The Water Cooler – Do You Plan to Travel During Christmas?

December 17, 2013 12:00 pm · 39 comments

The “Water Cooler” is a feature on where we ask you a question or provide a topic, and you talk about it!

The “Water Cooler” will be up Monday-Friday in the noon hour.

Do you plan to travel during the Christmas holiday? If so, where are you going, and are you driving, flying or taking a train?

Talk about it….

Yes…from the bed to the Tree to the couch to watch football

2 Anon777 December 17, 2013 at 12:13 PM

Hey #1 stole my answer! We are hosting this year and it will be a nice change to be able to stay home, sleep in, relax, cook, eat, watch football, and not drive anywhere!

3 Matt the Brat December 17, 2013 at 12:20 PM

We’re taking the Aventador to La Jolla… for the uninformed, that’s a vehicle – a fast one at that.

4 Mike "troll" Dame December 17, 2013 at 12:28 PM

yep im leaving today on a bus to Missouri, takes 2 days but you get to see America and all sorts of crazy people

5 Dorothy December 17, 2013 at 12:30 PM

Staying in town on Christmas AND New Year’s.

6 P.H. Neighbor December 17, 2013 at 12:34 PM

We purchased…same as last yr. last min. Southwest cyber sale tickets online. Visiting family in Las Vegas on Christmas Day. Veeery different to fly on that day…but it’s was fine. Anytime spent with family is precious time.
Merry Christmas to all of you, and healthy, happy 2014.

We’re going to my Mom’s this year. That would be from Martinez to Walnut Creek, so it should take about 10 minutes!

8 Lori December 17, 2013 at 12:50 PM

Driving 3 miles to mom’s house.

9 Howard K Mullins III December 17, 2013 at 12:55 PM

Way too many of the stories about my family end with, “and that’s why we’re not allowed to go back there any more”.

So we’ll be staying home this year, again…

10 jtkatec December 17, 2013 at 12:57 PM

Flying, while following Santa’s sleigh. Much like those folks who follow the Feb Ex / USPS delivery trucks…….

11 unknown December 17, 2013 at 1:02 PM

Ho, Ho, Ho, No, No, No.

12 The Mamba December 17, 2013 at 1:20 PM

I will be bending the space time continuum in my tin foil hat.

13 Mr. John December 17, 2013 at 1:25 PM

Just to remind the obvious – if you’ve ever given any indication of where you live on these boards or using you username, don’t answer this question unless you want to advertise to robbers that you’re available to be robbed. It is worse than posting vacation pics on Facebook while on vacation…

14 Googlar December 17, 2013 at 1:56 PM

I’m going to turn off the lights and hide the car and load my AK and wait for someone to rob my house.

15 Cowellian December 17, 2013 at 2:20 PM

got your own reindeer?

16 The Theorist December 17, 2013 at 2:29 PM

Not till they abolish the security theatre known as the TSA, most remembered for strip-searching the handicapped, fondling grandmothers, groping small children, and stealing people’s possessions while they are most vulnerable.
I’ve family back east but I haven’t visited them since 9/11. They come out here on occasion and we’ve had a big family reunion in Arizona (driving distance for me,half way for everyone else). I won’t see my parents very often because of it. But when your own government uses tactics of fear and intimidation, they have become the terrorists.

17 mohairs December 17, 2013 at 2:36 PM

yep. traveling from the bed to the recliner to open presents and watch the fireplace on t.v. and my husband will be going to that same destination! except he has his own recliner =o) hehehe

18 Chevrolet girl December 17, 2013 at 2:40 PM

I going to go and visit Howard K Mullins III, sounds like we are in the same boat!

19 Catlady December 17, 2013 at 2:43 PM

We will be traveling about 3 miles across town. We do our big travel for Thanksgiving so we can relax and enjoy Christmas.

20 jtkatec December 17, 2013 at 2:51 PM

No reindeer, but I think my goldfish can fly

21 Anderson December 17, 2013 at 2:58 PM

Like #16, I won’t submit to TSA goons and their pathetic attempts at “security theater”, so refuse to fly. I used to take train, but TSA is getting involved there too now, and it’s harder to get temp cat care I feel comfortable with for my elderly cats and their health issues so I don’t bother travelling much these days anyway. Perhaps in summertime when I can drive wherever I need to go.

22 Cowellian December 17, 2013 at 2:59 PM

Let us know how that works out.

23 RK December 17, 2013 at 3:05 PM

no travel here, just some yummalacious egg nog and cookies, and yummy food in front of TV watching holiday movies with family :)

24 anonmtz December 17, 2013 at 3:29 PM

We have the fam and friends here for Xmas Eve…..Christmas Day we are supposed to go to Benicia to visit the “other” family. Wheel sea….

25 Lari December 17, 2013 at 3:37 PM

We were planning to, but looking at the finances last week, it just seems like an extravagance at this point. Always nice to relax at home.

26 HomeSweetHome December 17, 2013 at 3:51 PM

Goin a few miles to see mom and dad. I like all the posts of people just staying home and enjoying the holiday at home. It sounds so peaceful and relaxing.

27 Nick December 17, 2013 at 4:03 PM

NOPE, I dont do the whole christmas thing at all. No presents for anybody. Cant stand the holidays!

28 Chevrolet girl December 17, 2013 at 4:55 PM

Sounds like all the people posting should get together! That would be interesting!

29 Ms. Kitty December 17, 2013 at 4:57 PM

Staying at home and enjoying it. I have to get a gas insert for my fireplace since it isn’t working properly.

30 Shasta Daisy December 17, 2013 at 5:46 PM

Cooking a fabulous meal at home for my brother-in-law and his family.
First Christmas without my father-in-law.
He will be happy that his sons are together celebrating Christmas.

One thing that Dad taught his family, FAMILY ALWAYS COMES FIRST!

Those were his last wishes to us, that the family stay close and no fighting.
No worries Dad, you can count on me.

31 Atticus Thraxx December 17, 2013 at 7:57 PM

No, but if we did, I bet this would be fun:

32 Elwood December 17, 2013 at 8:27 PM

From PH to Concord.

Think I’ll take the train. (not BART, I’d rather walk)

It’s the Pleasant Hill, Concord and Amarillo RR.

33 Antler December 17, 2013 at 9:12 PM

My husband and I will be hosting our Far Left Coast branch of our immediate family tomorrow night…..only 9 at table, as our Marine could not get leave. Then on Christmas Day we’ll be in Antioch at younger daughter’s home, where she and her husband traditionally host a potluck gathering for his side of the family….almost always upwards of 20 over there (really nice folks).

New Year’s Eve and Day it’s the two of us…….EARLY bedtime so that we’ll be ready for when the neighbors start setting off fireworks.

Wishing for each of you to give and receive lots of hugs throughout this season of holidays. Thanks to all who “visit” and exchange ideas on Claycord…….hope to meet more of you in person during 2014. And Mayor, thanks for playing Santa and giving us Claycord!

34 KAD December 17, 2013 at 9:38 PM

Drove about 2500 miles to have Christmas with family.

35 December 17, 2013 at 9:41 PM

I hope you have a nice trip, KAD. Have a safe drive home.

36 biggus thinkus December 17, 2013 at 11:39 PM

@Matt the Brat
naturally, i looked up Aventador
uh, you should be there in…3hrs?
lordy be

37 P.H. Neighbor December 18, 2013 at 5:46 AM

@ 34 Antler

Nice to read your post! Reading post like yours gets me into the Christmas spirit a bit more! = )

38 Jojo Potato December 18, 2013 at 7:29 AM

There is a Lamborghini dealer in Walnut Creek, just across the street from the post office. Not sure if they have a Aventador in stock. At $400.000 and up I suppose they don’t keep too many on the shelf. Not sure that Broadway is long enough to get up to speed for a good test drive though. Enjoy!

39 BCuzItzClaycord December 18, 2013 at 9:06 AM

Flying out of Oakland Saturday and heading back to the Pacific Northwest for Christmas……..check on the house, etc. It is the one holiday where all the siblings/cousins (1st, 2nds, 3rds etc) and their families get together so we have rented a hall forever to have Christmas dinner.
Last trip of this nature because in May we head back there for good.
