Pleasant Hill Police are investigating a noontime robbery on Harvard Drive near College Way (behind 7-11 on Golf Club Road), according to police.

The robbery occurred just before noon on Tuesday, when a black male in his late teens approached the victim. The suspect asked for directions to an unknown street, and when the victim started looking up the information on his iPhone, the suspect sprayed the victim in the face with an unknown substance, took the iPhone and fled the sceen.

The victim received minor injuries, but will make a full recovery.

Anybody with information on this robbery should call the Pleasant Hill Police Department.

um unless he took the phone from the guy (i’m assuming you left that out) isn’t that just assault?

2 Howard K Mullins III October 30, 2012 at 2:00 PM

Sounds like someone getting back at another for a traffic dispute.

The sprayer did not take the cell phone, did no more harm than a little pepper spray…

The “victim” may not be the victim at all…

3 Shuley October 30, 2012 at 2:05 PM

I am reading he DID take the phone. Was this revised or can these people just not read?

4 v October 30, 2012 at 2:06 PM

@casey…the victim did have his phone taken. It’s in the story. Thieves are now using mace or pepper spray (my guess), things are going to hell in a handbasket.

5 NurseSara October 30, 2012 at 2:11 PM

Um, it says the suspect “took the iphone and fled the scene”. Not sure what you guys are missing?

6 Ridiculous October 30, 2012 at 2:12 PM

It reads the sprayer took the iPhone.

7 Passerby October 30, 2012 at 2:15 PM

“… took the iPhone and fled the sceen.”

Taken straigh from the article above. Try to read a bit more carefully.

Hi Mayor – Correct me if I’m wrong , but doesn’t it say that the suspect took the victim’s iPhone in your article? So, that would answer the previous posts questions…

9 Anon October 30, 2012 at 2:19 PM

The article clearly says the suspect took the phone and fled; not sure the previous posters are reading.

10 Sundown October 30, 2012 at 2:22 PM

#1 and #2 I think I read the same posting that you did. It clearly says the perpetrator took the victims IPhone.

“the victim started looking up the information on his iPhone, the suspect sprayed the victim in the face with an unknown substance, took the iPhone and fled the sceen.”

Granted the mayor misspelled scene but that does not change the fact that he told us that the phone was taken.

11 Anon October 30, 2012 at 2:26 PM

“took the iPhone” Don’t you guys even read the article before writing your stupid comments?

12 I Work For Mormons October 30, 2012 at 2:29 PM

@Casey – try again. This time read the paragraph out loud and slow down. Looking in a hand mirror at the same time has added benefits.

13 Read it... October 30, 2012 at 2:33 PM

It clearly says he sprayed him in the face and took his iPhone.

There are several loiterers hanging out around the 7-11 and behind the recruiting stations. Either the victim or the perp could be one of those unsavory characters.

15 Hello Late-Comers October 30, 2012 at 2:53 PM

The original article WHICH HAS BEEN CHANGED did not mention the Iphone had been taken. The mayor should state that when revising an original article, saving some of you people—who have waaaaaaay too much time on your hands—from having a frickin’ cow over the questioning of an article that didn’t quite make sense in it’s ORIGINAL form.

Quoting the story: “… , took the iPhone and fled the sceen (sic!)”…

It’s not really so much of a stretch to figure out that he took the phone FROM the guy, the one he just sprayed with the “unknown “substance, not necessarily pepper spray. Actually more likely not a pepper spray, since that is rather unmistakable. And a traffic dispute? Where is that in the story? Any mention of cars or a car?

Times have changed. If someone approaches you and asks you for smoke, the time, spare change, directions, best to keep distance and decline while maintaining eye contact.

Sad because many of us grew up having values instilled to be good Samaritan, and respectful of others. Now punks today prey on that constantly!

@ bluebird #14

“Either the victim or the perp could be one of those unsavory characters.”

Or it could have been your baby boy involved in a traffic dispute.

Or maybe it was Elvis.

What the hell is wrong with you people?

19 iPhone October 30, 2012 at 3:26 PM

I certainly won’t offer any directions if I keep getting stolen!

20 Brother C October 30, 2012 at 3:38 PM

Save the tax payers lots Omoney, take the perp to Sgt jones at the recruting office, I am sure he can deploy the Individual to the Right direction.

21 anonanonagain October 30, 2012 at 3:43 PM

Enough of the bickering already. This suspect that sprayed the victim in the face and then fled with his iphone, is a lowlife, belly crawling maggot who obviously knows that already. Hope they catch the perp and accidently spray an unknown substance from Monsanto into HIS eyes……

22 Dorothy October 30, 2012 at 3:58 PM

Don’t blame you @#19-iPhone.

With that in mind, maybe I won’t even admit that I have a phone. Besides, no one wants blackberries anymore.

23 @ Hello Late Comers October 30, 2012 at 4:06 PM

You have more time than any one of them.. doin’ all that research and all. Not to mention you have the longest paragraph.. and took more time typing.. just sayin’

24 Pleasant Jenny October 30, 2012 at 5:06 PM

This is so disturbing. This is my neighborhood and we do get many of the famous homeless of Claycord over at that 7/11. But I have never seen anyone meeting that description hanging out over there. So, this is just another thug that ventured into a new neighborhood. We all need to be really careful and it is sad that it’s not even safe to help anyone out anymore.

25 Howard K Mullins III October 30, 2012 at 5:10 PM

I checked the verbiage prior to posting and I did not see that the phone had been taken. That being said, I have made mistakes in the past and will again in the future. The world will not end either way.

Since the scum did take the phone, then I hope the scumbag ends up at the bottom of a canal. I hate thieves. In South Africa they shoot them on sight. Not a bad idea for around here.

An open season on thieves would certainly upset the bleeding hearts, that in itself would be worth the effort.

26 Anon October 30, 2012 at 5:53 PM

Next time suggest THEY look it up, then you can steal this guys iPhone back.

27 Mika October 30, 2012 at 6:06 PM

Are the police too busy to trace the phone (isn’t that an iphone feature?

28 Jerk October 30, 2012 at 7:39 PM

Next time, there will be No next time – You ask and you will be denied – See how that works. What a sh!tty society, people take advantage of your decency and willingness to help and you steal from them and do them physical harm.
Bunch of Psychopaths!

But we sure have no shortage of Holier than Thou’s here, You guys should be Politicians. You’ve got a frickin’ battleship in your eye while you point out a speck in lint in everyone elses.

29 Go A's October 30, 2012 at 9:25 PM

If Obama had a son, he would look like the suspect…

30 Joe A October 30, 2012 at 10:37 PM

Only in California. In any other State spraying Jizz or anything else in someones face is sufficient to pull out your concealed carry and engage. Since no criminal in a state that respects the 2nd Amendment would do such a thing (bringing a knife to a gun fight type of thing), only in California.

31 Russ October 31, 2012 at 6:55 AM

Seems to me that some of these IPhones have devices that allow them to be tracked, just in case someone steals it after they have pepper sprayed you…..

32 This is Exactly why....... October 31, 2012 at 8:10 AM

…I say NO to any stranger approaching me for any reason.

33 Connie Dobbs October 31, 2012 at 8:15 AM

If you’re sprayed by law enforcement for no good reason you get paid.
If you get sprayed by a stranger for no good reason it’s because you’re careless or stupid. Learn your place.

34 @ Connie Dobbs October 31, 2012 at 8:23 AM

Nice blame the victim. Your a f’ing retard.

35 Connie Dobbs October 31, 2012 at 8:55 AM

You’re.
