UPDATE: Over 80 Tires Slashed During Overnight Vandalism on Bel-Air Drive

tires tires_1

As we first reported on Sunday morning, over 25 vehicles were vandalised by a criminal on Bel-Air Drive in Concord.

Now, we’re learning more about this nasty incident.

Our friend “Flash” visited the scene of the crime, and tells us what he saw….

I went to the Galindo Creek condos on Bel Air Drive to check out the damage and get a few pictures, and it was bad. I counted over 80 flat tires on dozens of vehicles. Many of the vehicles had all four tires slashed. There is thousands of dollars in damage. I feel so bad for the victims.

Thanks to “Flash” for the pictures and the information!

This is awful, we feel bad for them, too.

Hopefully there was a surveillance camera in the area. If so, the authorities know where to post the pictures… here!

I hope they catch these useless F@#$s and punctures their lungs. Too bad no camaras are around.

You can thank CPD for letting all those bums live down there and up the hill into Newhall park.

Those scumbags gotta go.

The last thing people living rough down by the creek want to do is to bring attention to themselves.

7 Ok February 10, 2013 at 3:08 PM

Thanks Mikey, you solved the crime
and didn’t even have to leave your
house. Genius!

8 Hmmm February 10, 2013 at 3:09 PM

Anyone question the nearest tire repair shop? Maybe business was slow.. lol. Seriously does suck though and I feel for everyone who was victim to this stupid crime spree.. I had all four of my tires slashed about a year ago, cost me over a thousand for the tow and the replacement tires.. not a good experience. :(

9 Newhallian February 10, 2013 at 3:18 PM

i would interview that homeless woman with the cellphone. she’s been living/camping out near the comcast network eyesore building on corner of treat& belair. I wonder if she saw anything!?

Perhaps a reward will get someone to speak.

13 Anon February 10, 2013 at 3:28 PM

Go see @CatWoman, I bet she knows the losers who did this.

14 itsme February 10, 2013 at 3:37 PM

Again listening to scanner in am….@7:00. I heard an officer say they had another 15 cars on Machado. I guess that was about tire slashing too?

15 Joan VanSnark February 10, 2013 at 3:39 PM

To comment number 5: It’s LOSER. Looser means it isn’t tight. Lmao. If you’re going to call somebody a loser, you should learn how to spell it first.
But I do agree that they are LOSERS.

16 jj February 10, 2013 at 3:45 PM

wow!! what a way of life.. i always just wanted to do this to someone that wronged me…

17 Lou February 10, 2013 at 3:46 PM

You know, this is sooo sad for all of the people that own, maintain & have to have insurance & registration on their vehicles. It costs alot to drive a vehicle, let alone wake up this morning & going to have to replace 4 brand new tires. That is big bucks. So who ever did this, I really hope you got your thrill off & that you will be caught & prosecuted to the full extent of the law. Grow the _ _ _ _ up & get a job & a life & mental help. Lou

18 lola February 10, 2013 at 3:46 PM

Usually it’s not the bums or homeless that do this type of damage. There are several suspect groups for this tire slashing, and among them are 2 tall, black or Hispanic guys who live in the mid-block area of Melody, between Marclair and Wharton. One has long dread-locks and walks with a limp.

One of them was arrested a couple weeks ago, along with his tiny, wanna’-be, punk-assed, baby-faced buddy, who always wears a baseball cap turned to the side. He could possibly live in, or near the Bel Air apartments. He used to drive a black Nissan Mirano – license 6AXU874. Haven’t seen the vehicle since his arrest, but he is still out hanging around.

The same tall male who was arrested has been observed throwing a knife against his building and a tree in front of the complex.

There have been more and more groups of young boys hanging out with the above residents on Melody. They have been observed smoking bongs in cars. The kids walk up and down Melody and have been seen hanging out at the apartment complex of Melody and Marclair, where several homeless people are now living.

19 sprayTHENaim February 10, 2013 at 4:03 PM

I dont believe this was teenagers, kids do this but because of the large number of tires slashed, it seems like this was someone who was angry about something that happened to him/her. The victims or owner of the condos should think about someone who was disgruntled on the past. Teenagers don’t go this far just for fun.

20 Always Right February 10, 2013 at 4:04 PM

This has happened at least twice before in the last 10 years. Last time it was also done early Sunday morning. Last time it was similar, with all four tires punctured with a small diameter nail or pick.

The police did nothing then. No forensics, no follow up. Maybe if Everyone files a report , CPD may respond and do some investigation.

21 Kirkwood February 10, 2013 at 4:13 PM

It looks like it probably wasn’t a few kids having fun, albeit twisted fun. That many tires took a fair amount of effort, more likely some wacko that is mad at the world.

Sad for the victims, especially those without insurance coverage. Even those insured may have to jump through hoops to get compensated.

22 A victim February 10, 2013 at 4:17 PM

I don’t know who did this, but someone must have paid a tons of money for someone to do this.

23 @lola February 10, 2013 at 4:31 PM

Is the baby-faced one a white kid or is he black too?

24 Pegasus February 10, 2013 at 4:33 PM

Okay I need a refresher; why is it we can’t remove the hand that does this?
What about the Scarlet Letter tattooed on the forehead, I’d be happy with that as long as it were preceded by caning in the public square.

25 Wondering February 10, 2013 at 4:37 PM

This is what happens when trashy people have nothing better to do! This area is just getting ridiculous!!! When does it stop???

26 Jerk February 10, 2013 at 4:41 PM

huh!? this complex has a gated parking garage.

27 Ancient Mariner February 10, 2013 at 4:41 PM

@ Hmmm No. 8:
Maybe not so far-fetched – a few years ago some kids were arrested for slashing the seats on BART trains. They confessed that they were doing it for money, and the guy who paid them was the owner of the company that had the contract to repair the BART trains’ seats.
On another note, it’s hard to repair sidewall cuts. A nail in the tread can be pulled and the hole can be patched or plugged. A sidewall hole isn’t usually repairable because the flexing of the sidewall will make any repair fail.

29 bigbadbry February 10, 2013 at 5:06 PM

you know its funny I saw a few cars going down Glacier near the apartments this morning same thing, as well as a few weeks back by the fire dept all teh cars down behind that way all had slashed tires to when I was picking up my son this has got to stop, as well as the drycleaners had a busted out window on the corner of Bailey and Clayton Rd

30 old fart February 10, 2013 at 5:15 PM

I saw a car on Glazier with 2 flat tires on the out side (away from curb) this morning when I left Starbucks about 9 am. Guess there were probably more that I missed.

Anyone have advice on how to get this resolved? Anyone work for a Tire store that would be willing to provide a group discount?
I’m not sure how I’m going to get my car to a shop, and I don’t have jacks for all four wheels.

Sounds to me…. you are a concord cop. Always trying to step into any post that is against the CPD. They are not the best police dept. and they do have a lot of corruption going on as well. Stop trying to make them out to be some great force that is always doing their job and on top of the ball…..

43 skippy February 10, 2013 at 6:21 PM

Wow, you mean no one on this site has blamed Obama yet? I’m amazed.

44 Former Galindo Creek Resident February 10, 2013 at 6:27 PM

I used to live in Galindo Creek 5 yrs ago and nothing has changed. The homeowners would tell the HOA over and over again that there needs to be security. Even in the so-called secure garage, cars were getting broken in to. It was regular to call CPD to tell them that a bunch of punks were partying in the parking lot. There were many times that I would go and tell these punks to leave and let them know that CPD has been called.

The HOA never listened and thankfully I was able to sell my condo.

45 lola February 10, 2013 at 6:30 PM

To #23 – the baby-faced guy is white. He wears low-hanging jeans. Another who has been seen in the area is a young, black male; short; silver earrings in both ears, wearing a red/black baseball cap with CHICAGO printed on the side.

Another male seen in the area is a short Hispanic; close-cropped black hair with a distinctive angled cut on the sides; wearing gold chain; white earrings in both ears; driving a white 4 dr Volvo; plate 3KIP967.

All of the other males seen hanging in the area are young, white males.

46 Froggy February 10, 2013 at 6:36 PM

#44 You lived “in” Galindo Creek?

47 @lola February 10, 2013 at 7:15 PM

Thanks, that’s him. I’ve seen him acting suspicious in the Canterbury Village area as well. Seems to think he’s some sort of tough-guy, trying to mean mug folks as he passes through. I’m always hoping he’ll be dumb enough to take a swipe at me.

48 12ga February 10, 2013 at 7:17 PM

tires on glazier were slashed too

49 Former BelAir Apt Resident February 10, 2013 at 7:29 PM

I lived in the BelAir Apts 3 years ago, and while my apartment was nice and neighbors watched out for each other, at times it was downright scary. The final straw was finding a woman (non-resident) tweaking while sitting on the bumper of my car!

To all the victims of the tire slashings, I’m so sorry and hope the culprit/culprits is/are caught quickly.

50 watching them now.. February 10, 2013 at 7:35 PM

Those guys are like 20 feet from me right now, they like to hang out in the apartment parking garage adjacent to mine. It creeps me out now that I’ve read through this….please do not let my tires get slashed tonight.

51 boccegrl February 10, 2013 at 8:04 PM

There is NO deductable when it It vandalism. It falls under
the pl/pd. Should be able to get fully refunded from Insurance

52 lola February 10, 2013 at 8:31 PM

To # 50 – “watching them now” – you should call the PD and report as suspicious circumstances in light of the tire slashings . I saw the white young punk and a couple other young guys sitting on a fence underneath the apartment at Marclair and Melody today. They taunted me as I drove by. They obviously have no fear of anyone or authority. I had an opportunity to observe the young punk when he was being questioned by the cops a few weeks ago, and he had this smug, “no-fear” look on his face, as if to say, “f – - – you cops”.

53 Volvo February 10, 2013 at 9:18 PM

Pretty sure I know where his guy lives. Funny thing life. Things can change real quick.

54 Marclair resident February 10, 2013 at 9:19 PM

Great! I regretfully live on marclair, the area was horrible when I moved here now it has gotten much worse, I have noticed more and more bs going on recently. So worried now for my car ….

55 @lola February 10, 2013 at 9:21 PM

Dang, wish I would have read that earlier. They ran off sometime between the last post and this one. They hang there a lot though, on Marclair so I’m sure ill have the opportunity again tomorrow. For now, fingers crossed our cars are safe.

56 concord99 February 10, 2013 at 9:28 PM

@boccegrl #51

“There is NO deductable when it It vandalism. It falls under
the pl/pd. Should be able to get fully refunded from Insurance”

You sure you have your facts straight? I had my hood vandalized in 1991, and had to pay a deductible under my comprehensive policy.

57 CatWoman February 10, 2013 at 9:30 PM

Bold and young, you can believe they will try this again!

58 Elwood February 10, 2013 at 9:31 PM

“he had this smug, “no-fear” look on his face, as if to say, “f – – – you cops”.

This is what the ACLU, the “civil rights” movement and ambulance chasing attorneys like John Burris have done for our society.

I grew up in Kansas City. The cops there would beat the crap out of you before they took you to the station. There WAS fear of the cops and a much more civil society.

59 jb222 February 10, 2013 at 9:37 PM

i would go to america’s tire if i were some of these people. They’ve helped me out before. They might be able to repair or replace the tire for some people

60 belairium February 10, 2013 at 9:37 PM

If you have comprehensive insurance it will take care of everything. You pay what ever deductible you have set up. However, more than likely the insurance company will take betterment for wear on your tires :(.

61 Low February 10, 2013 at 9:58 PM

Sounds as if this was an awful act of a very ANGRY individual or persons. The amount of strength and persistance needed to pull this off is frightening. And being high on speed would give them added courage. Used needles have been found in the lot next to the creek. God help us.

62 vigilante#1 February 10, 2013 at 10:06 PM

It is young no good punks who did this. I am glad that I don’t live down there. The way I look at it is I have it coming. I was a young punk once and did crap just like that. When, and I say when I come out to find my vehicle vandalized I wont be one bit surprised. They can have the vehicles for all I care. Just stay out of my home. Karma is real and I base many of my actions and thoughts around it.
I’ve seen the pale white kid at Newhall park a few times wearing a black and white checkered jacket. Nothing like standing out in a crowd.
The only way for these kids to learn is to get it from some angry neighbors who have had enough. Vigilantism is very real and there are several of us locally. I fear that the front that we put on amongst ourselves will be tested with fear and anger. I believe in doing good even though I am full of hatred for these bad people.

63 no1bartman February 10, 2013 at 10:19 PM

Any recent police contact with mentally ill homeless in the area and has there been confrontations between management or tenants and mentally ill homeless in the area?

66 Danniegrl February 10, 2013 at 10:47 PM

Yeah i’m one of the victims actually in the pic my car was next to this green car. Its so sad how people have to go that far to make other people suffer.

67 Cracky McGee February 10, 2013 at 10:53 PM

Whoever did this was mentally unstable or PISSED off and retaliating in a big way … Teenagers don’t typically go this far for fun. I heard the manager of CVS @ Treat/Bel Air called the cops on some ghetto teens a while back then found her tires slashed a few days later.

Local “Tire Shop” has been so slow.
They had to drum up new customers.

If you do all 4.
The Tire Shop gets to charge them a Service Call too. (seeing everyone only has one spare)

Really? how are you any better than him? your thought process is very confrontational

76 Horse'n Around February 11, 2013 at 8:27 AM

@ 42 Not a police officer, but married to one. Yes I will stand up and say thank you to any dept. for a job well done. And for you to say ” Stop trying to make them out to be some great force that is always doing their job and on top of the ball…..”
I don’ do that. Every dept. has problems. Just like everyone’s work place has problems. What I get tired of hearing is ” You can thank CPD for letting all those bums live down there and up the hill into Newhall park”. Don’t you think that maybe the police don’t want them there either? Ever been on a ride along? Concord has gotten really busy. There is so much that goes on that people don’t read on Claycord. There are lot’s of LE families that live in Concord. We get discouraged also. We don’t like going shopping and being asked for spare change, or see the homeless drunks, tagging everywhere. But people as a community need to step up and tell the city council members your tired of it. Sorry for the rant. I’ve lived here all my life. And it is sad that Concord isn’t what it was when I was a kid. Most of my friends and family still live here also. All I can say is try to get involved in your community, volunteer, try to help instead of just complain.

77 Anonn February 11, 2013 at 8:45 AM

@Justin post 71:

You live there or are you just throwing out there. If anyone that lives in Galindo Creeks condos and pays a $600 HOA fee is dumb. All condos and townhomes in Concord and Clayton are 200 to 400 a month…

To the one who said insurance will cover without a deductible is about as ignorant as the one who say HOA fees cost $600. First, you would need comprehensive covereage with a deductible rate. I am sure most people have this coverage but is it worth the 20-30 premium increase for filing a claim that will save you 100-200 now? The insurance company will give you depreciated value and not full replacement cost. Renters insurance also will not cover unless you have the correct coverage.

I live in Galindo Creek and we have 2 vehicles and are a single family living in the appropriate sized apartment. My vehicle is parked outside of the secured garage and all 4 tires were punctured. It’s not uncommon for a family of 3 to own more than 1 vehicle. What ever happened to common sense? A lot of the comments regarding this article are hilarious.

78 The Mamba February 11, 2013 at 8:47 AM

I’ve never seen or heard a tire get slashed or punctured, but wouldn’t it take some time to hit that many tires? Sorry for everyone involved, hopefully the person(s) doing it will be caught red handed.

79 B February 11, 2013 at 9:04 AM

@mayor- doesn’t this happen in this area about once a year?

80 KJ February 11, 2013 at 9:05 AM

Justin @71: What planet are you living on? The HOA dues at Galindo Creek are not $600/month; they’re $395.

I read about a condo on Green Street (ubber-rich Pacific Heights) in San Francisco that had HOA dues in the $600/month range — but it was also selling for $800,000.

81 Justin February 11, 2013 at 9:49 AM

Sorry sorry $395.00 a month plus $185.00 in assessment fees wich occur every 5 years for a grand total of $580.00 a month I stand so humbly corrected …… Signed chip on my shoulder

82 Justin February 11, 2013 at 10:25 AM

This same incident happend three years ago on the same date…. Feb 10 happens to be the same date as the suspects birthday he celebrates with a good old drunken tire slashing….. Shame on galindo creek hoa and concord pd for not preventing it….. But hey there’s always next year!

83 KJ February 11, 2013 at 10:37 AM

Justin @81 — What “assessment fee”? There is no such thing. Never has been.

Years ago there was a one-time “special assessment” to pay for repairs to the buildings: Some owners had to get loans to pay that, which may account for your additional $185.

84 Anonn February 11, 2013 at 11:05 AM

@Justin

$185.00 every 5 years you say?

185 / 60 months = $3.08 each month

$395.00 + 3.08 = $398.08 a month.

Your math is a fail.

Although, you are correct that you will pay $580.00. One will only pay this amount 1 time every 5 years not each month. Your last sentence implies that you paid $580.00 a month foryour normal HOA dues.

85 StupidStuff February 11, 2013 at 11:06 AM

I hope these fools are caught and have to pay for all the damage. If they happen to not have the cash, they should have to do many hours of community service and face the people they have done this too. This is just stupid stuff. Wish it would stop.

86 Nutcreek Frontier February 11, 2013 at 11:35 AM

Hope these punks are caught soon, who are vandalizing hard-working people’s vehicles. I also hope they aren’t juveniles so their photos can be posted. This way the whole town can see the faces of those who think it is hilarious to cost working families, a day’s wages, money for tires, etc. Think about this, you probably lost some kid the money for clothes, food and supplies, nice! Hope CPD catches these jerks!

87 justin February 11, 2013 at 11:54 AM

anon and kj your so very right. my original statements did make it sound like a payment of $185.00 every five years. in fact i was one of the unlucky homeowners who had to take out a loan to pay for the over $10,000 assement fee, a loan that was paid off over five years at a rate of $185.00 a month on top of $395.00 a month in hoa fees…. its good to know you two fact checkers are on top of my posts…… you remind me of people who hang out near public restrooms to smell other people’s s***!

88 Teh dude February 11, 2013 at 12:33 PM

Seems like a camera system would be the least their HOA could provide, given their monthly dues vs cost of 80 new tires.

Hate to say it but my guess is some local tire store needs the business.

I can’t imagine anyone slashing that many tires for any motive other than hunger/desperation.

89 Anonn February 11, 2013 at 12:44 PM

@Justin

I now understand why you say the HOA is close to $600.00…You needed to get a loan to pay for a HOA assesment. Your HOA dues did not change from $395.00 respectively. You had to pay off a loan at a rate of $185.00 for 5 years and in your conclusion you lumped these 2 separate payments as the same…Maybe you got off easier than others that had to get the same loan. In todays market $10,000.00 is close to %12-%14 of what these properties are worth. That is unfortunate.

Not fact checking just keeping you honest.

90 doesntmatter February 11, 2013 at 1:02 PM

Really ? The homeless people?? You numbskulls are obviously more brain dead than i had originally suspected. EVERYONE IN THE PD AND ON BEL AIR DR KNOWS WHO THE PERSON IS THATS BEEN FRANKIN OUR COMMUNITY UP AND RETRIBUTION WILL BE RECIEVED PLEASE BELIEVE
#lynchmobbin

91 KJ February 11, 2013 at 1:10 PM

Justin — It was $8,000, not $10,000 (although with interest on a loan, your final cost could have been that much).

$8,000, of course, is a lot of money, but not as much as others have had to deal with: A friend of mine in Seattle just got an assessment at her condo for $26,000. Condos, like houses, need to be maintained to retain their value, but unlike houses, condo owners can’t choose to defer maintenance.

High-resolution cameras are coming. You hear that, tire-puncturing jerk! If you try it again, you’ll be on “Candid Camera” and the next day on Claycord.com!

92 Bob February 11, 2013 at 1:40 PM

Two puncture holes. No slashes. Main suspect is right handed. Look at the angle of the punctures. Not all but most people commit crimes near home or on routes they know. Look at the map and see the direction they walked. A trail is near by. Consider the time it happened. Likely someone who usually stays up all night.
The tires were likely punctured with a hay fork, a lawn aerator tool, a two prong bbq fork, garden auger or fishing spear. Use these clues and focus on anyone with access to these tools.
All tools mentioned have long handles. Keep an eye out for someone with a broom stick looking handle. They might have kept the handle.

I was also a victim to this senseless crime. My husband and I met my Dad and his Girlfriend for some Margaritas at El Tapatio on Clayton Rd. next to Ihop. We were parked next to each other and these jerks went right between our two cars and got my two tires on my passenger side and my dad’s two on his driver side. This incident has cost me $700 for tires as I JUST bought new ones last week. I really hope these people get caught and pay the price. I’m sure it has caused a lot of people a lot of inconvenience, time and money as it has myself and its so unfair! I need that extra $300 dollars that I had to spend for MORE tires! I work hard for my money! I have rent, bills and a family to provide for! Apparently you LOSERS that did this don’t have these priorities and don’t know how it is to have such responsibilities. GET A LIFE and stop ruining it for others! I’m sorry to all my fellow victims, I feel your pain.
