Holiday Safety Tips & Information from the Concord Police Department

The Concord Police Department (CPD) wants all Clacyordians to be aware every day, but especially during the Holiday season, when thieves target shoppers and take advantage of doorstep deliveries.

Here are a few tips on how to stay safe, courtesy of the CPD:

With the holiday shopping season in full swing, be aware that large shopping center parking lots are targets for thieves. Use common sense precautions when parking and leaving your vehicle:

  • Park in a well-lit public area if possible
  • Lock your doors
  • Don’t leave anything valuable inside your vehicle where it can be seen. It only takes seconds to smash a window.
  • Report suspicious persons loitering in parking lots to the police.

Also, as many packages are being delivered this time of year, be aware that thieves target these deliveries. Here are some suggestions on how to keep your packages safe:

  • Pick them up as soon as possible after delivery. If you know you are receiving a package you might plan on being home when it is delivered.
  • Have your package delivered to a friend or neighbor’s house who you know will be home at delivery time
  • Have your package delivered to your work
  • Request your package be held for pickup at the distribution office

If you see something suspicious, don’t hesitate to call 9-1-1!

If you are using FedX for delivery this holiday season, please know that you can use “Customize Delivery” on their website to schedule your deliveries so you don’t miss the driver.

I hope the morons who claim “don’t blame the victim” when packages are stolen from the porch will at least listen to the CPD. If not, don’t come whining on Claycord when it could’ve been EASILY AVOIDED.

That includes packages IN YOUR CAR AND TRUNK TOO!

Get a Neighborhood Watch going in your neighborhood, that might help cut down the delivery thefts…call CPD offices for more info on Neighborhood Watch…

Also, if you do have to take packages to your car while shopping at Sunvalley, move your car afterwards (told to us at a Neighborhood Watch meeting).

I would take it a step further and not leave anything inside your car, whether valuable or not. The bad guys don’t know if your backpack or gym bag contain a laptop or dirty clothes.

@Rob & Scott
You don’t know what you’re talking about. You couldn’t be further from the truth. Nobody is crying and nobody was counting his chickens – certainly not Jack Weir.

If anyone should be crying, it should be Harris, Flaherty, and Carlson – especially Carlson who betrayed confidential closed session information to the press – rookie mistake.
