Concord Police arrested a 17-year-old Pittsburg male, who had a loaded gun, after a brief foot pursuit in the area of Mendocino Dr. & Roland Dr. just before 7pm on Monday night, according to police.

Police received a call at about 6:45 from a witness saying they saw the male brandishing the handgun, and when police arrived, they located the suspect, but the suspect fled on foot. He was captured a short distance away. The suspect was in possession of a loaded pistol at the time of his arrest, police said.

The unnamed suspect was charged with possessing a loaded firearm and resisting arrest.

By my house again these Pittsburgh and Antioch peeps need to get out they have no business in our town. Ridiculous.

I obviously don’t know everything about this case, but if we were supposedly serious about getting tough on gun crimes, aren’t there several other charges that could be applied in a case like this? For example, was the gun registered to him? Was he licensed to own a handgun? If he brandished it, wasn’t he threatening someone? Apply the laws on the books.

3 GoodGrief April 30, 2014 at 7:24 AM

Yep. Bad guys just go ahead and carry a gun – they don’t need a permit.

4 Anonymous April 30, 2014 at 7:48 AM

The police need to find out how he acquired his gun. If a family member gave him the gun, file charges against the family member. If he bought the gun on the street, the police need to focus on the neighborhood where he illegally purchased the gun. Police should perform the same kinds of sting operations they perform for prostitution and drug trafficking and district attorneys should prosecute anyone who illegally sells or transfers firearms.

In many cities he would be dead….which would not be a bad idea.

6 PO'd April 30, 2014 at 8:05 AM

What a bright future ahead for this young man!! Another one from Pittsburg coming over the hill to pick on Concord, apparently without fear of getting caught by CPD.Still a juvenile, he has plenty of time to learn his craft
and put it to use. Sounds like a lifetime of crime and punishment ahead for this worthless piece of skin.
Kudos to CPD for busting this human debris without a shot fired.
My advice to the citizens of Concord-arm up, learn your weapon and don’t be afraid to use it if someones enters your home.It could be your only chance. He and his ilk will be back.

11 Awesome April 30, 2014 at 8:29 AM

Good job Concord Police as well as concerned resident! Keep it up! This is how we get these Antioch/Pittsburg thugs out of our city! If everyone called in to report suspicious behavior we can help clean up the streets!

12 GoGo Gomez April 30, 2014 at 8:33 AM

WTF way to close to home! And schools in the area!

13 Michelle April 30, 2014 at 8:39 AM

The big question is, where did he get the gun? and where are his parents?

Just thankful we are not dealing with a “resident, student, or officer DOWN” as a result of this. And so near three schools……who knows what was interrupted! Agree with you, GoGo!

16 Molto April 30, 2014 at 9:28 AM

@ #16 its people like you that keep crap this going on and somehow blame it on the 2nd Amendment

1st off punish the kid to the full extent. He’s under age illegally carrying a loaded firearm and used that firearm in a criminal like manor in a crime. 2nd since he’s under age Im sure he purchased or stole the firearm illegally as well.

Part of our Liberal politicians problem is they only want to make more gun laws, when we aren’t or cant even enforce the ones that are currently in effect. We don’t have the policing to be able to do so. Not to mention the system is generally a huge failure and only slaps criminals like this on the wrist just for them to go out and do it again. Its a revolving door in our police stations and prison systems.

Now Im all for gun control, but how are you going to enforce more upon legal citizens when you can even control what laws we currently have? Nothing is going to stop all gun violence and crimes, because there are always going to be criminals out there, but there are deff things we can do to help decrease gun crimes and violence. And a good start is cracking down on what laws we currently have and go from there…

What? Why on earth? Well I will say this, if my son thought for a second, that it would be ok to do something of this magnitude….. he would have weed pulling duty for his entire life. At least as long as I am alive. Sadly, it is not as outlandish as it may have seemed only a few years ago. Hooligans. Mayor, how about we get a petition started that states this…… any minor caught in the act of shenanigans shall be punishable by hard labor. Real community service. Mowing lawns of the elderly with a push mower and raking lawn clippings with a wicker rake. Scooping duck poop off the marina paths with a hand trowel. Cleaning the public restrooms at parks with white glove inspection. Using only a shovel, Hand rototill one of the empty lots in downtown Martinez….. then plant a garden and maintain it for 6 months.

Gun lovers in some states are fighting to allow people to carry loaded and concealed weapons legally !!?. That will not happen in California but it doesn’t protect us against gun lunatics from other states infiltrating into our state.

24 @ #23 April 30, 2014 at 1:55 PM

#23: Now that’s a brainless comment. Chicago’s not an island. In one study, 43% of guns seized in Chicago came from other parts of Illinois. The remaining 57% came from out-of-state locations with lax gun laws. The fact is, Chicago has experienced a significant DOWNTURN in homocides in the last decade and a half. It’s rated #79 on Neighborhood Scout’s list of the 100 most dangerous places to live in America. Gun violence in Chicago is largely fueled by a well-oiled underground network of dirty gun dealers and middlemen who bring guns in from the outside, as well as a huge gang problem. It would make more sense to crack down on this network than to say the laws aren’t working and throw in the towel.

25 Concord Resident April 30, 2014 at 1:56 PM

Anyone who isn’t waking up to the fact that this area–El Dorado, Concord High, and the surrounding schools and residential areas isn’t plagued by issues from Pittsburg and Antioch is delusional and ignorant themselves. If kids want to come here to attend school by all means but if you’re over here to cause problems you can get to stepin’….ummmmmk….

26 @None April 30, 2014 at 2:03 PM

You seem really bright and intelligent. Please tell us all more….hahahahaha….

27 @Aspirin April 30, 2014 at 2:05 PM

Please do a little research before you spout off. Most other states allow the average Joe to carry a loaded concealed weapon. Even some counties in California do. And California does not recognize permits from any other state.

It’s not the people carrying legally that you need to worry about. It’s the ones who don’t follow the laws.

28 anon April 30, 2014 at 2:33 PM

You never hear about all the student’s that have been caught at our MDUSD schools with loaded guns and student’s with knives. Don’t you think that maybe earlier this teen was at Concord High School?

Scum bags live in the neighborhood. Some at 1501 lavetta way, brown apartments. They are training next generation of losers. You’ll see them out walking every once in a while.

We all judge others by our own particular experience and set of rules. Your comment tells me all I need to know about YOU. You clearly are fearful and unstable and therefor believe others are unstable also.
YOU are someone who should never own a firearm. Probably shouldn’t even be driving.

This is WAY too close to home for me. Anyone interested in forming a Neighborhood Watch? I know Dana Estates has one. Perhaps if we can all stay involved and vigilant we can do something about this and see criminals vacate from our neighborhoods.

They should have “located” him in the crosshairs of a high powered rifle…..

Well you fail as a psychic, a psychologist and a student of human character. I’m about as stable as they come – happily married over 2 decades, have worked hard and successfully all my life, well-traveled, pilot’s license, speak several languages, perfect health, lots of friends, never arrested, no mental/emotional issues….I could go on and on, but why bother. If you were trying to nail my personality, you missed miserably.

41 me May 1, 2014 at 7:58 AM

@32
Be careful not to confuse the gun-nuts with actual facts.

42 Jeff May 1, 2014 at 8:01 AM

SO – once again, a youth who can’t LEGALLY possess a firearm uses one in the commission of the crime, and people blame THE GUN. IDIOTS. It’s not the gun that is the problem – it’s the criminal mentality.

Wouldn’t it be nice to read about a law-abiding citizen who defends themselves against these perps? Guess what??? It happens 4000 times a DAY.

I now live in a different state, and have a concealed carry permit. I also do armed security work, and let me tell you – people who carry guns legally UNDERSTAND the responsibility that comes with that right and don’t violate the laws. It’s ONLY the idiots out there who shouldn’t have em in the first place.

The sensationalism about gun violence was spurred on by the Brady Campaign after the assassination attempt on Reagan in 1980. The lies, misinformation, and speculation about “gun violence” that comes from their mouths is clearly “shot down” by the FACTS. When guns are present, crime goes DOWN, not up.

And since California will soon be a shall issue concealed carry state, I would expect you to see this for yourselves. But keep telling yourselves that the decrease in violent crime is for other reasons. We all love ostriches when they stick their heads in the sand :-)

43 offdutydeputy May 1, 2014 at 11:20 AM

Whatever your views are on gun laws are, the bottom line is we continue to arrest the same people over and over and they aren’t “punished” for their crimes.

I’ve arrested several people with guns over my career and I can’t remember a single time that the gun was legally registered or not stolen. Rarely do the cases ever see a court room, and often I see the same people back on the street on MISDEMEANOR probation for the weapons charge.

If you have a problem with repeat offenders never being held accountable, start questioning why the DA’s Office would rather cut these guys/girls deals to save time and money and stop questioning why the Police are doing their jobs. It’s hard to protect the citizens of any city when criminals don’t fear the “punishment” they will receive for breaking the law.

44 @me #49 May 1, 2014 at 11:51 AM

Not much chance of that, since the facts in post #32 are few and far between.

45 SAMMANTHA May 1, 2014 at 2:05 PM

UNSTABLE?

46 SAMMANTHA May 1, 2014 at 2:10 PM

one more thing #48 -
There is no such thing as a “pilot’s license”. In addition to being fearful you’re also a liar.

47 Jjjj May 3, 2014 at 1:20 AM

You people are dumb. He was walking his girlfriend home and a young gentlemen approached him with four other young men trying to jump him.

48 Anon May 3, 2014 at 8:20 AM

Yes I’m sure if you added ten new gun control laws he would have followed one of them, he seems like a concerned citizen.

FYI the libs announcement of wanting repealing the second amendment will double the profits of the gun industry for next year. I swear the libs in power own stock in the weapons industry. Someone needs to look into their stock portfolios.

49 @Samantha #54 May 3, 2014 at 2:04 PM

The FAA seems to disagree with you.

http://www.faa.gov/pilots/become/

50 @Sammantha May 3, 2014 at 4:46 PM

What is your problem? In general conversation among lay people, yes we call an airman’s certificate a pilot’s license. I received my license from FAA Examiner RJ Jones, out of Oakland.

I flew out of Buchanan field for many years as a private/general avation pilot and was the president of the local 99s for a year, representing our area at national conventions. That’s the international women pilot’s group founded by Amelia Earhart decades ago. I was certified to rent Cessnas from Buchanan Flying Club and Warriors from what was then Navajo Aviation. I also helped teach “White Knuckle” flying seminars’ with my fellow female pilots, many of whom were professionals.

So, in addition to being a bully, calling me a liar, you’re monumentally dumb. I can’t have a battle of wits with an unarmed person.
