The top rattler was found dead in a pool off Regency Drive in Clayton, and the one on the bottom was posing in Lime Ridge.

Has anybody else seen any snakes around Claycord lately?

Thanks to Kelly for the top picture and G for the one on the bottom!

Be careful!

UPDATE: If you’re a fan of snakes, you’ll be happy to know the snake in the pool was in fact alive, and was relocated far away from the house.

Snakes….Why did it have to be snakes???????

Enfield303 March 30, 2013 at 12:10 PM

Thank goodness it wasn’t a corn snake.

Claycord Fan March 30, 2013 at 12:22 PM

Yes we had a baby rattler outside on one of our porches last week. That means there are probably more babies and a Mom around here. Have to be real careful out in the open fields and trails now. They are out early.

We didn’t actually see one on Mt. Diablo yesterday, but some hikers just behind us said they saw one that was about three feet long. I’m kinda glad we didn’t see it. They had dogs, which might be why they saw it.

yes - in my yard March 30, 2013 at 12:40 PM

Had 2 non-rattlers in my yard. Pacific ringnecks. But I’m expecting some rattlesnakes anytime now.

chlorine must be hard on them... March 30, 2013 at 12:42 PM

I know they can swim, so it must be that the chlorine in the pools is hard on them.

Has anyone checked their local politicians, Bonilla is one.

Mt. Biker March 30, 2013 at 12:56 PM

Saw one just over three feet with about 7 rattles up in Shell Ridge area yesterday. Looks like it’s going to be a great year for seeing snakes!

Henry Jones Jr. March 30, 2013 at 1:04 PM

Ban them!

Hiker March 30, 2013 at 1:08 PM

I saw one a week and a half ago while hiking in the open space off of Ygnacio Valledy Rd and Cowell Rd. It was about 3 feet long and started rattling me and my mother in law.

We owned a home of Regency Dr with a pool and frequently had dead rattler’s in it. Only time we saw them in our yard.

LOL @ Don’t Call Me Jr! and Henry Jones Jr. Same person?

George March 30, 2013 at 1:14 PM

Put them on a plane!

leave them March 30, 2013 at 1:24 PM

Please don’t kill them, or any snakes for that matter.

anon March 30, 2013 at 1:26 PM

A good rattler is a dead rattler.

Rperk March 30, 2013 at 1:46 PM

My wife posted the pic of the snake in the pool. It was very alive. It was relocated far off a trail on Mt. Diablo.

lg March 30, 2013 at 1:49 PM

What do you do if you get bit, out hiking and far from medical help?

Dorothy March 30, 2013 at 1:49 PM

Yikes! No, thank goodness.

Dirt Runner March 30, 2013 at 1:58 PM

First one of the season was St. Patty’s day on the trail between Howe Homestead Park and Shell Ridge. Nice healthy 3 footer.

David March 30, 2013 at 2:12 PM

Just came back from a walk on Mangini Ranch and came across 3 gopher snakes on the trail.

mb March 30, 2013 at 2:17 PM

Yes! right out in front of my house in the Crossings! Hissed at me, cuz I all most stepped on it….I think it was a gopher snake.

mb March 30, 2013 at 2:18 PM

I forgot to mention… I HATE SNAKES!!!

Concord1963 March 30, 2013 at 3:00 PM

We were up on Mt. Diablo yesterday. Didn’t see nary a one. Sure was beautiful up there -tons of wildflowers! 🙂

Brutalball March 30, 2013 at 3:02 PM

Mmm. Rattleburgers.

Wild Life Biologist March 30, 2013 at 3:05 PM

I hate to share the bad news with all you “rocket scientists” but those are corn snakes they are not rattlers.

anon #15 March 30, 2013 at 3:07 PM

Your yard would be the one with all the rats, then?

Law Dog March 30, 2013 at 3:18 PM

Ewwww… I stay way, way, way away from all snakes. They’re creepy.

Claycord Cornsnake March 30, 2013 at 3:44 PM

Hmmmm, looks like my cousin didn’t pay attention during swim lessons.

Sarah March 30, 2013 at 4:20 PM

Saw a garden snake on limeridge trail on Treat Blvd last Saturday.

@27 March 30, 2013 at 4:37 PM

No I have terriers, we have no rats or cats or squirrels.

MamaP March 30, 2013 at 5:36 PM

I have a 7 foot Brazilian Rainbow Boa…his name is Allen. He can’t help it he’s a snake. We’ve told him he’s a unicorn so it won’t upset him when people call him a snake…..

David March 30, 2013 at 6:26 PM

@Wildlife Biologist

Those are definitely Rattlesnakes, note the wide heads and distinct patterns. Cornsnakes are colubrids, heads look completely different.

CatWoman March 30, 2013 at 6:57 PM

lol Nice one mamap ….I’m sure he’s a handsome unicorn.

Frank C. March 30, 2013 at 7:49 PM

Thanks Mayor.

I always check here know to know when they are out.

I’ll watch where I walk.

RunnerDope March 30, 2013 at 8:04 PM

Stepped 6 inches from a rattler this evening near Pine Canyon; six rattles.

Shasta Daisy March 30, 2013 at 8:15 PM

Saw a baby rattler today….hiking up by the college.
I was hiking, not the baby rattler.
Or, maybe he was too.

It was a perfect day for hiking by all.

Fritzhugh Ludlow March 30, 2013 at 8:39 PM

@ #17 Ig..If You are bitten while hiking the trails it is recomended to locate a stream, apply wet mud to the bite as well as Your face, kneel down on one knee, raise Your right arm into the air and loudly say “Mammy”.

Laura Zah March 30, 2013 at 8:42 PM

David # 33 Are you new here?

Dianne Feinstein March 30, 2013 at 9:01 PM

There is no reason or need for a rattlesnake to have more than 10 rattles!

Atticus Thraxx March 30, 2013 at 10:02 PM

How cool is that? Find a rattlesnake in your pool? Awesome!

Martinezdad March 31, 2013 at 7:28 AM

Found a sharp-tailed snake along Carquinez Scenic Drive

dinkydau March 31, 2013 at 2:54 PM

Dont get confuzed with Gopher snakes and rattlesnakes. Some people do.
Best of all though, when skinned, cut up, dipped in egg wash and flour, rattlesnake tastes just like chicken!!

Two guys are out hiking, one gets bit on his penis by a rattler March 31, 2013 at 2:57 PM

other guy runs into town to get the doctor, who is busy delivering a baby, but says to suck out the venom. Returning to bitten buddy, friend reports: “Doc Says You’re Gonna Die”

funny guy March 31, 2013 at 3:40 PM

NOPE NOPE NOPE!!! kill it with FIRE now!

LoveSnakes April 1, 2013 at 9:00 AM

I like snakes, just don’t cross them. Very similary to many people I work with who are snakes. I prefer reptile snakes to human snakes.
