This came from a Claycordian who had a strange encounter with the same unknown woman in two different parking lots twice within the past year.
Here’s the story….
About a year ago, I was approached by a well-dressed middle-aged woman with a strong accent (possibly Russian or Ukrainian) in the Concord Target who complimented me on the dress I was wearing, as I had gone there after work.
I thanked her and she proceeded to ask me where I purchased it, which opened the floodgates, because she then asked me several more questions, i.e., where I worked, if I enjoyed working there, what I did there, my name and if I was happy working there and/or thinking about leaving for something else. I answered (only in generalities, of course) and she explained that she had a local company and was trying to find people to work with/for her, at which point she asked if I wanted to exchange info.
I asked her if she had a card and she replied that she didn’t. I politely declined, thinking it was an odd exchange, and we went on our ways and forgot about her…until today.
The same woman approached me in the Concord Old Navy (we both enjoy a good bargain apparently) and complimented me on my blouse. It’s obvious she didn’t remember speaking to me prior. Anyway, she asked me the same questions verbatim and I answered them (again, generally.) I asked if she had a business card, to which she replied she (still) didn’t.
The first time it happened, I didn’t think much about it, although it was an awkward and vague exchange. This second time; however, it’s unsettling to me and I’m wondering if she’s up to something questionable and suspect or is she genuinely trying to find people to work for her.
Has anybody ever seen or talked to this woman? If so, do you know why she’s doing this?
And for the record, it’s probably a great idea NOT to give her your information.
