February 3, 2014 12:00 pm · 72 comments

The “Water Cooler” is a feature on Claycord.com where we ask you a question or provide a topic, and you talk about it!

The “Water Cooler” will be up Monday-Friday at noon!

Today’s question:

Should the day after the Super Bowl be a holiday?

Talk about it….

1 Anon777 February 3, 2014 at 12:01 PM

For the 50th time, NO! Just change the day to a Saturday game.

2 Incognito February 3, 2014 at 12:03 PM

Not hardly

3 HUH?? February 3, 2014 at 12:05 PM

Heck NO!!! It’s only a GAME, people! Why these players make so much money and why “fans” go so beserk (or however you spell it) is way beyond my understanding!!! I’d rather watch little kids laughing and running around playing tag!

4 anon February 3, 2014 at 12:05 PM

No

5 unknown February 3, 2014 at 12:06 PM

Not the way Denver played.

6 The Mamba February 3, 2014 at 12:06 PM

Sure, why not? I didn’t drink and I didn’t host, so I’m kind of indifferent.

7 Killjoy February 3, 2014 at 12:08 PM

Uh, no.

8 it's mE!! (original) February 3, 2014 at 12:16 PM

Im whit the mamba that’s a BIG yes to me don’t get to work and stay at home and sleep, also read claycord 24/7…….But that won’t happen right??!!

9 Here's a plan... February 3, 2014 at 12:16 PM

Since we are up to 52 Presidents, why not give EACH president a day for their birthday.. so we can have EVERY Monday off and get paid for it!!! If there is a Lady President- and I think there will be- then mothers get Mother’s Day off, and you can keep your sports stuff all to yourself…. because I don’t care about sports either.

10 Just me February 3, 2014 at 12:16 PM

+1 for make it a Saturday game.

11 TinFoiler February 3, 2014 at 12:22 PM

NO! But I sure as h3ll would not want to buy any car made on this day.

12 Ted K., Supermax February 3, 2014 at 12:25 PM

Only for blue-collar workers.

13 Dorothy February 3, 2014 at 12:27 PM

Why? Games of any kinds are not good reasons for a day off.

14 How did it ever get to be a SUNDAY game? February 3, 2014 at 12:31 PM

Instead of Saturday. One would think the religious folk would have voted Sunday down.

15 mutts February 3, 2014 at 12:36 PM

Right, we need to pay government workers for doing nothing! Stupid question.

16 MamaP February 3, 2014 at 12:38 PM

Not this year anyway–I had plenty of time to rest and relax.

17 ChampagneKitty February 3, 2014 at 12:40 PM

No, why?

18 Don February 3, 2014 at 12:42 PM

For what reason?

19 Smokey February 3, 2014 at 12:43 PM

Where do you think we live? Europe? Brazil?

20 EAST BAY VELO WORKS February 3, 2014 at 12:43 PM

Super Bowl Sunday is pretty much a holiday in itself. Just don’t drive after

21 Cowellian February 3, 2014 at 12:52 PM

This year, we need a day of mourning.

22 Ummmm February 3, 2014 at 12:54 PM

Yes, but only if my birthday is too.

23 it's mE!! (original) February 3, 2014 at 12:56 PM

Mayor, what’s going to be tomorrows water cooler?

24 NRA #1 fan and member February 3, 2014 at 12:57 PM

No because the NFL is the No Fun League so everyone must report to work or school while I patrol the mean streets of Claycord.

25 Rebel February 3, 2014 at 12:58 PM

National Hangover Day!

26 Orange Crushed February 3, 2014 at 12:58 PM

I’m with unknown # 5.. “Not the way Denver played.”

27 Original G February 3, 2014 at 1:00 PM

OH Hell NO, is SO Much Fun watching the amateurs come to work all hung over, puking their guts out. I even helped them out, got the label maker out with the clear label tape and gave the commodes serial numbers.

28 Idiocracy February 3, 2014 at 1:04 PM

Yes, Why not?

29 Pyrrhus February 3, 2014 at 1:04 PM

Personally, I wish it was, because I’m drained the next day. And I don’t even drink!

30 KJ February 3, 2014 at 1:11 PM

Why? What time did it end?

31 Gah! February 3, 2014 at 1:12 PM

Seriously? It’s a game!

Too bad we can’t muster this amount of energy and interest for educating our children! We pay athletes millions of dollars to play sports and complain that teachers with 30 years of experience and advanced degrees make $70K.

Ridiculous.

32 Without doubt February 3, 2014 at 1:12 PM

no. People need to grow up.

33 Antler February 3, 2014 at 1:16 PM

Huh?

34 N.C.Biker February 3, 2014 at 1:22 PM

The refs beat the Niners and Denver beat themselves.
Worst Superbowl ever! And I guess you gotta be
drunk to like Brewno Marrs.

35 it's mE!! (original) February 3, 2014 at 1:22 PM

Who won The superbowl yesterday???

36 Miss Chatty February 3, 2014 at 1:28 PM

No

37 Concord Guy February 3, 2014 at 1:30 PM

I’m surprised that BART workers don’t have today off…

38 Momo February 3, 2014 at 1:30 PM

Why?

39 Momo February 3, 2014 at 1:32 PM

@15
how does this question have anything to do with government workers? Chip on your shoulder much!

40 Ballsy February 3, 2014 at 1:36 PM

Ok, as long as we get the day off paid after the GS Warriors and SF Giants win it All! :)

41 Peaches February 3, 2014 at 1:38 PM

What’s the Super Bowl?

42 WC Mom February 3, 2014 at 1:39 PM

I’m on the Saturday game bandwagon.

43 Incognito February 3, 2014 at 1:42 PM

#KJ #30
The game ended about 10 minutes after it started…

44 Anon2you February 3, 2014 at 1:49 PM

I think they should move it to Saturday, with Thursday Night football, Saturday games during the Playoffs, Games on Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve etc…Sunday just doesn’t hold the sway it used to, but if it must be on Sunday, then yes I do think it should be a Monday day off. It basically is our National Game now, sorry Baseball…

45 @Peaches February 3, 2014 at 1:56 PM

It’s where grown men fight over some oddly shaped ball. I say just give it to them an call it done. Makes about as much sense as hitting a little ball 40 yards then trying to find it among weeds n trees so they can do it again ? ? ?

46 @ Antler #33 February 3, 2014 at 2:04 PM

Good answer!

47 Barry O February 3, 2014 at 2:08 PM

Every day is a holiday for me. Gotta go now. Don’t want to be late for my tee time.

48 Salaries February 3, 2014 at 2:14 PM

@Gah #31

Would you have teachers signed to performance contacts like the athletes?

49 ClayDen February 3, 2014 at 2:57 PM

No. But how about going back to separate holidays for Presidents Washington and Lincoln? How about adding holidays for Presidents Jefferson (April 13) and Reagan (February 6)? How about eliminating the state holiday for Cesar Chavez?

50 Rob February 3, 2014 at 3:10 PM

Only when the 49’ers or Raiders win the Super Bowl, otherwise, who cares.

51 another day off? February 3, 2014 at 3:14 PM

What is it with the liberal mentality that seems to want or need to have a day off for every time there is some kind of ‘event’? If they had it their way all of the time, they would not work, period!

52 @ClayDen February 3, 2014 at 3:15 PM

Holiday for Regan?? He was one of the worst presidents ever.. You want a holiday for Bush and Obama too?

53 RanchgirlCA February 3, 2014 at 3:26 PM

Nope.

54 Hillary February 3, 2014 at 3:31 PM

What difference does it make?

55 tired of taxes February 3, 2014 at 3:56 PM

The day after Sunday should be a holiday.

56 anon February 3, 2014 at 3:56 PM

Only for government workers.

57 Peanut Gallery February 3, 2014 at 4:24 PM

No….it’s JUST A GAME. People need to put things in perspective. These players don’t do anything special, they get paid an absurd amount of money for playing for 6 seconds, then resting. They only play a portion of the year as well.

58 Erin February 3, 2014 at 4:28 PM

Yeah!! I was still in my food coma when I woke up this morning. HaHa!

59 ClayDen February 3, 2014 at 4:50 PM

@53

At least you could spell the last name of the greatest President of the last 100 years correctly. I’m sorry there isn’t enough stable granite to put him on Mt. Rushmore.

Surely you’ve got to be kidding about Obama: the worst President in our history, taking over the dishonor from Carter. Bush wasn’t a great President, but he’s a giant compared to the current occupant of the White House.

60 Reality Slap February 3, 2014 at 5:45 PM

I’ll vote for Super Bowl Saturday.

61 Atticus Thraxx February 3, 2014 at 5:55 PM

Today!? You mean the whole week!. I feel terrible. Was chillin’ with Phil, and all of a sudden I wake up to this girl screaming. I feel sick. And there’s Phil, buck-assed naked and blue as a Smurf. I kicked at him but he seemed kinda stiff and didn’t bat an eye. I split, took a cab to La Guardia and grabbed a flight home. I should check the news , make sure he’s okay.

Fee Connie Dobbs

62 another day off? February 3, 2014 at 6:25 PM

and I suppose this ‘day off’ would be with pay? Just asking.

63 WC Resident February 3, 2014 at 6:28 PM

Nay

64 Great Idea........ February 3, 2014 at 6:36 PM

let’s see if we can relax our way back into another recession.

65 anon February 3, 2014 at 6:55 PM

Felt like a holiday, bigger than normal crowds at the restraunt and stores I went today.

66 Subterfuge February 3, 2014 at 8:44 PM

No. But every friday should be a holiday.

67 Mimi (original) February 3, 2014 at 10:21 PM

Oh, my! If the SuperBowl were played on Saturday I would always miss it.

68 it's mE!! (original) February 3, 2014 at 10:39 PM

I don’t really care if I get payed on holidays, because I’m not rich but an ok life and been working hard to become the manager of the FBI and I did it I get like $21,000 a week so as far as I know I’m good with my cash I earn around $84,000 in a month.Notice on feb14 I will be giving cash to the people in need so if you are in need read this upcoming whatever for more info I will be giving out around $500,000 in cash

69 Concordanon February 4, 2014 at 7:26 AM

You know what… WHY NOT? I don’t know who chooses holidays but there are already some pretty dumb, useless ones. For example Lincolns birthday… Why do we get to take a day off for a presidents birthday that we weren’t even alive to originally celebrate. I guess it’s a day off so whatever, but it’s just stupid.

70 Concord mom February 4, 2014 at 8:46 AM

Since I don’t watch the games I don’t care what they do, but if they do extend the weekend for the game, they ought to consider moving Halloween trick or treating to Friday or Saturday.

71 Mac February 4, 2014 at 8:50 AM

I agree with switching it to Saturday, instead of making the next day a holiday.
They wait 2 weeks before playing the game.
Moving it up a day would be no problem.
Except for those that work on Saturday`s.
But for the rest of the world it would work. (and not affect Church too)

Super Bowl Saturday…. Yep, i`m in…

72 Tod Gomes February 4, 2014 at 12:57 PM

Even after such a dominating game like that was, I’d have to say no to your original question.
