This email, which was sent on Wednesday afternoon, came from a concerned parent of a student at Pine Hollow Middle School in Concord:
I wanted to talk about a concern I have with solicitors at a school. I picked up my daughter from Pine Hollow Middle School this afternoon and she said a man was passing out little books to all the kids. It was a pocket bible, not that it matters what it is to me.
My concern is that there are two men standing outside of a school passing things out to the children. There was a man at each corner of the school. I called the school office and they said that they couldn’t do anything about it because they are not on school property and that it happens all the time.
I also called the Concord PD and they said that they couldn’t do anything because the men were not doing anything illegal.
With all the scary things that happen in the world today I don’t feel comfortable with anyone soliciting to children right outside of school.
Does anyone else feel this way?
Is it going to take somebody grabbing a child and tossing them in their car before the school or police are concerned? That may be taking it overboard, but my concern for my daughter and all her schoolmates are most important.
Who thinks it should be illegal to solicit in front of or near schools?
