Contra Costa County’s Board of Supervisors has endorsed the selection of Jessica Hudson to serve as the County’s Librarian. Hudson, who currently serves as Nevada County’s Librarian, also held that post in Tehama County, and brings 13 years of experience in the industry.
County Administrator David Twa selected Hudson after a nationwide recruitment, which resulted in more than two dozen candidates. Twa said she will bring the energy and technology-focus needed to drive the Contra Costa Library to even greater achievements. “Our library system consistently wins awards for innovative practices and bold efforts to bring library services to the public in new ways,” Twa stated. “Jessica Hudson will continue our progression into a modern library that values eBooks, quality programs and customer service as much as the hard cover book on the shelf.”
A love of books turned into a love of libraries, which became a lifelong career for Hudson. “My entire job history has been in libraries, from my first job, at age 15, shelving books and helping patrons in the Solano County Library system,” Hudson noted. She worked her way up the ranks, holding a variety of jobs at libraries in Solano, Placer, Tehama and Nevada Counties. “I did a great deal of research before accepting this position, and am excited to begin working with such a progressive library system. I had the opportunity to do some ‘secret shopping,’ stopping by a number of Contra Costa community libraries, and was impressed with the customer service and the program offerings for the public.”
Hudson, a Solano County native, received a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from Sacramento State University, and her Master’s Degree in Library Science from San Jose State University.
The Board of Supervisors approved her appointment on Tuesday, March 25, 2014. She will begin her position on April 14, 2014.
