Concord Police Investigation Underway After Deadly Officer Involved Shooting

May 10, 2013 23:42 pm · 44 comments

We’re getting multiple reports of an Officer involved shooting in Antioch on Friday night, and we’re hearing Concord Police were on scene serving a search warrant when the shooting occurred.

Sources say it happened just before 9pm, and the person who was shot has died.

It is unknown if the person was shot by Concord Police or Antioch Police.

We’ll give you more details when they’re available.

It was a concord police officer involved shooting in the city of Antioch

Damn that’s crazy! Antioch has really gotten bad over the years. My co-worker just got shot by his neighbor out in Oakley a couple weeks ago or so. He got shot 5 times. His neighbor was arrested and so far is only being charged with Assault with a Deadly Weapon. He was released on bail in no time. My co-worker just got out of the hospital a few days ago. He was shot 2 times in the stomach and 3 times in his arm which he can’t even move now. No feeling at all in his arm or hand. We’re thinking it’s going to be at least a year at that until he returns to work.

Channel-7 11-o-clock news had on scene reporting with no further details.

CPD shot him

5 anon May 11, 2013 at 8:20 AM

He was released on bail in no time. –Got to love the system…..
What a joke
Get to a Judge & raise bail so he does not get out

So sad rip. You were a good person didn’t deserve this..

8 Darwin May 11, 2013 at 8:33 AM

Sad situation. My thoughts go out to the Officers involved.

9 DubCbreh May 11, 2013 at 8:56 AM

10 anon May 11, 2013 at 9:16 AM

I heard that CPD SIB (Special Enforcement Bureau) was getting ready to do something last night.

11 anonymous May 11, 2013 at 9:29 AM

Point a gun at a cop and you have just committed suicide

12 Kirkwood May 11, 2013 at 10:43 AM

Just another night shift for any police department. No news there.

Rest In Peace Charles Burns.

I just left the scene, his body is gone but the bloody tarps are still there. Concord police couldnt taser him? I know for a fact they didnt have to kill him. They unloaded over 15 – 20 shots at him. People in the area say that he DID NOT have a firearm on him nor did they see any weapons. They say they took a drug dealer off the streets, well they took somebody son. Well what do you know? Its mothers day. Due to Concord PD’s quick trigger fingers, her son wont be telling her HAPPY MOTHERS DAY.

RIP Charles Anthony. Not sure what happened.. Family is saying he was shot when he turned around and put his hands up in the air. You know how that goes.. just one side of the story. I do know that he was young and had a lot of potential. It’s so important that you are careful about who you raise your children around. You have to know that their environment does play a role in the person they grow up to be. His birthday was tomorrow.. I feel so sad for his family.

16 daniel May 11, 2013 at 1:10 PM

Thank God the police are doing their job. Be safe men and women in blue..

17 ConcordMike May 11, 2013 at 1:19 PM

One down, multitude of more idiots to clean up this area. Imagine walking out your front door, anytime of day or night and not worrying about your personal safety? Fantasy? Fiction? Reality!

18 Anon May 11, 2013 at 1:27 PM

Assuming it wasn’t the cop, then good riddins to rubbish.

19 Thetruth May 11, 2013 at 1:49 PM

i knew the kid he was 22 i think and from what i hear he had no gun

20 ?????? May 11, 2013 at 2:05 PM

@14

Were you there? Did you speak with an investigator? Thirdly, you know “for a fact he didn’t have a gun,” were you with him when this occurred?
Sounds like uninformed people playing Saturday morning quarter back.

21 @The truth... May 11, 2013 at 2:28 PM

“I think” and “from what I hear” are not exactly phrases that normally accompany irrefutable facts.

22 Sinn Feiner May 11, 2013 at 3:15 PM

Good job Concord PD!!! Maybe the Antioch PD needs some outside help to clean up their city.

23 anonymous May 11, 2013 at 3:27 PM

Well lets see now,
One poster says he had no gun, another he had his hands up. Personally the only thing we are missing is someone telling us he was an aspiring rapper, trying real hard to turn his life around.

24 izzyrickndeb May 11, 2013 at 4:41 PM

FIRST OF ALL, IT DOESN’T MATTER WHAT KIND OF A PERSON HE WAS – HE WAS KILLED BY A COP WHO APARENTLY DIDN’T FOLLOW DIRECTIONS OR LEARN ENOUGH IN THE POLICE ACADEMY BEFORE BECOMING A COP AND BEING HANDED A GUN. HOW MANY POLICE INVOLVED KILLINGS HAVE TO HAPPEN TO OUR FRIENDS, FAMILY, AND OUR KIDS BEFORE WE DO SOMETHING TO PUT OUR FOOT DOWN TO REMIND THE POLICE THAT A BADGE IS NOT A LICENSE TO KILL JUST BECAUSE THEY THINK THEY CAN. THE MORE THEY GET AWAY WITH IT THE WORSE ITS GONNA GET. CHARLES BURNS WAS A GOOD KID, WITH A FAMILY AND MANY FRIENDS WHO ALL LOVED HIM. HIS LIFE WAS TAKEN BY A FOOL WHO SHOULD BE HEALD ACCOUNTABLE…. IF NOT BY THE LAW THEN BY GOD.

25 n.w.a May 11, 2013 at 4:50 PM

No gun? Wtf…Remember the classic song from n.w.a? Cmon claycord sing it with me… F tha police … such a real song that people think is so bad. But so true

r.i.p to the youngster

26 Ae May 11, 2013 at 5:02 PM

Regardless of what the situation was someone’s family member is gone and unless you know all the facts you have no right to put your two sense into it. He was a good person maybe just like every young person who has made some wrong choices but not anything that his life shld have been taken away for!!! Yes cops are suppose to do their job but what happens when there’s injustices? You can’t defend that, and just like they are suppose to keep crime off the streets they sometimes create it as well!!! Concord pd shldnt have been in Antioch period!!! A taser wld have been the way to go. Why investigating for that long? Trying to come up with a cover up story of course! Another Oscar Grant case!!!

27 Anon May 11, 2013 at 5:03 PM

How ignorant can you people be? People assume so much and know so little..well did you know him? He was a good kid, not perfect. He may have not been the best role model but all he needed was time to grow up. Who are you guys to judge? My prayers go out to him and his family and happy birthday Charles.

28 izzyrickndeb May 11, 2013 at 5:06 PM

IN RESPONSE TO Ae…. I feel you.

29 malverde May 11, 2013 at 5:10 PM

Sinn feiner, ConcordMike, please don’t just keep thos comments to yourself,
You people didn’t know him or do you even know who he is? He was riding passenger with a friend who decided to run away from the police, he (charles) chose to jump out with his hands up like a normal innocent person when concord PD decided to shoot him 15multiple times like idiots and they even broke a near by neighbor Windows.. so please don’t spea

30 shadowblade May 11, 2013 at 5:31 PM

Why shouldn’t Concord PD be in Antioch? Isn’t Antioch in California?

31 Dog Meat May 11, 2013 at 5:31 PM

malverde, so if what you are saying is true, then his friend should be arrested on murder charges. If he didn’t run then the police would have had no reason to draw their weapons. Charlie’s friend killed him. Hope he can live with that for the rest of his life. What a loser.

32 Ae May 11, 2013 at 5:49 PM

@shadowblade an Antioch cop can’t give u a ticket unless its antioch…need to worry about their city!!! That’s why each city has their own police!!!

33 Anon May 11, 2013 at 5:52 PM

I work at a middle school in Antioch, and let me tell you all this place is one big ghetto. with kids in school wearing ankle monitors. Get out now

34 Ae May 11, 2013 at 5:52 PM

@izzrickndeb these people are the ignorant ppl, we all have made mistakes no one is innocent about that and our lives our priceless I agree with everything you have said as well RIP CHARLES

35 Dennis May 11, 2013 at 5:53 PM

Sounds like his pals aren’t too bright, either. You don’t jump out of a car and move arms/hands fast, when you got cops with guns drawn.
And cops don’t fire one shot, warrning or otherwise.
You have one thing to do, and that is sit still and silent and do each baby step the cops tell you. Just like ‘mother may I’, or ‘Simon Says’, like you learned in kindergarten
Or you can get yourself shot.
Gee, this guy was an adult and didn’t know what everyone else learned in preschool?

36 Julio-Antioch May 11, 2013 at 5:57 PM

I have reached the point if you break the law for any reason you should be shot. Even if it was me and it never would be. It cost $40,000 a year to keep a person in jail at least. That is double my retirement. You do a crime…you get the bullet. End of story.

By the way, Concord PD was serving a warrant on this scum bag.

37 So sad May 11, 2013 at 6:08 PM

This is so sad. I feel so much pain for the family. All of you making bad comments please STOP. This is so hurtful for the family You dont know what they are feeling at this moment. Please have some respect for his mother. May god have you in his arms charles. Im so sorry this happend to you.

38 Common sense May 11, 2013 at 6:12 PM

@Ae
The problem, Mr. Ae is that Antioch’s criminals don’t just stay in Antioch and Concord don’t stay in concord. That is why cops are free and have the power to go any where in the state.

For all you other folks. If there was really a problem with Cops being forced to kill people then society would do something about. Nothing has been done so, looks like society feels, the cops are doing the right thing.

39 Fred May 11, 2013 at 6:14 PM

@shadowblade an Antioch cop can’t give u a ticket unless its antioch…”

100% wrong & yes– cops can go to any city with a warrant and/or do survailance

40 shadowblade May 11, 2013 at 6:24 PM

Ae #32

That is incorrect. An Antioch police officer can give you a ticket anywhere in California. A Concord police officer can give you a ticket anywhere in California.

41 @so sad May 11, 2013 at 6:38 PM

Maybe his parents should have raised him better . He chose a certian lifestyle that almost always ends in death. If not by cops, then by fellow drug dealers.

If the family and friends are grieving, they wouldn’t be on a blog making comments.

42 Common sense May 11, 2013 at 8:38 PM

Surprises no one has mentioned the angelic criminal records of the other family members.

43 Duck May 12, 2013 at 3:04 AM

@ Julio-Antioch,
You need to be in a mental ward !
This is the most detached , pathetic post I have read in my years.

So if you’re kid stole a Snickers bar he or she should be shot ?

So one of you’re precious children gets in a fight on the school yard they should be shot ?

So you’re at a bar and some jag off grabs you’re life partners butt and you get into a altercation with them and the CPD is called in to break it up and you get arrested for protecting you’re loved one, you should be shot ?

So if you ran a red light by mistake and T boned a innocent driver and they where injured…………….you should be shot.

So if you’re wife or significant other crashed their car and had prescription meds or alcohol in their system ,they should be shot.

REALLY !!!!! You need to seek mental help, because you are for sure out of touch with reality !

Lighten up Francis ! Not everything in life is always black or white , did you know there are fifty shades of gray ? LOL !!!!

In view of the adage re: walking a mile in another’s moccasins…

Wouldn’t it be true that only posters who have successfully completed a police academy, completed months of one-on-one training [with a Field Training Officer], have completed their (law enforcement) employer’s probationary term, and/or have been in an officer involved shooting, have the proper place to comment, about the efficacy of police work?
