An 18-year-old Antioch man was shot and killed in Concord on Thursday night, a Contra Costa County coroner’s deputy said today.
Officers responding to a report of a shooting in the 1600 block of Adelaide Street around 8:55 p.m. found a man identified as Victor Manuel Gutierrez suffering from at least one gunshot wound.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police said investigators are looking into what led to the shooting.
No suspect information was available.
The killing was Concord’s first homicide of 2014.
Police are asking anyone with information about the fatal shooting to call Detective James Nakayama at (925) 671-3478. Those who wish to remain anonymous may call (925) 603-5836.

I’d say with near certainty that the shooter knew the victim, its not a random drive-by. I’d hope the investigators can find this guy, they’ve got plenty of information.

Tragic that a man’s life was cut so short, so abruptly. Perhaps he didn’t have the chance to realize that running with the wrong crowd ups your chances of being shot or killed or going to jail. Whatever the situation is, a young man’s life was lost…..I hope they catch the idiots that think that having a gun makes them a real man.

So, so sorry for your loss. I raised my son in Oakland. He lost many friends growing up to gun violence. Most of those kids were killed for saying something some other kid didn’t like. A few just took a stray bullets. That kid from De LaSalle who was murdered the day before he went off to college was killed because someone else was jealous. Whatever. The violence going on in our community is tragic. I remember when the area was mostly a rural community with all the orchards and little farms. It’s sad that when a place gets built up that there is more crime. There is so much crime now that hearing about shootings, robberies, etc. is almost commonplace. Being numb to cime is a true tragedy. I hope that things will get better sometime. There seems to be no fear on the part of criminals of punishment or consequences to what they do. Very sad.
I lay blame on City Council. The plans they have for a “Santana Row” will not materialize if the Monument Area is not rectified. It is sad if the kid is mixed up in gang nonsense, or the victim of mistaken identity/association. What happens if the bullets flying killed innocent people? And in no way am I for penalizing law abiding citizens by having stricter laws. We need a stricter gang enforcement and possibly some type of outreach. Are parents keeping tabs on their kids and actually parenting? Maybe to teach them the gang lifestyle ultimately will put you 6ft. Under or living in a “bathroom with bars”with a rapist. I would like to see some type of press clearly stating that gangs are the issue and not race. It seems to be the easiest played card, and the town would benefit from a clear mission statement. The police would be able to do their jobs easier and not fear being fired. I have had experience in this issue, as CPD will cater to illegal activity and actually pick on the person who wants a change for the better because it is the path of least resistance/job security for the responding officers.
And may this young man rest in peace. I hope whoever did this will be caught soon and punished for this disgusting act.

One of the things is NOT to move the body until all forensic evidence is gathered as it is evident that this young man was targeted. This kid and another man known as Tomas had been roaming this side of concord for the total of two days harassing people they thought were southerners and thanks to his friend (Tomas) he got murdered.
