The “Water Cooler” is a feature on where we ask you a question or provide a topic, and you talk about it!

The “Water Cooler” will be up Monday-Friday at noon!

Today’s question:

Today is National Pancake Day. Where is your favorite place in Claycord to get pancakes (or any kind of breakfast)?

Talk about it….

1 There's no place like home... March 4, 2014 at 12:08 PM

Never did think that restaurant pancakes compared to plain old homemade…best place to eat them is at home!

2 Incognito March 4, 2014 at 12:12 PM

I agree… there’s no place like home for a good breakfast!

3 Concordres March 4, 2014 at 12:22 PM

Black bear diner has excellent breakfast food, always so hard to decide what to order

4 claycordian March 4, 2014 at 12:24 PM

We like the Hick’ry Pit in Walnut Creek…

5 Broke in Colony Park March 4, 2014 at 12:36 PM

Gangnam Cafe

6 Chunti March 4, 2014 at 12:36 PM

Wife makes the best ones around, esp. the waffles. Gluten free and tasty. May be strange but Delish, waffles as hamburger buns!

7 I agree... March 4, 2014 at 12:36 PM

There’s no place like homemade, breakfast,
lunch, or dinner!

8 Bubbly March 4, 2014 at 12:44 PM

Hubcaps in downtown Walnut Creek.

15 Cat Wrangler March 4, 2014 at 1:07 PM

There is no place like home!

Danville Hotel, Millie’s and Cliff House are tied for distant second. :)

You mean to tell me that Fat Tuesday has been reduced to National Pancake Day?????? :|

17 Anon March 4, 2014 at 1:11 PM

My husband and I like Buttercup Grill on Clayton Rd, and yes we probably do need to get out more, but why? A good breakfast is what we look for and that’s what we get.

18 The Grant March 4, 2014 at 1:12 PM

Homemade crepes with Nutella or meat / cheese

19 Warren Haynes March 4, 2014 at 1:14 PM

Glad to see Gangnam cafe mentioned. Good eats and out of the way on weekends, so not overcrowded.

20 Anon-2-U March 4, 2014 at 1:34 PM

It’s not really National Pancacke Day it’s Fastnacht Day (or Shrove Tuesday). Check Wikipedia…

21 FREELOADER March 4, 2014 at 1:41 PM

today, the best place to get pancakes is iHop because they are free all day long!!!!

22 Ruby Tuesday March 4, 2014 at 1:48 PM

Black Bear Diner in WC. Old fashioned “comfort food” is what they advertise, and they have it down packed. The portions are huge. Grab a box or gain 10 lbs. on the way out, depending on your style.

23 Dumb Guy March 4, 2014 at 1:50 PM

Sounds crazy but…..Denny’s pancakes on Contra Costa are pretty good and cheap.
Min’s on Clayton Rd.- Great Breakfast.
Not in Claycord, but best of all……Ole’s Waffle House, on Park St.
in Alameda.

24 Hollyhock March 4, 2014 at 1:52 PM

Min’s on Clayton Rd. and Original Pancake House in PH.

25 The Mamba March 4, 2014 at 1:52 PM

I can’t remember the last time I ate pancakes.

26 just a concordian March 4, 2014 at 1:53 PM

I would have thought for a sugar crazy region like ClaWaCoMaPle we would have a whole lot more posts… Does that mean that the silent ones are in favor of the sugar tax?

27 cta2 March 4, 2014 at 2:16 PM

giant chef

28 Elwood March 4, 2014 at 2:21 PM

29 Professor March 4, 2014 at 2:35 PM

Diggers Diner has good pancakes.

30 Kitty March 4, 2014 at 2:49 PM

mmmm…olives for breakfast. The soups aren’t half-bad either.

31 Kitty March 4, 2014 at 3:05 PM

I’ve eaten at Diggers-quality is terrible. I prefer Black Bear Diner.

32 B March 4, 2014 at 4:11 PM

Copper Skillet in Martinez! yum

33 Eddie Spaghetti March 4, 2014 at 4:29 PM

34 Veronica March 4, 2014 at 5:26 PM

Kitty, I have to agree with you. Black Bear Diner is a really great place for breakfast; Now the Olive Garden, hmmm–I really like the dinners.

35 RanchgirlCA March 4, 2014 at 5:39 PM

If I want pancakes, I’ll make them myself. My son loves the pancakes at Jacks in Pleasant Hill. They do a great breakfast.

36 Valorie March 4, 2014 at 6:18 PM

I make pancakes at home…I find that is the best.

37 Valorie March 4, 2014 at 6:19 PM

Black Bear Diner is Wonderful…

38 Beacon March 4, 2014 at 6:31 PM

Remember Shimmy’s (sp?) on Pacheco in downtown Concord? I used to love that place until they moved to Vegas to be close to their grandchild.

39 Dorothy March 4, 2014 at 7:12 PM

Home for pancakes fresh out of the pan and piping hot.

40 RunDogRun March 4, 2014 at 7:16 PM

I make them at home, pancakes, waffels, crepes
and the visually impressive German pancake,
one of my favorites. I don’t understand this
fervor over sugary drinks. Sugary drinks make
me a lot happier than anti-depressants and maybe
that’s why the medical professions frowns on
them! I splurge and have one three or four times
a year.

41 DrVonNostren March 4, 2014 at 8:07 PM

Don’t know that it’s technically “Claycord” but Giant Chefburger in P Hill has THE BEST pancakes, hands down. I also love their omlettes and waffles. We’ve been going there for 20 plus years and still love it.

42 EdiBirsan March 4, 2014 at 8:12 PM

The best are the ones made with loving hands for me.

43 Silva March 4, 2014 at 9:32 PM

I can’t imagine going OUT for something as simple to whip up in so many different yummy ways. But I don’t eat stuff like that either. I make them for others and live vicariously through them and the kitchen aromas.

44 h2o March 5, 2014 at 5:56 AM

#1 Giant chef- the best in the county!! #2 Diggers Diner #3 Mins #4 Plaza Cafe

45 mike March 5, 2014 at 10:43 AM

Anns sunshine cafe in pleasant hill on oakpark and patterson is the best in town. Been around forever and you can even get your own personalized mug.

46 PancakeALicious March 5, 2014 at 11:58 AM

The BEST place: Home.
The other BEST place: Sunrise Bistro in WC

47 Sabrina March 5, 2014 at 1:39 PM

What’s up with all the “at home” answers? Everyone likes a home cooked meal, but if you don’t go out to eat you’re either cheap or no fun! Or both.

Any restaurant that will give me a break from cooking, thank you!

48 Boots March 5, 2014 at 2:16 PM

The Bay Leaf in downtown Concord has great pancakes, as well as other delicious breakfast options. Lots of omelette varieties. And their side of fresh fruit is always high quality.

49 FrogVoice March 5, 2014 at 3:24 PM

Yeah black bear is nice if you like sweat in your food – i went there and could not eat due to the server sweating profustely into the plates YUK

50 Antler March 5, 2014 at 3:48 PM

We like waffles more than pancakes, and we strongly prefer 100% pure, thick Canadian or Vermont maple syrup…. or blackberry jam. (I have been known to take my own bottles of syrup and jam along, but it can be funny when people see me putting bottles away in my purse just before we leave!) Buttercup has good pancakes and waffles, but my own favorite breakfast is the Florentine Eggs Benedict at Min’s on Clayton Road!
