Small hail pelted parts of the Bay Area this morning and a significant weather advisory was issued for Contra Costa, San Francisco and Alameda counties.
Short bursts of heavy showers are expected today throughout the region, with a high likelihood of thunderstorms, National Weather Service forecaster Bob Benjamin said.
He said the intermittent downpours are likely to be accompanied by hail and gusty winds.
The storm is coming in from the west and blowing in toward the east, bringing with it cooler temperatures.
The off-and-on rain pattern will continue all day and “grow a little more ominous this afternoon and early evening,” Benjamin said.
The rain is expected to taper off by tonight before a weaker storm returns Thursday night and blows into Friday, he said.
By the weekend, conditions are expected to dry and warm up, he said.
