Did anybody see the unidentified lights in the sky over N. Concord on Friday night just before 9pm?

There were several of them, check out the pictures shown above.

Thanks to Mac for sending the pics!

My people had come for me, but I’ve grown too fond of Clay cord to want to leave. Alpha Centaurians for earth!

nytemuvr March 15, 2014 at 12:08 AM

No answers in 3 hours, the aliens must have erased their memories up there.

StarshipEnterprise March 15, 2014 at 12:12 AM

busted knuckle March 15, 2014 at 12:49 AM

colleen kleven March 15, 2014 at 12:56 AM

That was for my boyfriend’s.cousins 16th birthday. They’re Chinese lanterns. There are 15 up there, there were 16 but one got stuck in a tree. No the tree did not.catch.on fire, the lantern burnt out on it’s own after about 5 minutes.

Contact CCCFD, and discuss your involvement with this situation. March 16, 2014 at 1:20 PM

This might allow you to avoid a Felony Arrest.

Fox Mulder March 15, 2014 at 1:04 AM

Were the lights suspended or moving? Were there any sounds that could identify them? From the photos, they look to be moving. Thats settling. Maybe the aliens are headed for a red state where their people are waiting with foil hats!

Rebel March 15, 2014 at 1:06 AM

You weren’t supposed to see my fleet of drones. That was supposed to be secret.

Boybers March 15, 2014 at 1:13 AM

They look like those flying lanterns like from the movie Hangover 2 or the movie Tangled.

WTF? March 15, 2014 at 1:16 AM

I saw these at 2300 on my way to work in Alamo, literally thinking WTF are these. Coming from Pittsburg I saw an alignment of planets I believe, but to see a cluster so close I was like no something fishy is up.

mike March 15, 2014 at 2:02 AM

so you saw them in Alamo? I saw them when I was on port Chicago in north concord at around 8:45 pm then all but 1 vanish finally the last one flew up at a very high altitude the just vanish!

Dr. Jellyfinger® March 15, 2014 at 1:24 AM

That’s exactly the kind of disinformation the government wants you to believe.

ANDREW MERCER March 15, 2014 at 2:06 PM

mike March 15, 2014 at 1:57 AM

Chinese Lanterns.....with burning candles March 15, 2014 at 7:17 AM

so if they land in a dry field…. we have a grass fire… burn….pets die….MORONS

Ladygirl March 15, 2014 at 7:41 AM

I’d prefer the UFO explanation, those lanterns are terrible for the environment and actually pretty dangerous. The selfish stupidity of people…

Anonymous March 15, 2014 at 8:12 AM

If anyone is turning loose anything with fire attracted to it in Calfornia it’s a felony. We have enough fire sources without adding to them.

How do Chinese lanterns work? March 15, 2014 at 8:16 AM

I have heard this explanation of Chinese Lanterns before when strange lights have appeared in the sky. So how do these lanterns work? What makes the light, an actual fire from a candle? I can’t see that being legal or FAA approved in the least! And what makes them remain suspended in one area as opposed to flying off like a helium balloon? Questionable.

If it is Chinese lanterns, why? What is the purpose. Just a new fad?

Shasta Daisy March 15, 2014 at 8:29 AM

I was stargazing at 9:15.
Guess I missed the show.

Chinese Lanterns should be banned March 15, 2014 at 8:35 AM

So here is an example of Chinese lanterns available for purchase:

Interestingly enough, the very last paragraph in the description section of this item for sale tells the user they shouldn’t use these if the wind is more than 5mph (who is going to check that the night of their party?), do not use within 5 miles of an airport (ummmm hello, Buchanan?), do not release near trees (where in claycord are there not trees?), have water nearby ( to put out a fire after it floats away and out of your reach?) and other precautions that I’m sure partygoers ignore. How can these be legal to set free in the sky with an actual burning candle? We can’t even set off safe and sane fireworks in this county!! Time for Bonilla and Desaulnier to propose legislation banning these lanterns. They are a disaster waiting to happen!

Shelly March 15, 2014 at 5:20 PM

Oh yeah, THAT really needs to be illegal if it isn’t allready.

chris smith March 15, 2014 at 8:41 AM

Claycord again posting Bull**** as always… Whoever runs this site is an a** and defames peoples names without correct info. Chicken s*** BRIAN GRIFFEN….

La - Uh March 15, 2014 at 12:29 PM

Beverly March 15, 2014 at 9:12 AM

@ Fox Mulder— I am missing time, or I was asleep. The dogs acted strange last night, and this morning. Or they were hungry, I have a stange lump in my shoulder, and it is painful to the touch, or I blew out a tendion…………..Hey cutie, gimme a call

bad idea March 15, 2014 at 9:49 AM

save it for the playa. works great in the desert but a real bad idea here where fire can rain terror on people and property. this isnt burning man.

Lanterns March 15, 2014 at 9:56 AM

Chinese lanterns, how wonderful they are!

Michelle March 15, 2014 at 10:04 AM

Chinese Lanterns, what a novel idea. Has anyone confirmed this? And why ban them?

The Provessor March 15, 2014 at 11:03 AM

That pain in you ass is not from an alien probe. It’s from your head. “And why ban them?”

Because nobody wants fire dropping onto their roof from out of they sky.

Michelle March 15, 2014 at 10:06 AM

Chinese Lanterns, what a novel idea. Has anyone confirmed this? And why ban them? And why judge people who use them.

La - Uh March 15, 2014 at 3:21 PM

Michelle, do you feel comfortable with people flying uncontrollable objects carrying an open flame over your house? Would it bother you if it landed on your house? If your house burned because of this, would you judge the perpetrators?

@chris smith, then get the heck off the page if you don’t like it. You make it sound like you’re forced to read these articles/post.
Your in the minority dude, so deal with it and go somewhere else. We don’t need to read your BS post. Out!

Wife March 15, 2014 at 10:09 AM

I worry about those lights–this is not something we need to see everyday with the aliens and all.

john jackson March 15, 2014 at 11:39 AM

My in laws flew in from mars.
sorry people.

Anon March 15, 2014 at 1:20 PM

Malayasian airlines flight 370? Or those damn aliens are back at it again!!

Ask the Fire District About This March 15, 2014 at 1:57 PM

sounds like a good question for the fire district Mr. Mayor! How do they feel about people releasing flaming candles into the sky whenever they feel? Especially during a dry spell like our drought? Sounds dangerous to me!

John March 15, 2014 at 2:16 PM

How come every time someone launches sky lanterns everyone loses their sh!t and forgets about sky lanterns? I find the whole phenomena odd.

Nokeem March 15, 2014 at 4:02 PM

I got video and photos from Dec 21st at 9:36PM from my backyard in the West-North-West Sky. My objects are shaped just like yours in my photos, but I got video too. I saw red objects, but my photos from my iPhone showed up just like these photos (no coloring). But, my video captured some of them the way I could see them (red) and, of course, appearing disappearing. I thought they were chinese lanterns while watching them and then ruled that out once I saw them appear and disappear, or new ones came, all over my view of the sky. I checked with UFO National (not exact name, but the big famous one) and there was a similar one in Antioch in Nov 2013 and others all over the country and the photos and videos look like yours (and ine)

Red lanterns do exist March 15, 2014 at 10:18 PM

The lanterns are available in just about every color in the rainbow. So it is very likely those were red lanterns.

My Ride is HERE!!!

tckid March 15, 2014 at 6:41 PM

I saw some like this on christmas eve a few years back and I sent in pictures and it got posted on here. eeeerily similar

Tony March 15, 2014 at 8:57 PM

I also saw these lights, They changed into at least three different formations before fading off in the distance. It was about 8:30 pm in the Eastern sky. The lights were orange with a while halo around them. I watched them for about 3 minutes as they changed the formation types. When all had merged into what seemingly was just one light, it began to fade and fade quickly.

Tony March 15, 2014 at 9:01 PM

Forgot to mention. My sighting was from my house in Concord, not far from John Muir Hospital.

George Yamamoto March 15, 2014 at 9:02 PM

They were floating over Antioch. I saw one over my neighborhood. A couple of grass fires occurred during the same time period.. One witness saw something falling from the sky that started a grass fire by Burger King on Lone Tree. Check out the posting on East County Today’s Facebook. I think County Fire will probably be checking into these Chinese Lanterns as the source of the fires.

Richard Harp March 15, 2014 at 9:09 PM

Do you really think that an alien intelligence with the means to travel from another planet would land here? It would be like a national geographic expidition to watch apes. You have to admit though, putting a flying device with an open flame to the wayward winds isn’t very smart.

olive garden March 16, 2014 at 2:02 AM

They may be hungry; we may have been put here as fodder to grow and multiply to feed an alien race; but realized over time they haven’t harvested earth in a while and are planning to do so.

Reality Slap March 15, 2014 at 9:38 PM

The above link is from the California State Fire Marshall’s Office.

Personally, I believe the lanterns should be banned.

Realist March 16, 2014 at 12:56 AM

DUCK March 16, 2014 at 5:00 AM

Pretty damn awesome !!!
Magic mushrooms and this.

Patrick Z. March 16, 2014 at 8:12 AM

I saw these. There were four of us standing around watching. My guess was that they were some kind of flying luminary. If I’m right, that would be very dangerous if they started a fire somewhere.

Chriss March 17, 2014 at 12:09 PM

I didn’t see anything on Friday night but my family and I saw six orange objects last night flying over Martinez hoping it was the lanterns again, but don’t know. Did anyone else see anything last night? It was between 8 and 8:30,

Nokeem March 19, 2014 at 3:10 PM

Well, if anyone sees this, especially you, Tony. I got the direction wrong. It was The Eastern Sky – I wrote West Incorrectly, not that anyone is reading this now, but just for the record.

Mustang Sally March 16, 2014 at 6:12 AM

What stupidity. That $hit should be illegal, and the popo should be knockin’ on the door.

Michelle March 15, 2014 at 12:18 PM

Well, Provessor…I see english is not your strong suit 🙂

Michelle March 15, 2014 at 3:39 PM

Actually, La – Uh, they are quite nice in the evening. If there was a gas leak around the city, then I would be apprehensive. For a spring night, sure why not. And I don’t judge people. 🙂

Connie Dobbs March 15, 2014 at 11:07 PM

Por que no los dos, Matt?

Connie Dobbs March 15, 2014 at 11:54 PM

Bill, ‘white trash’ is a racial slur, but not against whites. ‘Cracker,’ ‘hillbilly’ and ‘redneck’ don’t particularly bother Southerners much, either. You watch too much TV (written and produced by Californians). But you keep plugging away at it; I’m sure you’ll come up with something genuinely offensive eventually.

Connie Dobbs March 15, 2014 at 11:57 PM

Well, I was educated Back East. My GED equals your BA from Cal. Theoretically, I mean. I’m not saying you got in to Cal.

Puddintain March 16, 2014 at 6:47 AM

Matt/Bill/Julie/Michelle/Kid, etc., etc,, etc.; you really could use a better outlet for your time & energy. What could you do? Hmm, well it wouldn’t be writing. Volunteer work? Mickey D’s? That wouldn’t last as nasty is too readily detectable. Friends, social life, job? Obviously not… your lack of talent and good charactor precludes any of that. Well I’m momentarily stumped. There must be something useful you could be doing, yet you spend your life taunting and baiting others, making up names, and trying (patheticly) to blow your own horn on a blog.

Atticus Thraxx March 16, 2014 at 7:43 AM

I may be white, and I may be trash, but my home is nice and is far as I can tell, permanently attached to the ground. I gotta tell ya Bill/Matt/whoever, getting flamed by a half ‘tard…..well it just doesn’t have much sting.
It’s gonna be a beautiful today, I’m gonna go enjoy it. Have a great day everyone!
