It’s tarantula season on Mt. Diablo!

The Tarantulas are back! Males scurry around Mt. Diablo to find a mate before it’s too late. Female tarantulas wait nearby in their tiny burrows. Males wonder around finding mates and usually end up a meal or often times meet their fate when the night becomes too cold and they’re caught outside. A few lucky males will be safe this year when they find a female who isn’t too hungry. Female tarantulas can live 20 years while most males just live a few years.
Also, if you’re driving up the mountain, watch out for these guys on the road. You wouldn’t want to squash one!
