The fire on Morgan Territory Road in Clayton is now at 350 acres, and CalFire says it’s only 10% contained.

It’s up on the mountain, about half a mile from Marsh Creek Road, and homes are being threatened, although no homes have burned at this time.

Also, no injuries have been reported.

Thanks to everybody for ALL of your photos, we’re trying to get to all of them, and we VERY MUCH appreciate your support!

You can click on each picture for a much larger view.

Stay tuned for updates!

UPDATE: Embers from the fire have caused other fires on the top of Diablo.

ok, so looks like the fire is getting close to homes near james donlon, if the evening wind picks up as it normally does out here, this could be bad. Does anyone know how we are notified if there will be an evacuation? the sky is all dark and the sun looks dark orange.

People in the area, watch where you step. There will be a lot of displaced rattle snakes escaping the fire.

I ride at Earthquake Arabians and the fire is like right behind my barn! I’m really worried about my horse and everyone else’s horses!

Yay, EBRPD! September 8, 2013 at 4:38 PM

Luckily, EBRPD Fire hasn’t closed any stations or laid off any firefighters. Now that they’re on scene, I think this thing will be under control before too long. Praying for all those who live in the area.

Looks like perhaps embers have blown over the ridge. Fire is on the Clayton side of the ridge, but not big flames, just white smoke so far. I would be worried about radio installations.

Cowellian September 8, 2013 at 4:39 PM

I pray that everyone stays safe.

Public Health Nurse September 8, 2013 at 4:39 PM

Smoke reminds me of the fire up on Mt. Diablo over 50 years ago. Billowed over the top of the mountain watching from the Clayton Valley side. Pray the wind does not start up.

According to CalFire there are mandatory evacuations for Oakhill and Curry Creek area.

Terry September 8, 2013 at 4:48 PM

Cmdtra horses can evac to cccha for up to 60 head. Back up barn available on rose lane if cccha can’t handle all. Email in to ecwc to use heather farms arenas and grounds if all goes up and residents need to evac stock. Waiting for reply. T of cccha

listening to Contra Costa County Fire scanner. when they say they are “firing” on the left flank, does that mean they’re doing a backburn?

Leigh Kirmsse September 8, 2013 at 4:55 PM

I just got a phone call, mandatory evacuations are underway for Curry and Oakhill

Rebecca September 8, 2013 at 5:06 PM

Monitoring the scanner, report is that the fire is beginning to run out of fuel and they feel confident containment is imminent. Perhaps after sundown.
Bringing in dozer’s to cut fire lines.

Terry September 8, 2013 at 5:56 PM

Cmdtra horses are staying put for now except for those who aleady evaced. It appears fire is burning to the south west away from them for now. Cccha is still an option should the need arise. T

Christine September 8, 2013 at 5:57 PM

Is there a need to volunteer to evacuate horses, I have a truck and trailer?

Our dog is being boarded at Camp Four Paws in Clayton on Morgan Territory road. Anyone know where dogs are being relocated. We are out of state and just heard of fire

Terry September 8, 2013 at 6:44 PM

I was just advised that Concord Feed and Fuel in Pleasant Hill will be opening up momentarily to help with any feed needs of displaced stock/pets. I have not confirmed this but was told by Lynette that ran into Sandy who said she had authorized it. Thanks Sandy and Concord Feed!!!!. T

Also CCCHA responders with trailers can meet at CMDTRA see Terry Owens for directions. Beth has 30 plus head that are in need of being moved. Lynette was able to sign in and after being held for a while she made it to Beth’s and is picking up two. Do not respond to Beth’s without checking with her Lynette or Terry O. first. The other Terry, Terry D
