PHOTOS: Stolen Truck Slams Through the Front of T-Mobile in Concord

February 8, 2013 7:51 am · 49 comments

A criminal crashed a stolen truck through the front of the T-Mobile store just before 6am in the Clayton Valley Shopping Center in Concord. The suspect then stole a few phones and took off without the vehicle he or she arrived in.

The suspect hasn’t been captured, according to police.

It is unknown if this case is related to the smash & grab that occurred at Gamestop in December, which is also inside the same shopping center.

Thanks to “Flash” for the great pictures and the information!

Roll up metal doors are what you see in Europe for this this very reason.

anon February 8, 2013 at 8:13 AM

Crystal ranch mob?

LH February 8, 2013 at 8:27 AM

Not like they can use the phones anyway cuz it’ll show that it’s a stollen phone. But what would you expect from someone dumb enough to drive thru a store front….

Concord Grape February 8, 2013 at 8:30 AM

I thought there was a rent-a-cop in that Center. Guess you get what you pay for.

Monty Abballo February 8, 2013 at 8:36 AM

Those ‘European model roll-up metal doors’ will look even better when they’re laced with spontaneous urban art.
Third world country. We’re on our way.

@monty abballo February 8, 2013 at 8:48 AM

so European countries with roll up doors are third world countries now???

someone should inform them, I’m sure they don’t realize!!!

Antler February 8, 2013 at 8:58 AM

Can’t remember the proper name for them…..but what about installing the heavy pipe security posts embedded into the sidewalk near the curb….maybe every 4 feet? (These also would have stopped the vehicles whose drivers accidently put their cars into DRIVE rather than REVERSE….or accelerated rather than braking when pulling into the parking space…… and/or the cars themselves malfunctioned.)

It's 'Meme' is that you Ma? February 8, 2013 at 9:00 AM

“Happy Friday”…Nobody hurt? Insurance in place? Gas prices up?

Mother trucker February 8, 2013 at 9:04 AM

I hate tmobile anyways

Marty the Weasel February 8, 2013 at 9:10 AM

All that just to steal a few phones? With that much effort & risk involved I’d have stolen an ATM machine, jewelery, you know ….. stuff that is really valuable. How stupid can criminals get?

ANON February 8, 2013 at 9:17 AM

Hey, what’s wrong with AT & T, they right next door.

What Security February 8, 2013 at 9:35 AM

I bet the driver was texting….

anonymous here February 8, 2013 at 9:48 AM

Geez, this is ridiculous. Just get a job like the rest of us and start paying for things. Hope they catch them.

vigilante#1 February 8, 2013 at 9:51 AM

Isn’t T-mobile a slightly shorter run back to Roundtree?

LTG February 8, 2013 at 9:52 AM

Tank traps are the answer!

ClaycordNeighbor February 8, 2013 at 10:23 AM

It’s about the Clayton Valley Center, not Roundtree. This is store is just a few doors away in the same center where the kid was murdered at Burger King. CV Center needs to step up to the plate and ensure their patrons’ safety. What is wrong with the management there?

Concord Res February 8, 2013 at 10:24 AM

Wasn’t there a crash at the game store in the same shopping center not long ago? What’s with the crashes and this shopping center?!

@antler February 8, 2013 at 10:51 AM

“bollard/bollards”, if I’m not mistaken.

anon February 8, 2013 at 11:20 AM

Machine guns mounted that will fire when there is mass damage to the windows. Guns solve everything.

concord99 February 8, 2013 at 11:32 AM

@monty abballo #6:

“so European countries with roll up doors are third world countries now???”

no, he meant the US is becoming a third-world country, not the countries of Europe.

concord99 February 8, 2013 at 11:35 AM

This crime makes no sense. Why wouldn’t he just sell the truck. Surely worth more than a few phones.

Also, why do such a high-risk crime for just a few phones, and then walk away, not drive away? He could have been trapped in the car after he drove through. What was this person thinking? Why are a few phones so wanted by him?

Using our heads February 8, 2013 at 11:41 AM

@ Antler, Excellent idea! And inexpensive compared to the damage shown

Dontknow February 8, 2013 at 11:41 AM

@ Concord grape.. Or comment number 4…. That ” rent a cop” is the biggest pot head ever!!!! Saw him getting it from two black guys right outside Fresh and Easy… Oh and he spends a little too much time at the Yogurt shack!!!

Sandy Eggo February 8, 2013 at 11:54 AM

Curious where the truck was stolen from…?

Random but we have a similar truck and on Wednesday morning someone siphoned all of the gas out of it. I was pretty mad but now I’m glad that they only stole the gas and not the truck.

Cap'n Nick February 8, 2013 at 11:54 AM

After some of my experiences buying a new phone, I must say, I kind of get it.

Pucky February 8, 2013 at 11:54 AM

I see the quality of the posters posts have hit an all time low……..

Robert February 8, 2013 at 11:59 AM

Crystal ranch mob? Lmao

“All that just to steal a few phones? With that much effort & risk involved I’d have stolen an ATM machine, jewelery, you know ….. stuff that is really valuable. How stupid can criminals get?”

It’s likely because they’re desperate. It’s hard to think things through when you or your kids are hungry, sick, or cold. I”ve seen it in my home country, and it’s really sad. It makes me feel so thankful that I’ve never had to experience it.

Guns won’t solve the problem completely. The chance of getting a burst of 7,62×39 to the back is still a much more pleasant way to go than to starve.

Melody February 8, 2013 at 12:18 PM

How would the rent-a-cop have stopped this from happening even if he/she was not a pot head or more trained? A real cop wouldn’t have been able to stop it either unless he/she was in the right place at the right time and shot out all 4 tires before it hit the glass, which is a highly unlikely scenario.

Wise ant February 8, 2013 at 12:37 PM

That is why you stay on monument ya smuck … Take uh lap!

Lorelei February 8, 2013 at 1:02 PM

Ha Ha Ha! “Stollen” phones! They taste much better after a few seconds in the microwave and with butter smeared on them!!!

old concord February 8, 2013 at 1:48 PM

T Mobil is an attractive nuisance like med. marijuana. T Mobil needs to be move to a location where it can be seen, heard or smelled. Just kidding =)

I think you “Metro PCS”

Cat Mom February 8, 2013 at 3:20 PM

I agree with Cap’n Nick.

I bought a new phone for hubby, somehow the idiot at ATT managed to completely disable my Son’s phone – and I knew he was screwing it up. He kept clicking and clicking and clickong on our website and asking me things totally unrelated to the purchase.

UGHGHGHGHGHGGH took days to straighten it out.

Cat Mom February 8, 2013 at 3:26 PM

This is related to the Game Stop robbery – just the pictures alone would tell you that.

Personally, I’d rather get into Dickies and grab some ribs.

CatWoman February 8, 2013 at 3:51 PM

This is amazing-there is nothing the police or anyone could do to stop this. Those phones were lying in wait at the store spread out and awaiting the robber. lol..all that for free. Bash, Smash, Grab and Done…lol…I hope they catch this crook.

the Shi ite February 8, 2013 at 4:29 PM

When are you going to put up a link to the Auto Lock Pro that goes on your brake pedal.
99% of car thieves will move on when they see that. Best $30 investment ever.

itsme February 8, 2013 at 4:44 PM

CatWoman….what could the police do to stop it? I happened to be awake @5am this morning and heard the dipatch for the alarm. The cop was there very quickly, obviously not quick enough to catch the jerk but what do you expect them to do… everywhere at all times?

Turd Phone Companies February 8, 2013 at 4:47 PM

If it was the Boost or Metro PCS store I would figure that this type just went in to pay their bill.

I'll Pass February 8, 2013 at 5:04 PM

Yet another vote for that “well” designed maze of narrow roadways, even narrower small parking places. Biggest draw that shopping area had was the drive up mail drop off box, used to shop after dropping off the outgoing mail, now gone.
Go there maybe twice a year now, going there is not worth the hassle.

Piper February 8, 2013 at 5:06 PM

@31 Could you be any more insensitive? #29 has a perfectly valid point about why this could have happened. No, it’s not okay to do anything like this. But if someone is struggling that badly, they will do whatever they need to provide for themselves and their family.

anon February 8, 2013 at 5:24 PM

Nice truck

Nom de Plume February 8, 2013 at 7:06 PM

I hope there are decent security cameras throughout the shopping center. If not, there should be. Large planters in front of the stores would protect them from this type of burglary and beautify it even more. Or simply install the posts. I’ve tried to report problems to the security guard there before to no avail. He doesn’t seem interested.

This is ridiculous. I feel sorry for the person whose truck was stolen. Hope they catch the jerks.

Also, please bring back the drive-through mailbox. About this, I have mixed feelings since those will probably be the next target for thieves. I generally drive to the post office as needed.

TCKid February 8, 2013 at 7:28 PM

@concordgrape how would a rent a cop stop a man from crashing? Better yet, how could ANY cop stop a man from crashing? And I know him personally, you can drug test the homie. Nothin in his system. He’s not a pothead.

Steve Young February 8, 2013 at 7:41 PM

The truck owner needed to stop the truck from being stolen!

Cracky McGee February 9, 2013 at 5:20 AM

So noone in that shopping center chased the punk to alert CPD where he ran off to? We need more alert citizens …

Lorelei February 9, 2013 at 9:30 AM

YES!!! Bring back the drive-up mailboxes, EVERYWHERE!

Low Down February 9, 2013 at 7:52 PM

I could use one of those new phones…….Can i keep my old #?
