As long as they don’t land in claycord, Meems doesn’t mind if they fly by overhead….just, No Landing!

4 Rudegal February 15, 2013 at 9:51 PM

I did. I was walking my Dog in Martinez. I was trying to convince myself it was my imagination, as I was watching the YouTube vids from Russia all day.

5 Shasta Daisy February 15, 2013 at 9:54 PM

Darn, I missed it.
I was outside star gazing from 9:15 till about 5 minutes ago.

I didn’t see anything tonight but last night there were these three crazy lights, I’ve never seen anything like it in my life. There were two red ones and one white one. They first formed a line and then slowly began circling. When I walked closer to get a better look, they just disappeared. Did anyone else see it. It wad actually pretty scary.

We were at Best Buy on 680 in Walnut Creek around 8:30ish and saw it in the western sky just as we were walking to the car. Bright green/white ball with a green streaking trail. Small “pop” then it disappeared.

I seen it, I was heading West Bound on Highway 4. Had a feeling it was a meteorite.

9 Michael February 15, 2013 at 10:23 PM

@greatdismal has a vid of it on twitter.

10 CatWoman February 15, 2013 at 10:23 PM

Earth size asteroid headed this way–NASA says it’s not on a collision course with earth.

power of suggestion and too many drugs…. bad combo

12 Lily February 15, 2013 at 11:02 PM

We were at San Miguel Drive, WC at 7:40 pm, we saw it.

13 Michael M February 15, 2013 at 11:12 PM

I saw it I was on treat blvd it’s was a bright ass light tht got dimmer then disappeared

14 RJ McNamara February 15, 2013 at 11:22 PM

@CatWoman … DA14 passed us this morning, and it’s about 45 meters in diameter. That’s a fair bit less than “Earth size”. Last I heard, the next near pass (from that one anyway) will be 30 years from now.

15 CatWoman February 15, 2013 at 11:43 PM

Hmmm..I wonder. Glad it passed safely, this would account for all of the meteorites we’re seeing.

16 Wierd February 15, 2013 at 11:46 PM

We Were in concord by little ceasers and Me an my bf saw a red Meteor lookin thing, well atleast that’s what I think it was, it was moving but it still looked far away like way far away but it was still sort of creepy. Idk if anyone else saw it. It was recently around 1030.

17 Robert February 15, 2013 at 11:50 PM

I seen in pittsburg.apparently it was seen all over the west coast.

18 anon666 February 16, 2013 at 12:04 AM

@ 10

It’s about the size of a 13 story building, not earth size. An Earth size asteroid would be a planet. Do you know something about Planet X?

19 Second witness February 16, 2013 at 1:41 AM

Joshua Norris- I did too. I didn’t see them moving but I saw the two red ones hovering across from each other and then disappearing one after the other while a white one hovered closer to the horizon. Creepy! I always considered myself a skeptic when it comes to UFOs but this was pretty weird.

This is crazy .I popped in to see if there was ant activity about the strange lights last night.
I went to bed at 2 am and I looked out my Northwest facing bedroom window .I was struck by what I thought was a large star twinkling its way out. After watching for 10 minutes ,it seemed to be moving and changing in color. It had a tiny tale .However, it was quite far away .It then began to move slightly to the right , then slightly down , then up again. It definitely showed changing in color.Clear white , turning to red then green or amber.
I am a sober person. And I wondered if it were a drone? I do not know. But it was there .And it is not tonight.
I watched for 40 mniutes. It was astounding.I watched closely to see if it moved with the shifting constellations.Nope.Like I said ……CRAZY!! Namaste

A friend saw the red lights on Thursday night. She thinks they were UFOs …

23 Mr.S February 16, 2013 at 7:24 AM

I woke up this morning with
Lights in my eyes, I soon realized
It was still dark outside
It was a light coming down
from the sky, I don’t know who or
why. Must be those strangers
that come every night , those
saucer shaped lights put people
uptight, leave blue green foot
prints that glow in the dark , I hope they
get home alright .

24 Dr. Jellyfinger February 16, 2013 at 7:33 AM

Yes. I saw one last week that was much more impressive though. Looked like it was going to hit earth near Moraga right before it blinked out. Nobody saw that one?

25 Encyclopedia33 February 16, 2013 at 8:00 AM

I saw it! My sister and I both saw it. It seemed so close. It streaked and looked like it went straight down behind the hill. Thought I was seeing things! I live in Martinez, by Arnold drive.

26 Tinajem February 16, 2013 at 8:15 AM

I saw it on 680 but it was before 8 pm thrilling…

27 WTF February 16, 2013 at 8:33 AM

Maybe the war of the worlds this weekend?

28 RAPID RATE February 16, 2013 at 9:20 AM

Me and my girlfriend saw it as we where driving down willow pass road near sizzler at about 735 pm. It was a bright light it looked like a shooting star but bigger and brighter and it fell for a long time. it was crazy.

29 Puff February 16, 2013 at 9:47 AM

I saw it whiz by after I took a puff of the magic dragon…

30 Parsnip February 16, 2013 at 9:50 AM

@Shasta Daisy — YOU missed it? :-O Aren’t you the board astronomer who gives links to meteor showers, etc., (which, incidentally, are appreciated)?

I missed it too. ChampagneKitty has me hooked on reading.

31 I'm The Urban Spaceman February 16, 2013 at 10:18 AM

How many were there last night?
Reports of sightings all over the place… at 7:30, 7:40, 9:00, 2:00 a.m.?

32 Nay-Nay February 16, 2013 at 10:27 AM

I saw it around 7:30 last night from Clayton – it looked like the moon was falling. It was bright and beautiful and lasted for a long time.

33 CatWoman February 16, 2013 at 10:47 AM

Very nice, Steve! I’m wondering how many more we’ll see. That was a pretty large asteroid.

34 Edith Bunker February 16, 2013 at 11:56 AM

I saw one a few months ago. Thought the moon was falling. went to bed.

35 sillyfilly454 February 16, 2013 at 12:36 PM

Where’s our photog’s? Nobody got any pix? And why all the conflicting times?

36 nytemuvr February 16, 2013 at 1:04 PM

People reported it here up in Sacramento too. Chicken Little might be right the last couple of days.

37 CatWoman February 16, 2013 at 1:30 PM

Yes I saw it–it’s ok; natural part of life on earth. Has nothing on the sun.

38 Dr. Jellyfinger February 17, 2013 at 1:31 AM

CatWoman, I don’t know what it has to do with meteors, but try a little Preparation H & those assteroids oughta clear right up.

39 Chuckie's Wife February 17, 2013 at 9:46 AM

Not Friday night, but last night, around 10 pm. It was beautiful!

40 Starfish February 17, 2013 at 10:26 AM

Oh Dr. Jellyfinger,
How is my favorite proctologist? That kitty is so adventurous–but not like you. I want to give her my recommendation that you have full knowledge of the uses and application of preparation h-as you have stated having been both a prescription writer and a customer.

41 CatWoman February 17, 2013 at 10:31 AM

Well, Dr. Jellyfinger,
Think of an asteroid as a ball of semi-loosely packed mud being thrown, and those “tiny” particles that come off as the meteors. This is what people have been seeing.

42 Starfish February 17, 2013 at 10:44 AM

CatWoman,
You cannot explain anything to Dr. Jellyfinger–he has tunnel vision.

43 Dr. Jellyfinger February 17, 2013 at 5:43 PM

Catfish, Starwoman, sorry about #38. Sober now.

44 Dr. Jellyfinger February 17, 2013 at 7:46 PM

I usually don’t get blitzed like that, but I lost a patient yesterday…. decided to drown all my troubles in a sea of golden bubbles. When you lose one, well that is never easy. He was a good fellow & I will miss him, very much.

45 Tysha Lema February 18, 2013 at 7:04 PM

Around 9:44pm I was driving and saw an Amber colored glow falling and it lasted for about 10 seconds.
