Look at those adorable animals!

These river otters were spotted over a week ago in Walnut Creek.

Amazing pictures, thanks to Stephanie Lauber for sharing them with all of us!

Those are adorable creatures! I hope they have a good time and everybody let’s them do what they do best!

Silva January 6, 2014 at 9:03 AM

There actually is a Walnut Creek.

Concernicus January 6, 2014 at 9:07 AM

this is otter nonsense.

Nice “selfies”! The current looks strong. Was this at a point near where the flow leaves a culvert?

jtkatec January 6, 2014 at 9:15 AM

Can I put one of those in with my goldfish?

NutCreek Frontier January 6, 2014 at 9:17 AM

There is an otter family in the reservoir by the dog park at Heather Farms, love to see them.

jtkatec January 6, 2014 at 9:17 AM

Selfies??? Why would an otter need a cell phone?

Antler January 6, 2014 at 9:32 AM

’cause ya just never know!

Larkin January 6, 2014 at 9:39 AM

Can someone tell us WHERE in Walnut Creek they were seen? I’d like to walk that area and see if I can spot them. Thanks!

Very cute! Thanks for posting these.

Cool… Martinez has Beavers and Walnut Creek has Otters.

jtkatec January 6, 2014 at 10:16 AM

Hey, didn’t the Mayor post a story a couple years back about an otter which was swimming around in a pool in this area?

If you’re a sole otter, how do other otters find you? Just wondering because there’s two. Did they travel together or did one otter show up, call his buddy/SO on the cell phone so they could find each other?

Someone needs to interview these otters.

jtkatec January 6, 2014 at 10:17 AM

Further, they better not be illegals…. of course, they aren’t. They’re otters and look to be perfectly healthy

Cassandra January 6, 2014 at 10:37 AM

These little guys are way too cute!

The Professor January 6, 2014 at 10:47 AM

I’ve seen these guys swimming in the back pond at Heather Farms a few years ago. The one that is by the last baseball field.

I called the Lindsey Museum and they said its not too uncommon. They use the canal along the Iron Horse Trail as their highway.

Dorothy January 6, 2014 at 10:54 AM

Those are cute.

Earlier this year there were goats in the canal by Sam’s Club in Concord.

Daniel Shays January 6, 2014 at 11:07 AM

Not sure where these were seen but I have seen others in the part of Walnut Creek by Sports Authority on Concord Ave.

Shelly January 6, 2014 at 11:55 AM

Hope they don’t end up in Concord! They’ll get deported like our elk.

How darling! TY for sharing the amazingly cute photos. LOL – Concernicus.

@Vanessa; I wondered if that were more likely what happened. That was such a travesty.

they’re so ugly!

Claycord Cornsnake January 6, 2014 at 3:37 PM

Tastes like fish.

Cool pics January 6, 2014 at 3:44 PM

I wish these nice looking animals would move into my apartment complex instead of the filthy humans than infest it right now 🙁

One question... January 6, 2014 at 3:45 PM

Do they usually eat annoying children who live in apartment complexes? If so, I would love to adopt one to two…

Stephanie L January 6, 2014 at 5:22 PM

Thanks everyone for your comments and happy you enjoyed the photos! The otters were at Heather Farm park a week ago (in the large pond with the fountain). They were really enjoying all the fish. Unfortunately, I haven’t seen them there since then, but I hear they are sometimes seen in the creek nearby and in the other lake area.

Antler January 6, 2014 at 6:10 PM

Stephanie, was it the splatter from the fountain making the waves you caught in your pictures?

Fritzhugh Ludlow January 6, 2014 at 6:49 PM

Saw these Critters in My headlights on Sherman Island Road one night as I was driving back from Eddo’s Harbor. They were on top of the Levee Road when they saw Me, growled, and jumped back in the River.

That Dude January 6, 2014 at 6:57 PM

I saw a bunch kayaking in the Delta in Oakley. I was kinda nervous about them getting curious and flipping my kayak, I have no idea if they would, but the idea of getting in the water in Dec. was unappealing.

This guy January 6, 2014 at 6:57 PM

Cool pics, thanks!

Mimi (original) January 7, 2014 at 10:44 PM

At That Dude: you saw a bunch of otters kayaking? Wow! I had no idea they were that clever!
