CHILLS: The Namesake of Diablo is Showing His Face on the Mountain

September 8, 2013 23:21 pm · 65 comments

This picture is almost to creepy to post, and if Mt. Diablo didn’t mean “Devil Mountain”, then there might not be a point in posting this, but tell us, who sees the face?

This was taken just a little while ago in Claycord.

Thanks to Tracey for the picture.

Jill September 8, 2013 at 11:25 PM

Leland Gaunt September 8, 2013 at 11:41 PM

I am reminded of lyrics from Creedence Clearwater’s “Run Through The Jungle’

Whoa, thought it was a nightmare, low, it’s all so true
They told me, don’t go walkin’ slow, the devil’s on the loose
Better run through the jungle
Over on the mountain, thunder magic spoke
“Let the people know my wisdom, fill the land with smoke”

anon September 8, 2013 at 11:42 PM

does anyone know if there will be anymore evacuations? I live right by the pavillion and am worried… September 8, 2013 at 11:44 PM

nytemuvr September 8, 2013 at 11:46 PM

It’s out passed the fire in ’77 which was 800 acres.

Dom C. September 8, 2013 at 11:46 PM

Whats the scanner name so i can listen in im worried.

Carol September 8, 2013 at 11:49 PM

We have room at our barn in castro valley if anyone need a place for there horses or livestock email

DayWoo? September 8, 2013 at 11:49 PM

I have heard Russelman Road is now added to evac list. You can see firefighters all over the fire roads on the Clayton side of the mountain. I assume Russelman is the same as Russelman Park? Which is scary as that is getting to close to town . Also there is no fire there now so I’m worried why they are evacuating. Do they think it will come over the ridge and head back down?

Michelle September 8, 2013 at 11:50 PM

Ygnacio looks like it is starting to get bumper to bumper. Did the concert just let out? Also have seen several ambulances go by :(, not a good sight

dave September 8, 2013 at 11:51 PM

I see it. It’s pretty cool. Hope nobody loses their life. Fires are a way for nature to regenerate itself. The mountain will be fine.

EdiBirsan September 8, 2013 at 11:51 PM

Didn’t he run for City Council?

Jesenia Albert September 8, 2013 at 11:57 PM

God is ALIVE!! And He is bigger than the devil and bigger than the fire. All for His glory and purpose, we may not know or understand it, but He does! God bless each and every firefighter, emergency personnel, home, animal, and person out there on Mt. Diablo tonight. Praying for everyone!

Maryam September 8, 2013 at 11:59 PM

How can we get information about the evacuation? September 9, 2013 at 12:00 AM

Just posted an update on the evacuation on

ChampagneKitty September 8, 2013 at 11:59 PM

Freddy Mercury Cougar September 9, 2013 at 12:01 AM

Obama is in California??……..LULZ!!!

@Dom C. September 9, 2013 at 12:10 AM

The scanner is Broadcastify free of charge.

You can listen in to any who have an account all over the states. This is the cccounty area. There is text, but to listen just click the “Launch County Web Player” button and choose a location. It takes a few seconds for the player to actually start. ccc sheriff and fire is the best location.

Thisguy23 September 9, 2013 at 12:12 AM

Is school going to be canceled tomorrow for local high schools?

RudeGal September 9, 2013 at 12:18 AM

Come on. You can clearly see the photoshop details.

Might be biased since I don’t believe in the Devil or Hell.

Bree September 9, 2013 at 12:32 AM

The devil my @ss…… looks like Eddie Munster !

ms. litella September 9, 2013 at 1:21 AM

No! No! No! This is not Satan. I know because i was married to him. This is just one of his cohorts.
dr. j, the tortilla is a popular spot for appearances. i heard Jesus showed up there and his mother once.

Bubba September 9, 2013 at 1:30 AM

Nah this looks like Obama. I can totally see the devil in Obama.

kd September 9, 2013 at 1:34 AM

well if this is scary this might be the time to consider if you’re involved in any kind of spiritistic activities including reading horoscopes, going to fortune tellers, yes people do that, palm readers, interest in the occult or supernatural, paranormal things. Or if you own an item that could somehow be related to activities from spirits. Doing things like what’s in the picture, whether its real or not, freaking people out like that is not one of Satan’s more common tactics. His main tactic is mislead people from the truth about God and convince people that neither of them exist.

Livermore September 9, 2013 at 3:39 AM

Yes, Russelmann Road and Russelmann Park are the same area. BTW – the fire is visible from Livermore.

northsider September 9, 2013 at 5:49 AM

definitely Bob Dylan. I sometimes get a Satan face on my cinnamon roll, though.

brewed September 9, 2013 at 6:27 AM

Lol @ the devil. So you have seen what Satan looks like and can compare his mugshot to this one?! You MUST be a prophet with revealed knowledge of an entity that was made up by brozne -age goatherders in the middle of the desert! Zeus almighty and Horus the Sun god do not approve of this message.

really? September 9, 2013 at 6:29 AM

I see a bunch of people looking for something that isn’t there… I could say it looks like the unibomber and I’d be right.

giosmum September 9, 2013 at 6:46 AM

At, how can we help?

ML September 9, 2013 at 7:24 AM

Imagine Mt. Diablo had been renamed Mt. Reagan. It might have been Ronald or even Nancy glaring at us.

poohbear September 9, 2013 at 8:48 AM

thats totally creepy it looks like the devil

poohbear September 9, 2013 at 8:58 AM

thank you to those who have offered to help those that need it especially to those with horses and live stock

jeff September 9, 2013 at 9:09 AM

It looks like the face of Ronald Reagan

Iggy September 9, 2013 at 9:59 AM

Whoa….I captured the same image but from the eastern part of Mt. Diablo.

Too creepy September 9, 2013 at 10:58 AM

Great picture! We could see the smoke from way up on 101. I was afraid it was mt diablo and it was. I remembered the big fire in 1972-ish. Same year Elvis died and my granny. We were in Hawaii for granny. My friend sent me letters saying the mt looked like the devil. Prayers to all to be safe and that the fire will be out soon. Big thanks and prayers to all the people working to get the fire out and who are assisting others.

dumb guy September 9, 2013 at 11:12 AM

Looks like the devil has Kirk Douglas’s chin,
Howard Stern’s nose, and Don king’s hair.

skippy September 9, 2013 at 11:15 AM

Please don’t feed into the whack jobs who see Jesus in a piece of bread. There’s already a movement to change the name of the mountain (remember they changed the name of our hospital). Don’t fan the flames, literally.

I'm The Urban Spaceman September 9, 2013 at 11:46 AM

The Big E died in 1977.

Susan September 9, 2013 at 12:14 PM

My daughter took a picture just like this from up by seenos estate last night. She told me the same thing after she looked at it when we got home.

shelly September 9, 2013 at 12:16 PM

Gosh, it TOTALLY looks like Ronald Reagan! Now that’s scarey.

ML September 9, 2013 at 12:49 PM

kd, I’m big into astronomy. Do you think I should worry?

Dayna September 9, 2013 at 11:33 PM

God bless all the fire fighters…and police officers and those who are helping everyone in this awfull disaster…regardless who sees what in the photo…this is a real life photo…search your soul, and find peace.

Too creepy September 11, 2013 at 11:27 AM

Sorry. Got my facts mixed up between 1972 and 1977. The big fire mentioned above was in 1977 and Elvis died that year as well. We were in Hawaii both years for granny. Once for her death and once for another ceremony for the 5-year anniversary of her passing. The cctimes had another super creepy picture. So glad the fire is almost out now.
