Stopped for vehicle code violations? Transported to jail?

Warning: Do not drive into Clayton with a broken tail light!

Just don’t drive drunk or if you are suspended. Then you have nothing to worry about if you have a vehicle code violation.

Having a broken tail light is not a violation of the Calif vehicle code, unless it is the only tail light on the vehicle. If you have 2 lights, and one is broken, no violation. The code only requires one tail light, but that one must be operable.

@broken light not a violation
Usually when a tail light is broken out it shines white light to the rear of the vehicle and that is a moving violation — because the light is supposed to be red.

Thanks for the correction. I was thinking only of a non-functioning light, but of course it could also merely be a broken lens, as you pointed out. Thanks.

All but one was from out of town…

Before folks start speaking here about tail lamp laws, know what you’re talking about so you have “some” credibility. Yes, its a challenge for some on this site,
