July 22, 2013 · 14 comments

A man found dead in Concord’s Ellis Lake Park on Friday afternoon was identified by the Contra Costa County coroner’s office today as 66-year-old Stephen Harley Tracy.

Concord police responded to the park, located near Clayton Road and Ellis Street, at 4:21 p.m., Lt. Rob Zywicki said.

Tracy, a Concord resident, was found floating face-down in the lake and was removed with the help of the city’s fire department, Zywicki said.

A preliminary investigation indicated that the death may have been accidental, he said.

A deputy coroner said this afternoon that the cause of Tracy’s death remains under investigation.

Anyone with more information about the case is asked to call the Police Department’s investigative division at (925) 671-3030 or the confidential “tip line” at (925) 603-5836.

Ellis Lake is across the street from my apartment. This story is so sad. The park is used by families and many times I see children allowed to climb on the rocks that surround the lake. Hopefully this will make people aware and we can find a way that we can all enjoy it’s beauty in a safe environment. Rest in Peace Mr.Tracy. My prayers are with you and your family.

My heart goes out to Mr. Tracy’s family. I didn’t know him,but i feel horrible that we have lost yet another soul in this world. The water in that lake is disgusting and vile. Police have been pulling bodies out of not just that lake but the one on Laguna street too. Rip Stephen Tracy.

@Chercub, yep it used to be be a great community park. Gangs, drug sales, fighting, not to mention public intoxication . My son and grand sons, found used neediles in that park. With the concord PD right up the street, I think this is sad. Clean it up or close it down!

just close this damn park down. it is a drug zone plain and simple. between the smell of marijuana, the $2 hookers roaming around the park at nightime, gang thugs shooting each other at night, vandalism against local residents in that area it is a warzone.
