UPDATE: Power Restored to More than 11K After Squirrel Causes Outage

December 27, 2013 11:13 am · 12 comments

A squirrel was the culprit behind a power outage that affected more than 11,000 PG&E customers in Walnut Creek and Lafayette this morning, according to a utility spokeswoman.

Power has been restored to all 11,562 customers who lost service around 7:45 a.m., PG&E spokeswoman Tamar Sarkissian said.

Sarkissian said the outage was apparently caused by a squirrel in Walnut Creek that came into contact with a piece of electrical equipment connected to a bank of transformers.

PG&E sometimes sees similar wildlife-related outages in more rural areas of the state, where the utility has programs in place to prevent animals from disrupting electrical equipment, she said.

Did they save the critter? Squirrel’s good eatin’ and this one’s pre-cooked!

Bbbbzzzzzzzzzzzzt. POOF! Lights out Walnut Creek!

Get a clue! Your “urban wildlife” are actually pests. There’s a reason rodents reproduce with proclivity… they’re low on the food chain.

PG&E so modern that it can’t figure out how to have a system that can coexist with our critters

I hope everyone had a chance to build a fire while their power was out.

What a lazy hawk, who was just sitting around letting CSK Photography take snaps of him, and was too impressed with his own beauty to go catch that darn squirrel.

You’re fired, Mr. Hawk.
