A man died on Sunday when a tractor he was driving on rural ranchland in unincorporated Martinez went over an embankment and rolled about 200 feet, a fire captain said.

The man, identified as being in his mid 50s, was found dead after being pinned beneath the tractor, according to Contra Costa County fire Capt. Robert Marshall.

Emergency crews received a report of an overturned farm vehicle shortly after 6:30 p.m. on private property located near Bear Creek Road just south of Alhambra Valley Road, according to Marshall.

Upon arrival, emergency responders found the man pinned beneath a piece a tractor. Paramedics arrived and declared the man deceased, Marshall said.

The incident remains under investigation, according to Marshall.
