City of Concord Looking for Members for its New Downtown Planning Committee

February 5, 2013 8:00 am · 20 comments

The following information is from the City of Concord:

The City of Concord will be accepting applications through Friday, Feb. 15 from persons interested in serving on the newly established Downtown Specific Plan Ad Hoc Steering Committee. Preference will be given to persons residing or working in the downtown target area when selecting the three at-large members.

The role of this advisory committee is to provide broad-based public participation in the development of the Concord Downtown Specific Plan, a community planning effort funded by the Metropolitan Transportation Commission (MTC), that will consider how best to direct the long-term and short-term development and improvement of the downtown area, specifically near the BART station.

In addition to the three at-large members, the committee will also include two City Council members, two Planning Commissioners, one Design Review Board member, one Todos Santos Business Association member and one Greater Concord Chamber of Commerce member. The committee is expected to meet monthly for approximately one year.

Application forms are available on the City’s website at www.cityofconcord.org. Applications may also be obtained from the City Clerk’s office, 1950 Parkside Drive, or requested by calling 925-671-3495.

wow the MTC rears its ugly head …i guess they ran their scam in oakland and SF …now they want to come here. Good luck and do not cry when they do what ever they want besides what you have in mind.

lol talk about an appointed position by an official ( a Todos Santos Business Association member ….who are these people and where is the greater willowpass business associate or the clayton rd one ….you have got to be kiddig me. so what does the chamber of commerce do then …stay out of todos santos business …..bunch of tax payer money going to appointed positions ….and now they bring in the MTC ….hmmmm so next will be a tax increase or a funds problem and a vote to increase funds or they will take from the schools or the elderly …same old story ….and now in our back yard and we all just say …thank you ……

sorry it is early and i am taking up all the posts but ….what is a ad hoc steering commitee and where is this money comeing from and why …..only down town …..because if this is to clean out the bums ….seems like a pet project to me or the council is peeved and wants to hit our wallets

sounds like a lot of chiefs and not enough indians. Really the MTC makes up a rouse to increase the bridge tolls so they can have a new building and now they are spending those road funds on the todos santos bart station as well ….like i said for a long time why is todos santos on someones pet list …..i will tell you why if you cant see it …it is for bleeding the coffers on some spirit pole-ish project that goes over budget becuase not enough bribes went out and or enough polititions dont get paid off. Concord is the new loop hole for funds to be cleaned and polished for the corruptionist to lather in

Whatever they come up with for the area, I sincerely hope it does NOT include any buildings like the (former) Bank of America buildings, which are incredibly boring!

Like they would listen anyway…they’ll take the suggestions toss them aside and do what they want and then be able to say that the board couldn’t come to a decision so they had to make the “tough choices”…smoke and mirrors…it’s why Concord looks like it does with deficits and WC looks like it does with surpluses. We simply have too many people living off what the rest of us contribute and they want to try and build something near BART…let’s see…what would downtown need?…Oh yeah more slums to live off the public teet

Whose job is it to do something about the strong sewage scent on the Salvio St. side of Todos Santos Park? I’d like to patronize the new Italian restaurant and coffee shop but am chased away by the crappy odor. I’d be raising hell if I ran a business in that area.

Dear Concord City Council Members: Don’t you READ Claycord.com…..something tells me that you DO and you can see that nobody in Claycord TRUSTS you to do the right thing. How about listening to the voters for a change, and do something we can be PROUD of?!?! I don’t know how any of you can sleep at night with the state of affairs being what it is in Concord……..

@Stinker
The sewage deposits tend to back up in that area on the way to the waste water treatment plant. This has been an ongoing discussion and your voice will be well heard at the city planning meeting.

Why don’t they clean and plan for willow pass road in the landana area? Talk about a dump. They’ll plan for todos santos but on willow pass there’s an apartment building damaged by fire that just sits. It seems like concord planners make one area look decent then move on but don’t provide maintenance to the areas they already “fixed.” That’s why concord will probably never be really nice like other cities or towns…

Slight correction:
There will be 11 people on the commission:
2 Council
2 Planning
2 Design
1 Todos Santos
1 Chamber of Commerce
3 At Large residents

The original number was less but we added one more Design Review and one more resident at large at the last meeting.

6 city staff to 5 non city staff. Vote will go how?

What a bloated committee.

14 Grumpy Old Man February 5, 2013 at 12:41 PM

If you want nothing done, form a committee…you don’t have to look very far to see this is true.

15 Anonagirl February 5, 2013 at 7:28 PM

Instead of bitching and moaning, thinking no one will listen to your ideas, how about going the committee? Do you really think the city would turn down a good, cost saving idea? If it is a great idea, they will take credit and everyone wins.

16 Anonagirl February 5, 2013 at 7:29 PM

Sorry, meant joining not going

Concord. Home of the Spit Poles.

@ anon its actually 7 city spots as the todos santos group would not exist without city dollars and staff. I question why the Chamber is involved as it has been absent all these tears and seems like wasting a pick on a dinosaur up to its neck in the tar pit.

So thats

City 7
One absent
3 at large selected by…

City council

Doesnt seem like any one in this group will have the balls to get wise and stand up to the machinations of abag and mtc which again will bully another east bay municipality into accepting terms of surrender via blackmail so as not to lose transportation dollars that would only be used to prop up city budgets by funding planning and transportation departments

19 Randome Task February 6, 2013 at 10:14 AM

bunch of postureing and going through the motions so the city and MTC can start another skim operation. More of the same from MTC as usual they will impose a tax to use the todos santos streets and say it is for beautification only to buy a new fleet of personal vehicles for their staff. M.T.C >>>>meaningless …..trivial…..criminals
