The Claycord Online Museum – Clayton Road & Mitchell Canyon in the 80’s

November 20, 2012 · 13 comments

This photo came from Kendra, who says “this is a picture taken from the intersection of Clayton Road and Mitchell Canyon, looking out to the hills that Oakhurst now occupies. It was taken sometime in the mid 80’s, I think.  Most of the blossoming almond trees have now been cut down…but this is how my neighborhood looked every february when they would blossom.  So pretty!”

Very pretty! Thanks for sharing, Kendra. We plan to post a “now and then” photo later this week, so stay tuned!

My parents live close too there and that picture is beautiful, wish the hills still looked that nice, without all the ugly Oakhurst houses in the hills.

Great picture

Wish I could have bought a house back then at those prices! Of course, everything is relative, huh? Back in NY, my parents bought their place (just outside of NYC) for $50K in 1977 and it was hard for them, but they were determined to get us out of what was soon to become a crack-infested neighborhood in the city.

Very pretty. I miss the open space more and more each time I see such photos …

There should should be a before and after picture

The before picture is beautiful. Don’t think I can stomach that after picture, especially after that poor woman was kidnapped and assaulted in the parking over there.

I liked Clayton before the Lawyers cut down the beautiful Eucalyptus Trees and all the One Percenters moved in.

That’s the street I grew up on! I used to love that cows could meander right up to the houses on Cardinet and you could feed them through the fences in the pre-Oakhurst days. I miss the beautiful smell of the almond trees each February and the winter ‘snowfall’ of blossoms in everyone’s front yards. Thanks Kendra!

Try looking at a pic from the Clayton nostalgia book of the Clayton Rd corridor looking towards MDES circa mid-50s before any of the subdivisions went in. It’s a trip. Don’t blame just Seeno. It started long before him.

What a beautiful place. Wish we could turn time back a little and go back to when there was less crime.
