” A 22-year-old male passenger from Concord was arrested for Public Intoxication.’

So if you are drunk and being transported in someone else’s car (or outside walking to that car), it is a crime?

Then why do bars let people drink more than a few beers if it’s a crime to be drunk?

Since when is it a crime to be a drunk passenger in a vehicle? Isn’t that the whole point of designated drivers?

I guess when a drunk is driving other drunks the Clayton PD arrests all the drunks.

Re: ” A 22-year-old male passenger from Concord was arrested for Public Intoxication.” From my read I infer that it was a case of a designated driver scheme is only valid if the designated driver themselves is not drunk. Sounds like the driver was busted, which left a situation of at least one drunk still standing on the sidewalk. I think there must be some officer discretion there. The officer must have decided he didn’t want to just nab the DUI but then leave the publicly intoxicated others in front of the Vanbrussellen? house. I would’ve been a bro and just dumped him off over the Concord border, “First Blood” style, but that’s why I’d make a lousy cop.

Chubby…
You got it. The driver got busted and the passenger was unable to care for himself due to intoxication and no one else was there to care for him. To the jail baby!
