1, 2014 at 9:11 PM

So the home owner failed for not taking a picture.

Also, this is a perfect example for owning guns. Protect yourself and your family from people who invade your property and home. This guys next move could be to enter your home.

45 RunDogRun May 1, 2014 at 9:41 PM

40 @RunDogRun

Well enough to do anything about it?

46 MommaToTwo May 1, 2014 at 10:37 PM

Not sure what I would’ve done first… but I think I would’ve called the police and give them a description. He was probably back there coming down off his high and had no idea where the hell he was. My 80 lbs German Shepard might be mean or she might lick him to death….probably the latter. But, when she barks, she sounds like Cujo. Woof !

47 Teacher Wannabe May 1, 2014 at 10:37 PM

@idiocracy #9. Why do some people gotta bring politics into everything. Do you mean that if there were no democrats there would be no criminals sneaking into backyards? Maybe the guy in the backyard would have been wearing a suit and carrying a briefcase? There will always be shady characters.

48 Suzie May 1, 2014 at 10:50 PM

stupidity abounds. ….

49 VikingPrincess May 1, 2014 at 10:53 PM

@teacher wannabe
LOL. Heaven forbid if you find a person in a suit with a briefcase. That could only mean a few things…you have some form of government on the premisis or if he’s bald, your in an episode of Fringe.
I might first laugh…. but then I think it would be even more frightening than “tat” guy.
What a visual…ha!

50 unknown May 1, 2014 at 11:06 PM

He’s a local. Not for sure if hes a transient. Saw him last week at quarter pounder and Safeway on willow pass.

51 Suzie May 1, 2014 at 11:12 PM

Some would say or do anything to try to cover up an unforgivable moment.

52 N's Mom May 2, 2014 at 8:32 AM

So glad to hear you are okay. Thank you very much for taking the time to write in and let your fellow Claycordians know what happened to you.
Hopefully he won’t harm the next surprised victim in their yard or home.

53 The Mamba May 2, 2014 at 8:44 AM

I would think those tattoos would make him pretty easy to identify, especially among the urban camping crowd.

54 irishill May 2, 2014 at 8:47 AM

Thanks for taking the time to let us all know about this. That’s why we need gunowners!

55 Peter May 2, 2014 at 9:04 AM

I am pretty damn sure this guy passed out near my house and got picked up by the cops yesterday!

56 Mother Of One May 2, 2014 at 9:13 AM

So glad that there were no casualties in this, it could have ended badly. Next time just call the police before running. Everyone needs to take action against people like this to make our neighborhoods safer.

57 jtkatec May 2, 2014 at 9:40 AM

Typical moron commenter, good one!!

58 RunDogRun May 2, 2014 at 10:14 AM

If you separate politics from
the daily events of your life,
you get the mess of crime
you’re seeing in Oakland and
Concord. Instead of creating
jobs and opportunities, our
elected officials are up the
butts of the LBGT and now Q
lobby. This issue is draining
critical resources and attention
away from the legitimate
problems our nation is facing.

59 RunDogRun May 2, 2014 at 10:19 AM

40@RunDogRun He called the police
at the neighbors request. BFD!

60 #rundogrun May 2, 2014 at 11:34 AM

why are you so scared of lbgt? Concord is no where like Oakland. Please just stay under your covers.

61 RunDogRun May 2, 2014 at 12:38 PM

How long have you been
in the area? Concord is
worse thsn Oakland was
in the 70s and we all know
how that turned out. I’ve
been in Claycord since
1950 and it bears no
resemblance to the safe
place it once was … never
again will.

62 anon May 3, 2014 at 3:59 PM

Call the police and ask for the k9. Figo’s out right now but I’d like to see Rocco.

Did I mention I saw Rocco the other day going for a walk with his handler? And Rocco wanted to stop to see me but his handler wouldn’t let him. Then when he left Rocco called him a stupidhead. I don’t think his handler heard it.
