Kirker Pass Road near the Clayton Safeway was briefly shut down this afternoon due to a two-vehicle collision.

We’re hearing no major injuries were reported.

No word yet on the cause of the collision.

Thanks to an anonymous Claycordian for the top photo and thanks to Leo for the two pictures on the bottom!

I can’t believe how many serious car accident occur with such frequency there. Too many people getting a jump on gunning it over kirker pass.

I turn right on Concord Blvd (coming from WC) and I am usually in the slow lane going with the flow of traffic — you would not believe how many people pull out of that Safeway parking lot that are NOT going with the flow of traffic…I always anticipate it, but it just “drives” me crazy…….

I swear the heat brings out the worse in people. Just driving around town today and saw people swerving in and out of traffic. ( That person had a disabled license plate. ) Obviously in the brain. No one uses a blinker, and they all drive so fast. So I’m not to surprised over this accident.

Good one. Quite the mess. Its good everyone is o.k.

I’m so glad no one was reported injured. There are way too many bad accidents. Not sure why people can’t think beyond where they are at a moment so that they will make better choices. I always think of how I would feel if I hurt someone. I can’t imagine having to apologize to someone and / or their family for making a bad decision. It only takes a split second to make a bad decision for which one will regret for the rest of one’s life.

The entrance to Kmart off of Ayers is always fun, they want to pull out of there, see you coming, wait and when you are almost in front of them, pull out, to no where to go, because its backed up cars at the light at Clayton Rd…friggin lemmings…not that there is anything wrong with that..! LOL

Add to list another wreck at Cowell and YV Car into poll about 5:50pm

Missimee July 3, 2013 at 7:11 PM

No wreck @ Cowell & Yvonne, but the light is out turning the intersection into a 4way stop. At 6:30 backup was to Yvonne & Oak Grove. Took 35 minutes to get to Cowell. Don’t know why Concord PD didn’t have some sort of traffic control given how heavy traffic on Yvonne is at this time of day.

Missimee July 3, 2013 at 7:13 PM

****darn iPad autocorrect Yvonne should be YV

Stuck in Traffic July 3, 2013 at 7:18 PM

Mayor, why arent you reporting on the backup at eastbound Ygnacio and Cowell due to the broken traffic light? its a nightmare. Could have avoided it if you reported on it!

Native July 3, 2013 at 7:22 PM

Yep, stuck by Boundary Oaks. I blame BART workers.

@missimee July 4, 2013 at 4:11 AM

Where should Concord PD get this magical traffic control device? Are you aware that if they take over traffic control at one intersection where the lights are out, legally they take responsibility for every intersection with the lights out? Are you aware that the public works employees are already off work at that time, so they have to be called out with portable signs, lights, etc? And finally, are you aware that Cal-West took well over 90 minutes just to get to the scene to start the repair of the lighting?

Sit back in your car with the a/c running and relax. Your magic wand apparently didn’t work.

Hey, "Stuck in Traffic" July 4, 2013 at 6:04 AM

I’m sure The Mayor is heartbroken that he wasn’t able to warn you of the traffic backup. If you send him your cell phone number, I’m sure he will be happy to personally call you immediately with any traffic disruptions which may affect you. Hopefully, Mom and Dad were able to console you when you got home.

#40 Or you could just, you know, read the article.

Hey #21......I don't think Missimee was referring to any traffic control "device"..... July 4, 2013 at 8:02 AM

probably wondering why a cop wasn’t in the intersection directing traffic. They used to be trained how to do this safely and effectively. Read the post carefully before issuing your snotty response.

Anon July 4, 2013 at 10:52 AM

Whhhhaaaaaaaa!!!!! Usually the Mayor doesn’t Cover East County – And probably 95% of the People “inconvenienced” were commuters.

This will continue to happen, unless a stop light is placed at or near Olive drive. The speed limit is 45, which means 55+ to all the Pittsburg, Martinez, Antioch, and the rest of east county commuter’s who instead of using Hwy 4, choose to cut thru Walnut Creek. People coming out of Safeway are trying to get across 3 lanes of traffic, to turn left on either Olive or Concord Blvd. Drivers/commuter’s could care less about your safety or anyone else’s, they are focused on getting home, that’s it. It is not possible to get up to 55MPH ( the flow of traffic ) in a 30 foot merge lane. Courtesy must always be used, unfortunately it seems commuter’s from east county lack this courtesy and will total your car ( and theirs ) if you try to merge.

brig July 5, 2013 at 8:45 AM

@mama, looks like a good old Camry to me.
