Christmas is approaching fast and the U.S. Postal Service is expecting its busiest mailing day of the holiday season today.

The postal service expects to process around 545 million pieces of mail each day during the holiday season, for a total of 15 billion pieces of mail between Thanksgiving and New Year’s Eve, officials said.

Today, however, the service expects more than 600 million pieces of mail to be processed nationwide.

The busiest delivery day for mail will be Wednesday, Dec. 18 and the busiest day for packages will be Thursday, Dec. 19, officials said.

I’m still waiting for a package to get to me so I can wrap it and send it on. It seemed like it was taking a very long time to get here, so I checked its tracking information on the UPS sites. One of the locations listed was a train derailment in Illinois.

As I was reading your post, I thought you were going to say it was stolen off your porch, and the next thread was going to read, “Former Claycordian had package stolen off porch.”

I had a UPS package in a train derailment, and took 2-3 days longer to arrive, but I eventually got it. If it’s a Christmas gift for someone, that’s different.
