The “Water Cooler” is a feature on where we ask you a question or provide a topic, and you talk about it!

The “Water Cooler” will be up Monday-Friday in the noon hour.

Have you ever won anything? If so, what, when & how?

Talk about it….

I won a robot on a game show years ago. It’s a long story…

2 Killjoy January 25, 2013 at 12:05 PM

When I asked my wife to marry me, and she said yes, I won! :)

Every single day…. I win the Shit Outta Luck Award.

I got my song selection played on Live 105 once – Big Rick Stewart was the dj, and it was his regular 4pm thing where someone picks six songs for him to play. I don’t remember the name of the segment. I worked the song titles into my request to have them played, and he was amused.

I also won some yarn from a popular knitting blogger known as The Yarn Harlot. It was a raffle for people who donated to MSF (those of us knitters who donate are known collectively as Knitters Without Borders).

I think that’s it. I don’t gamble, so I don’t do much that would involve winning. :)

I won a 2 week stay, all transportation from nearest airport, SFO-Nome,AK, Lodging, food and snacks, at Cripple Creek Gold Camp, 12 miles North of Nome, Alaska! I go this summer and looking forward to the experience; I’ve been a prospector for over 20 years, so this should be a trip of a lifetime; It’s FREE..

I won a giant stuffed pink and white bear in First Grade for a school fund raiser about 1984. Bear was bigger than me and I felt like the coolest kid in school for the longest time.

Won a 3 day trip to the Brickyard (Indianapolis) Nascar race back in 2002 from Channel 3 and a radiostation. Room and rental car for 3 days, just by adding my eail address to the contest list. Bill Elliot won.

8 JenA January 25, 2013 at 1:02 PM

I won different things here and there. I won the diaper derby when I was a baby (got money), and giant stuffed Easter basket, a coloring contest at a restaurant (got kids meal for a year free), concert tix, lottery ($5 to 1000).

Beat cancer, twice.

In the early part of 2002 and again in 2007.

Attribute it to excellent work by the staff at Mt. Diablo Cancer Center (now John Muir) and my own general orneryness.

Dr. Donald D. Rose drew my name on KBHK channel 44 to win a Halloween pumpkin from Albertson’s circa 1975. My mom was waiting outside for me as I walked home from school.

My parents won about half the stuff in our house as the big winners playing a TV gameshow called “PDQ”; every appliance imaginable, furniture, etc.

I liked my pumpkin better.

11 Won January 25, 2013 at 1:05 PM

I won a half a beer and a nice conversation! :-)

12 Parsnip January 25, 2013 at 1:07 PM

My then-husband entered me (us) in a golf tournament. I won Women’s third low gross and closest to the 13th hole. (And I don’t golf.) UGGGGLIEST carpet imaginable was my third place prize. I think closest to the 13th hole was money — obviously not much.

Otherwise, Lotto about $80.00; slots (when I lived in Las Vegas) somewhere around $100; KDFC: a group of prizes for answering a contest question.

Just “stuff.”

13 Pandakilla January 25, 2013 at 1:12 PM

I got an all exclusive paid vacation to Cabo San Lucus. I got to bring my wife for 4 days, I used to work for a swimming pool company. I won the trip for being one of the top managers for the district.

14 The Phantom January 25, 2013 at 1:18 PM

I never won anything, I’ve a loser my entire life.

15 Bob January 25, 2013 at 1:21 PM

I sent a suggestion into my company and most thought it was not such a good idea–long story short, I won (awarded) $40,000–it saved the company about $400,000 and I got 10%.

16 Cocopark January 25, 2013 at 1:41 PM

I won a Sony Watchman back in the early ’80’s from KOFY TV.. I just happened to be looking at the TV screen one Saturday afternoon folding laundry and my name scrolled across! I still have it, and it still works.

17 jtkatec January 25, 2013 at 1:42 PM

Phantom, that’s so sad.

Anonmtz, congratulations. You are truly blessed.

An all expense paid trip including airfare to New Zealand back in 2001 or 2002 from KTVU all by entering the word of the day on their website. Probably the one and only time I will travel to that part of the world. Amazing trip.

I’ve won at gambling at the Indian Casinos as well. Won $3, 700 on one trip and then another $1,500. Both on slots and at the same casino about a month apart.

19 Cubeslave January 25, 2013 at 2:27 PM

Won $3500 at the craps table once! The very first and last time I have played craps! I don’t like gambling, but it was my honeymoon and we were in Tahoe for the week. The marriage went bust, found out he was a compulsive gambler and left me with over 40K in debt. lol… (true story)

Winning…a state of mind? People can win prized such as products and trips, they can win sports games and matches requiring assorted skills. All that is good. People will refer to someone as having “winning ways” and that is a choice the person took to develop a specific personality and anyone who really wants to can do the same. Winning is being kinder to others than they are to you. Winning is random acts of kindness. Winning is bringing a smile to a face that may not have had a reason to smile. To be a winner, think and act like a winner. To be a loser, think and act like a loser. Its all up to you.

21 nameswithkids January 25, 2013 at 2:54 PM

several things- some more important than others–
one a couple bucks from scratchers that I found on p-lot grounds. I wouldn’t pay to play them things
I won a door prize at a charity auction and got a year supply of jelly bellys from the jelly belly factory
This won I did not personally win but my heart did- I entered a friend into K Love contest for selfless acts (its a christian radio station, i forget the exact name of the contest but it was something along the lines of people in your community helping others) My friend opened her garage into a mini store and thru overstock, store donations, and friends was able to cloth woman coming from abuse situations, domestic violence, and just getting clean from drugs. She won a gift basket with little pampering goodies. I thought it was awesome
Best win of all– my then 3 1\2 year old daughter beating neuroblastoma kidney cancer. Watching your child suffer, they don’t know why or what is going on with all the pain, is heartbreaking. After it was all said and done THAT WAS THE BEST WIN OF ALL. 3 years later and she’s still in remission. Her oncologist says she’s probably good to go from here on out :)

22 Chatterbox January 25, 2013 at 3:02 PM

I won the lottery once….even if it was only $2!

23 Pegasus January 25, 2013 at 3:06 PM

Every morning you awaken you’ve won the prize of life. How will you spend your winnings?

24 LostBoysMom January 25, 2013 at 3:22 PM

Just over 20 years ago I won $4000 in the lottery. It was when they gave fewer but larger prizes as I had picked 4 out of 6 numbers. I’ve also won $100 on scratch offs a few times and one time $1000.
A few years ago my son won a nice stereo and an X box with games from Live 105. I think he just entered his name.
Right now I’m hoping to win a dream house from HGTV!

25 DoubleTrouble January 25, 2013 at 4:03 PM

Chevron had a scratcher game years ago and I won free gas for a year.

26 Just Two January 25, 2013 at 4:15 PM

I went shopping at some department store years ago-I entered in a raffle and won a children’s wedding set for my daughter. She was so ecstatic!

27 MTZ native January 25, 2013 at 6:13 PM

My husband and I won two Wii’s and a 40′ Sony LCD TV from his Christmas party.

28 Triple Canopy January 25, 2013 at 7:44 PM

I don’t enter radio, TV, or online contests cuz I’d rather exist without all the junk mail or telephone calls.

I’ve hit/drawn a royal flush on video poker machines about a dozen times and twice in one weekend! The best payoff was about $4,500. Decent beer and hot rod money.

29 City Girl January 25, 2013 at 8:03 PM

I won a nice, pretty six-figure lawsuit against “probably” the largest health insurance company in this state/country. They were wrong, I was right, and it felt good as hell to collect from them. Actually, it was a settlement; the suit did not actually go to trial!!! YAY for me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

30 I won a Furby! January 25, 2013 at 9:49 PM

Before I even knew what they were.. a Bay Area radio station was describing and playing with this toy on the air. They decided to raffle it off to whoever could come up with the most creative name for this creature. I e-mailed in a few names and won the contest with… FURBY-NINER!!! :) I had Furby-Niner sent directly to my best friend’s ill child at Children’s Hospital. The child hated it but the nurses on staff loved it.

What’s sad is the imposter who brings his nonsence over here from Politics. I cannot recall winning big until Kaiser Chemo helped me suppress cancer two years ago. anonmtz and I have more than that in common.

I’m sorry but it seems Howard K likes to do pseudo id’s.

“To be a winner, think and act like a winner.”

Words to live by. The only people who are losers are those who stop trying.

33 Jeff January 26, 2013 at 7:53 AM

I was part of a national championship team – both in hs and college. Although “winning” is a relative term, i felt that being ranked 86th in the nation in college was a win as well…

34 Cruella January 26, 2013 at 8:00 AM

I won a sweepstakes by Levi Strauss when I was 20 years old, “Ten Best Discos,” by filling out an entry at Mervyn’s in P. Hill. Took the cash instead ($10,000), which went a long ways (early 80s). About a decade later, I won a trip with the Oakland As to Seattle (5 days, hotel and airfare). Took my then 8 year old – he loved it and was able to meet some of the players. I’ve won jackpots on penny slots ($1,000 to $1,500) a few times. But truly my best “wins” are successfully raising my children, getting a great job (26 years and counting) and meeting a wonderful man.

35 Atticus Thraxx January 26, 2013 at 8:39 AM

Born a middle-class white male in America.

36 Lori January 26, 2013 at 9:28 AM

Won 360.00 in a 50/50 raffle at College Park football game , donated it back to the team. Still waiting for Karma to hit me back :)

37 Athleticsfan January 26, 2013 at 9:35 AM

My brother won a trip to the British Virgin Islands fully paid by Jose Cuervo. Whole week in different Island every day and a music concert at the end hosted by MTV VJ Dan Cortez (yeah this was when MTV was good), that was a fun trip. My wife just won a trip for 2 to Alaska from Celebrity Cruises from one of the local radio stations.

Myself. I’ve only ever won 2 music cassetts from a radio station sometime in the 90’s.

38 Cowellian January 26, 2013 at 9:46 AM

While in High School, I won a safe driving slogan contest sponsored by Ford. My prize was a transistor radio that had both AM and FM bands.

39 The Phantom January 26, 2013 at 10:33 AM

Getting the “reach around” from my special friend felt like I won. Does that count?

40 Blondie January 26, 2013 at 11:18 AM

I put 4 quarters in a machine, hit a couple of buttons and won a soda pop!!! :)

41 GoodTimes January 26, 2013 at 2:12 PM

Well-TC, it looks like you had the makings of a really good time.

42 Card January 26, 2013 at 7:40 PM
