A homeless man is in custody for allegedly attempting to kidnap an eight-year-old child on Saturday at 11:30am near the Lafayette Library, according to the Lafayette Police Department.
Police say at about 5PM on Saturday, Lafayette Police Officers along with Deputy Sheriffs from the Contra Costa County Office of the Sheriff J-Team continued to search for the suspect involved in the attempted kidnapping.
They located the suspect at the Lafayette Library, on the 3400 block of Mt. Diablo Boulevard.
The suspect has been identified as Ralph Grohs, a 57-year-old transient who frequents the Lafayette area, police said.
Grohs was arrested without incident and later booked into the main county jail in Martinez on an attempted kidnap charge and probation violation.
The child was taken to safety by his/her parents after the alleged abduction, and did not suffer any major injuries.
