CHP, WCPD Pursuit Ends on Ygnacio Valley Rd. in Walnut Creek

December 30, 2013 21:10 pm · 31 comments

A pursuit involving the California Highway Patrol, the Walnut Creek Police and a Jeep ended with an arrest at the Chevron across from Heather Farm Park in Walnut Creek just before 9pm on Monday.

No injuries were reported during the chase, which apparently started after the driver failed to yield when the authorities attempted to pull him over on the freeway.

A helicopter was also assisting patrols with the pursuit.

Authorities do not believe the vehicle was stolen. It comes back registered out of Clayton.

Were any of WC’s squirrels (urban wildlife) endangered, injured, of killed as a result of the pursuit?

I’m surprised they were able to catch a race car like a jeep, they handle so well around turns.

What kind of questions are these ^^

Night squirrels! AKA roof rats.

I owned a Jeep for years and surprised countless sports car drivers and motorcycle riders who tried to lose me on twisty roads. Jeeps handle surprisingly well if setup properly and not lifted too high (yes, mine was lifted).

I was driving on Ygnacio Valley Rd when I saw 8 cop cars, one motorcycle cop and the helicopter. I expected some escaped killer not a Jeep that failed to yield?!

Wow. Over reactive much?

I saw the whole thing unfold in front of me at Chevron. The lead cop car pulls out a spike strip as the Jeep runs over it and pulls into the station and gets cornered to the trash enclosure. Several cop cars surround him and tell him over the microphone to come out with his hands up. This guy was obviously on something because he wasn’t listening or complying. Finally, he gets out of the car and refuses to put his hands up and makes a run but doesn’t get very far as they all converge on him and pin him down. Game over. Exciting night at the Chevron ExtraMile.

@Anna, they didn’t know who this guy was. He could have just killed somebody. No point taking chances.

In all fairness you never know as a cop who it might be driving. Dangerous? Or wanted. Or that they may have someone in the car against their will. If they fail to stop usually they have a reason. If you ran the plate and knew it was stolen, you would probably have your reason. Or if they seemed drunk, or just ran a red and you could make the determination they probably have a suspended license and call off the pursuit. But before people judge this chase, think about it. Did they just commit a crime? Armed robbery? Murder? Kidnapping? You have to either go for it or let them go if you feel the danger of a pursuit is not worth it. Each time it is a judgment call and lots of different factors to consider. So, what if they did have some kid in the car? Or just killed someone or had guns to go kill more people ? Then people would cry ” you had him, and let him go!!!!!” A damned either way thing. Be easy on the police. They have a job to do. Blame the person, or their mental condition, not the cops, if they did not stop…

Nice report “Duke Coffee”, thanks for posting.

I’ve been listening to the Hot Shots/ LA police scanner feed on Broadcastify an am starting to lose all hope for humanity. For those who argue racial profiling take a listen. I fear for my race. There is active ethnic cleansing going on in LA.

Another piece of garbage off the street. Nothing but good here, folks, nothing but good. (Would only have been better if this trash had been crippled or killed in the chase.)

16 @Anna December 31, 2013 at 7:00 AM

Take the test, get a cop job and show us all how you could do it much better.

“Wow. Over reactive much?”

WCPD does not get to much real action– so all hands on deck respond
It is not Oakland or Richmond where they get to do it every night

Don’t you have an “occupy” protest to attend or something? Your lawless beliefs are asinine. Go find yourself.

Spencer: Better only if he was killed. If he was only crippled, he would end up on the taxpayers dime for the rest of his miserable scum life.

first time i have seen them use a chopper like that in WC. but hey that’s our tax dollars at work. i bet they are itching to use their new tank.

25 P_Hill Phil December 31, 2013 at 10:53 AM

I heard this one on the scanner last night. While the pursuit was in progress an officer said the guy in the jeep was shot in the chest with a taser and it had no effect on him. This was during the initial stop. CHP asked for permission to pit him and was denied.

Anna’s an ignorant troll. Like others said, get hired by a PD and see what really happens.

Scratch that……she couldn’t pass the polygraph, the psych, the written test, the oral boards, the medical exam or the 40+ learning domains at the academy…..or last past FTO if she got that far.

Nonetheless, she’s an “expert”.

Enlighten us, Anna ….
