cpd

Concord Ave. at Market St. has been shut down due to a rollover collision on the Northbound Highway-242 onramp.

Use caution if you’re in the area. We’re hearing the traffic signals are also not working on Concord Ave. at Market St.

Thanks to Jeff for the picture!

UPDATE, 4:27pm: The lights are back on. Only minor injuries were reported.

Craig Cannon, who is on scene, says a Concord Police vehicle was also involved in the collision.

People run the northbound light on Market every day. I’ve seen many car wrecks at this intersection in the exact same spot. Drivers be aware when you are going east or west on Concord ave and are crossing paths with red light runners on their way to Pittsburg and Antioch. Always look to Market before you go on green.

Thanks for the update

No hydrants were harmed in the making of this crash.

When the light changes, I always look BOTH ways before starting across an intersection, even at one-way streets. One never knows; there may be someone going the wrong way on that one-way street. It does happen.

Isn’t that also the intersection where there’s supposed to be no left turn onto 242 from Concord Ave but people do it anyway?

6 @Cowellian January 20, 2014 at 3:57 PM

That was good, Thank You.

Wondering if there some faulty tires being sold lately. too many overturned vehicles happening way too often! OR people in too big a hurry to get nowhere fast.

I heard there was a police car involved. Is it okay?

9 Craig Cannon January 20, 2014 at 4:04 PM

After that was Taken, a CPD Car was Hit, another wreck happened adjacent, in the turn pocket. And not all, but most a East Bound Cars were Running the Intersection. The Power to the Lights is Out. What do we do then? Stop and Look. Not Here. Another Wreck Happened in Front of Me. People are Driving Through the Intersection and Not Stopping. I Videoed it. I’d Say it’s Amusing, but Nothing is Funny When Life and Property are at Risk. If I Were a Cop id Say “Stop, Look, Then Proceed. Not in This Case. Another City Vehicle is Hit Here, but I can’t Say What The White One is For? Glad No Major Injury yet.

It wasnt a roll over. They must have pulled the car out and dropped it on it’s side or something because the car wrecked across the street in the dirt in front of the storage in the dirt. It was a young man and woman.. They were swerving all over the place until they swerved into the power box and freeway sign. The woman got out of the car yelling at the boy so I’m assuming they were fighting in the car and that caused them to crash. I turned around to look at the cross streets to report the accident and they were still yelling at each other haha

@Witness, the rollover collision occurred a few minutes after the collision you witnessed.

Careful Mike T you wrote your instead of you’re to Cowellian. Can put you on his list..

16 Cowellian January 20, 2014 at 5:33 PM

That is also the intersection where nobody knows how to deal with two right turn lanes onto the highway ramp.

Many of today’s most popular vehicles are highly prone to rollover.
Please be careful.

Concord Police vehicle was also involved ……. Hmmm
Was a left turn involved?
Was the “interest of justice” served?

24 MikeT January 20, 2014 at 9:08 PM

so I’m still good Cowellian?

25 BAD intersection January 20, 2014 at 9:26 PM

Accidents-a-plenty there. Also, whenever there’s an intersection with lights out MANY people run right through without paying attention. I’ve seen it too many times no matter what city I’m driving in at the time. This can be deadly, people! It is necessary to be a defensive driver on a regular basis.

I moved to Antioch back in July (no hate please ;) I’m a born n raised claycordian) and look at the east county news. It seems that there is a rollover at least once a day either in Pitt, antioch, BP, byron, oakley, or disco bay. All the time. Be glad that drivers in Concord still have some sense and that this is a rare occasion here.

27 Cowellian January 21, 2014 at 6:34 AM

We’re all good here.

28 gimli January 21, 2014 at 4:44 PM

“I thought it was a fire hydrant,” explained the driver. No criminality is suspected and no charges were filed, though the driver was issued a warning as well as directions to the nearest fire hydrant.
