Concord: Suspect Fires Shots in Apparent Domestic Dispute

February 18, 2014 16:57 pm · 36 comments

Police are investigating a non-injury shooting that occurred during an apparent domestic dispute in Concord this morning, a police sergeant said.

Officers responded to reports of shots fired in the 1500 block of Ellis Street around 7:40 a.m., Sgt. Robert Brady said.

Police learned that a male suspect had shot at a female during what appeared to be a domestic dispute, Brady said.

No injuries were reported, and no arrests had been made in the case as of this afternoon.

A CCW advocate no doubt.

Just another day in the neighborHOOD

Note to female– he gots a gat– don’t piss him off

This is the MAIN reason I’m against gun ownership. It’s more likely to be used in a domestic dispute, and most couples have kids.

Oh, happy day.

I’m glad no one was injured. Very unlikely when shots are fired.

Dorothy February 18, 2014 at 4:13 PM

If someone owns a gun they should be expected to use it. Since no one was hurt (this time) it should be no big deal if it is used. Since no one was arrested it really was not worth mentioning. At least, not until the guy actually hits someone.

WC February 18, 2014 at 4:25 PM

#3, kitchen knives are used in domestic disputes also. Should we ban kitchen knives? Maybe create a law that the knife must be cabled to the wall so you can’t move it away from the cutting surface. When does it end, you can’t legislate stupidity out of these people.

Can't live with 'em February 18, 2014 at 4:27 PM

Can’t take a pot shot at ’em, geez Lueez!

B February 18, 2014 at 4:30 PM

Um, the shots were fired at 11:30pm last night. I know, because I live on Ellis St and heard them go off. There were 5. 1 went off, ten seconds later another 4 shots. Why did the police respond 8 hours later?

Clayton Valley Grad February 18, 2014 at 4:46 PM

WC, your analogy doesn’t make any sense. Kitchen knives are made for cooking, and guns are designed to SHOOT AND KILL.

I’m in favor of knives for cooking purposes, and also in favor of a woman grabbing one to protect herself against abuse, which happens.

I’m not in favor of gun ownership, but I respect the rights of others to carry. I stated that same opinion on another thread.

I feel guns belong in the hands of law enforcement and the military. It’s a widely held opinion.

If you want a gun, go buy several tonight.

I don’t think people that cannot control their impulses should be near a gun. If you think you might shoot someone in anger, don’t get one and stay away. Why even own one if you are like that. Why don’t you get drunk and drive too while you’re at it.

Peg: “Did you miss me?”

Al: “With every shot thus far”

dk February 18, 2014 at 5:11 PM

@Clayton Valley Grad

Your stupid

carebear February 18, 2014 at 5:13 PM

the shooting was at laguna and Ellis. A bfa was the victim and the suspect was a bma. A car parked in the parking lot was hit. The shooting happened in the parking lot of the apartment complex on the corner.

@Dorothy February 18, 2014 at 5:17 PM

>> Since no one was hurt (this time) it should be no big deal if it is used.

So you wouldn’t think it was a big deal if I took a few shots at you but missed? Give me a break; you always say the dumbest things.

funny man February 18, 2014 at 5:18 PM

given the amount of undocumented democrats in the area there, i thinks and unregistered gun or unlawful discharge is the least of the crimes here
the release doesnt say if the gun or owner were legal.. so let the random speculations begin!
anyone else wonder why no arrests were made? did anyone else see the video of CHP and OPD tuck tail instead of dispersing a roudy crowd?
Is this what the lower-income part of concord will be like? no-entry zones for police and paramedics fearing for their own lifes?

mutts February 18, 2014 at 5:31 PM

The police are investigating, idiots. Did u think they just wandered by? Of course they were called.

big hairy knuckle dragger February 18, 2014 at 5:37 PM

@Clayton Valley Grad. Not looking for an argument, but as a pro-gun type I’ve always felt that women especially should have the right to protect themselves with firearms. Nature has rigged the game badly against them. A gun can be a great equalizer against a male aggressor, of which there are many, and always will be.

big hairy knuckle dragger February 18, 2014 at 5:41 PM

@13 dk. I like Clayton Valley Grad’s spelling, grammar, and syntax.

Anonymous February 18, 2014 at 5:50 PM

Well I guess a woman can defend herself from two guys with a knife but if she wants to survive a gun would be much better

Dave February 18, 2014 at 6:08 PM

@dk, #13

That would be you’re, not your. I think you’re the stupid one.

As #19 pointed out to you, Clayton Valley Grad’s spelling and grammar are proper, as well as his/her syntax.

I think Clayton Valley Grad knows the Mayor. I was left with that impression last night anyway. Not that it matters.

I also like Clayton Valley Grad’s attitude towards respecting the rights of others, but personally choosing not to carry.

Dorothy February 18, 2014 at 9:25 PM

@15 – True, when trying to be snarky about something, I do say dumb things. But at least I use the same name so people can snipe at the real me.

Ivan the Trollible February 18, 2014 at 9:56 PM

Grammar Nazi’s unite! Seriously people? The internet is over 20 years old now. That argument is not only old and stale is logically invalid. It’s called an “ad hominem” argument. One of the many fallacies in logic.

Now, I guess my question for #8 is are you really that proud to have graduated high school? I mean really? “Clayton Valley Graduate” What is that?? It’s not like you graduated from somewhere good like De La Salle or Northgate.

Now, to actually address the arguments.

“This is the MAIN reason I’m against gun ownership. It’s more likely to be used in a domestic dispute, and most couples have kids.”

Honestly this is just nonsense. You have no valid basis for this assertion and it’s patently false. According to the Bureau of Justice Statistics and the Office of the Attorney General’s 2010 Firearms report the most common crime committed with the use of a firearm is robbery. Here’s the links

I seriously doubt that your statement that most couples have kids is anywhere near true either. Especially if you factor in the number of single parents. I am too lazy to prove this point wrong with links. Since your first point is invalid the second point is moot anyway.

“WC, your analogy doesn’t make any sense. Kitchen knives are made for cooking, and guns are designed to SHOOT AND KILL”

What bearing does this have on the argument whatsoever? In point of fact, knives were originally created to kill and skin also. This is a horrible attempt to reject the argument presented.

Come back when your name is changed to the college you graduated from. Might want to hold off forming ill founded opinions on a CVCHS education too… just saying.

Steve February 18, 2014 at 9:59 PM

Your snarky needs work; it just comes off as dumb, of which there is plenty of here. And Steve is my real name, so snipe away.

Ivan the Trollible February 18, 2014 at 10:00 PM

Apparently this board doesn’t like certain punctuations because it removed an entire paragraph.
Right under where I say the bit about De La Salle and Northgate the original post said:
See now people, that is also ad hominem. I’m doing it to demonstrate how pointless and stupid it is. Me attacking his name 1. has nothing to do with the argument, 2. makes me look stupid. So remember this next time you want to attack the person instead of their argument.

Don't Be So Judgmental February 18, 2014 at 10:22 PM

@Ivan the Trollible–25

I went to Northgate in the 70’s, and still live in the Northgate section of WC, three blocks from my parents. It’s no big deal. Either is De La Salle.

Secondly, I think Clayton Valley Grad knows the Mayor, and he or she isn’t using their name. I don’t know that, but I was left with that impression last night.

Lastly, you’re very annoying, and your argument doesn’t make any sense. If you’re unaware of domestic disputes involving guns, you must not watch the news or read the paper. If you don’t think most couples have kids, you’re either single and childless, or you don’t have any friends. Or both.

Okay Steve, snipe. Your turn.

Duh February 19, 2014 at 10:41 AM

I’m against guns, and agree with Clayton Valley Grad. I also would like to take a couple of rude obnoxious people who post here and boil them in a pot on my stove, but I won’t use a knife.

Idiocracy February 19, 2014 at 11:30 AM

dk February 19, 2014 at 2:15 PM

Dave you’re stupid as well. Dumb ass !!

anonanonagain February 19, 2014 at 2:19 PM

How many news articles have featured guns being fired for everyday situations like texting, loud music, domestic quarrels, etc? I am sick of the inane arguments that “people kill people, not guns” or “knives kill people too, shall we ban all kitchen knives” or this doozy, ” forks and spoons are the leading cause of obesity, shall we ban silverware too??” Assault rifles, uzis, any gun that has the capacity to fire off rounds and rounds of bullets are not needed in today’s society, unless you are in a war zone. Apparently, with the amount of weapons in the hands of law abiding citizens and brazen thugs who decide to handle their every day affairs by firing a weapon or acquiring one, we DO have a war zone…….

It’s just my opinion. Don’t like it, then look away……

I SMELL A RAT February 20, 2014 at 2:34 PM

No arrests? Physical proof of discharge? Something just ain’t right.
