A Martinez man has been arrested for allegedly placing a hidden camera inside the bathroom at the Papa Murphy’s on Arnold Drive in Martinez.

The following information is from the Martinez Police Department:

On 1/18/13 at 3:40 PM, Martinez Police Department received a call regarding a hidden camera being located in the employee restroom of Papa Murphy’s Pizza (1155 Arnold Dr. #B, Martinez).

The responding officer spoke with an employee who gave the officer the camera she found in the restroom.

The manager, 31 year old Martinez resident Jason Lassor, was subsequently arrested after the initial investigation.

Lassor was later booked at the Contra Costa County Jail in Martinez for a misdemeanor violation of PC 647(j)(3)(a) – Disorderly conduct, invasion of privacy.

Oops! January 23, 2013 at 8:47 PM

Hell, Chuck Berry (yep… That Chuck Berry) had his restaurant ladies room wired for 16 cams including one IN the toilet. This creep was obviously not thinking BIG.

Parsnip January 23, 2013 at 8:53 PM

This is the very reason why I so rarely use public restrooms, and absolutely do not use dressing rooms to try on clothes. Too many sickos on the loose.

Lg January 23, 2013 at 9:04 PM

I felt sick after reading this!

Cracky McGee January 23, 2013 at 9:08 PM

Unfortunately this is all too common now adays … there are pens, clocks, books, smoke detectors, outlets, light switches, air purifiers, tissue boxes, sunglasses, keychains, wrist watches etc … all that contain cameras for a perverts viewing pleasure. ALWAYS stay alert in ANY public bathroom! This includes doctor’s offices, restaurant bathrooms, gym locker rooms etc …

thank you, parsnip January 23, 2013 at 9:15 PM

…though my concerns are more over cleanliness than observation.

Frickin’ perverts should be castrated. It wouldn’t be cruel or unusual if it were to occur more often as to make that type of punishment “normal”.

Just like with the death penalty, why wait til midnight? Heck, if it were up to me I’d just mark the calendar and hang it up in the convict’s view. Then when the date arrives, walk in at my discretion and say, “Git your azz up, it’s time to go”.

Elwood January 23, 2013 at 10:01 PM

Papa Murphy’s Pizza!

Now with freak!

the Shi ite January 23, 2013 at 10:03 PM

It’s worse than you think – there are WiFi “smoke detectors” with motion activated cameras. Check ebay.

Pleasant Jenny January 23, 2013 at 10:08 PM

We travel a lot to take care of our parents and I always see cameras watching me relieve my bladder. I just give it the middle finger. It’s a total boost to a Mom of several teens.

Don't Censor Me Bro January 24, 2013 at 3:24 AM

@ Darwin #29 – I don’t see 647(j)(3)(a) among the crimes which require PC 290 registration, did you?

Horse'n Around January 24, 2013 at 5:45 AM

Eeeewwwwww!!!! Watches video…… then makes pizza…….GROSS!!!!!!!!

Parsnip January 24, 2013 at 6:12 AM

@#18 — Meaning so long as there’s soap you’re happy with the service?

tsk tsk January 24, 2013 at 6:22 AM

Everyone thought it was a great idea to ditch the 4th Amendment because of 911. Everyone thought it was a great idea to have ‘security cameras’ everywhere. Everyone thought it was a great idea to have corporations mine, buy and sell all your personal information. Everyone thought it was a great idea to take naked pictures of anyone boarding a plane. And now we’re upset because one pervert has adopted that mindset for their personal entertainment? Get used to it. You wanted cameras everywhere, you got cameras everywhere.

Fast Eddie January 24, 2013 at 6:42 AM

Remember when the Concord Chief of Police did this in the men’s room to stop vandalizm? There was a class action lawsuit over it.

It reminds me of the time all the toilet seats were stolen in the police station. The cops had nothing to go on.

Russ January 24, 2013 at 6:48 AM

@Public Defender: its clear that your client was trying unfairly to gain a competitive advantage in “Hide the Salami”

Josh January 24, 2013 at 7:07 AM

Keep it classy Martinez…..

iamerica January 24, 2013 at 7:16 AM

It’s gross. But in the amount this probably happens why fear restrooms or dressing rooms. I’d say give them the truffle shuffle and assume every where you go someone is watching you.

Mr. John January 24, 2013 at 7:19 AM

I’m not going to assume the guy was being a pervert – he may have positioned the camera in such a way to focus on catching vandals, employees sneaking in the bathroom to smoke, etc… rather than for perverse reasons. It was wrong regardless of his reasoning, but he may not be the pervert many of you think he is.

On the other hand, he may be, and I would stop going to that location if it were in my area because of the heightened risk to my privacy.

It is sad that this is likely going to end up shutting down his business and taking the jobs of all his employees.

Cowellian January 24, 2013 at 7:25 AM

I hope he enjoys his stay in jail.

P HILL LOVIN January 24, 2013 at 7:41 AM

@Fast Eddie
Yup – I remember the CPD scandal. I had even used those urinals on occasion…..but I don’t remember hearing anybody laughing.

NutCreek Frontier January 24, 2013 at 9:54 AM

This may shut the business down, but I am sure the employees will be suing and will be justly compensated for this horrific violation of privacy.

Seems odd to me that our usual contributors from Martinez are not commenting here.

Shuley January 24, 2013 at 10:46 AM

Reality check. It’s a misdemeanor. He is probably already out and will receive a slap on the wrist.

Meanwhile, Papa Murphy’s has deep pockets and they will likely be the ones targeted in a lawsuit. This guy probably has no money so no lawyer will go after him.

anonmtz January 24, 2013 at 11:37 AM

Howiie III….face it, you are just odd.

Howard K. Mullins III January 24, 2013 at 12:48 PM

@ anonmtz January 24, 2013 at 11:37 AM

I have never denied that. I celebrate it.

I prefer to be odd, different, rather than the run of the mill man on the street, so to speak.

crappy pizza lol

Larrabee January 24, 2013 at 1:19 PM

Now we know what makes his dough rise!

MTZ native January 24, 2013 at 1:24 PM

I worked there 12 years ago. Not for the same guy of cours. I dont rememebr them allowing the public to use the restroom and it was for employees only.

Anon2you January 24, 2013 at 2:17 PM

Nothing fazes me anymore…If this idiot want to watch me take a dump or piss so what? I am just confused by this on so many levels…

Angelina January 24, 2013 at 2:59 PM

I worked for Jason at Papa Murphy’s 4 years ago for about a year, in addition to working with him… I grew up in the same neighborhood as him and his younger brother my whole life. This story really shocked me and my family because we would have NEVER expected HIM to be a peeping tom! He was always so nice and genuine. I guess you never know someone, right? I am unsure how long he’s been doing this for, but it sickens me to hear of this and know of all the people I worked with and thinking of just how many people are on those tapes! I know a lot of employees, including myself used that restroom to change in and out of our uniforms. I really hope he gets what he deserves from this and learns a huge lesson!
Mr. John, I would like to believe this was the reason for the camera was to catch someone smoking.. however, we were allowed to take “smoke” breaks out the back door, so I don’t believe anyone had to sneak into a restroom to do such actions. My mind first went to.. “There is NO way he did it for perverted reasoning… but the more I think about the year I worked there… I sadly believe it was for his own
Unfortunately, I am sure this business will close, he worked there as the manager for MULTIPLE years.. 10+ easily, He basicaslly ran the place. In the year I worked there.. I barely saw any “higher ups” there monitoring the business.
My heart goes out to all the victims of this situation!

Spanky Fortuna January 24, 2013 at 4:31 PM

Good luck finding another job….not!

Anon January 24, 2013 at 5:09 PM

@54 How much was bail?

BitterEmployee January 24, 2013 at 6:42 PM

Maybe if the owner spent the time to check out each of his stores more often and get to know his employees who have been working there for years, this could have have been prevented.

lizzie January 24, 2013 at 7:37 PM

Just maybe, he wanted to check on his employee’s, washing their hands after using the toilet. Where was the camera pointed? Not a lot of info.

Darwin January 24, 2013 at 7:49 PM

@31 Don’t censor me bro- That charge is not required to reg per PC 290. Something tells me this guy is possibly on his way to becoming a 290 registrant.

lizzie January 24, 2013 at 8:11 PM

Or maybe, he is just another perv….I am sure his family is proud of him.

Lol, they had nothing to go on, hilarious

Starfish January 27, 2013 at 12:16 AM

Perversion at its best!

Connie Dobbs January 27, 2013 at 10:33 AM

No, not its best. Too unoriginal. Lazy, even. Nothing that makes you sit up and say, “What’s that he’s doing with the grapefruit? Oh, wait. That’s just the way he’s holding the swan.” If it can’t be used for blackmail purposes, it’s not anything like truly fine perversion.

Starfish January 27, 2013 at 10:59 AM

Connie……you sound like an expert in this matter…..how many men have you blackmailed?

Connie Dobbs January 27, 2013 at 1:12 PM

Like I’d tell you.

Starfish January 27, 2013 at 1:33 PM

@ connie 🙂

Antler January 27, 2013 at 3:02 PM

Here’s the thing…….if I saw such a camera, I would NOT take it down and cart it to the police station. That would be “tampering with evidence”, right? And it also negates any direct proof of who installed the device, doesn’t it?

I would have telephoned the police station, told them the circumstances, and requested them to come to the store as quickly as possible….fingerprints, the whole bit.

Any input from Law Enforcement on this? Chief Swanger, in Concord, what kind of citizen co-operation would you prefer in circumstances like this?

Pink-n-Poodles January 29, 2013 at 1:03 AM

My daughter worked there for a year. At the time he was dating and living with another manager. He always gave me the creeps! My suspicious nature surrounding his character has finally surfaced. I only hope my daughter is not on any of the footage.

Disgusted February 2, 2013 at 10:56 AM
