Handcuffed Man Escapes from Concord Police Near McDonald’s on Clayton Road

October 30, 2012 13:25 pm · 55 comments

A handcuffed man, who was wanted for robbery, escaped from police near McDonald’s on Clayton Road in Concord.

The man was stopped across the street in Dianda Plaza and fled on foot. He was eventually caught near Turtle Creek & Saddlehill Lane.

No major injuries were reported, and the man, who we’re hearing is very well known on Claycord, is behind bars.

Once we confirm the name of the man, we’ll let you know.

Looking forward to hearing who this bum is.

One of the Concord 13?

how the hell did a handcuffed man get from food maxx to turtle creek!

8 Butter Cuffs October 30, 2012 at 1:54 PM

A note in the personnel file is the least of this cops worries, lets see “speedy”, “butter cuffs”, “catch n release”, etc. This is what’s known as becoming world famous locally. This is almost as good as Concord PD having “CAPTAIN CAN” protector of garbage company’s recyclables.

9 I was pulling out of the lot by Starbucks... October 30, 2012 at 1:55 PM

I was not at Starbucks, but was pulling out of that lot, when a copy pulled out from the opposite corner at full speed…it is very unusual for me to see a cop go that fast, and I saw 3 more coming from downtown Concord direction…I thought they crossed Treat at about 100 mph…much faster than one usually sees cops chasing people down in town. Two guys walking down the sidewalk from Dianda when the first cop pulled out were really laughing and looking back…these were not the drunks…looked like fairly clean cut/sober guys but they seemed to think that whatever they had just seen was quite humorous, as they watched the cops.

10 *'cop' - not 'copy' pulled out October 30, 2012 at 1:56 PM

typo above.

11 g0tgot October 30, 2012 at 1:57 PM

concord PD has not always been the brightest crayons in the box… they always have issues, cops reselling drugs on the street etc…. getting caught… looks like a bunch of rookies…

This just shows how lazy and lousy the Concord Police is. Handcuffed and running and he still gets that far away …….lay off the donuts for once Glad I dont live there as its nice and cozy here in Walnut Creek.

13 Concord res October 30, 2012 at 2:00 PM

I was driving past him on saddlehill when they arrested him again. Thanks for reporting! I live right by there and wanted to know what was going on!

14 WOW October 30, 2012 at 2:16 PM

Concord PD sucks! Handcuff a guy and still have to go chase him down? SFPD, WCPD, even Antioch PD would laugh their asses off

15 Slappy October 30, 2012 at 2:17 PM

Had the scanner on for this. Let’s not forget he was in sandals too. How do you outrun an officer handcuffed and in sandals? Took a long time and help from witnesses to find him. Doesn’t CPD see itself as the elite L.E. agency in the county??

16 anon October 30, 2012 at 2:25 PM

Maybe is was “Earl the Pearl” Tracy….arrested over 200+ times
Oh yeah- he is dead……Telfon Ron made the last arrest
Bye Earl– you drunk felon…..

17 anon October 30, 2012 at 2:25 PM

He sure ran fast with handcuffs and flip flops on.

@NRA #1 fan and member
Apparently you have NO idea what the police has to go through daily !
They ARE NOT “lazy and lousy” ! !
I hope you never have to call them for help !
THANK YOU CONCORD POLICE !

Wow

He should have ran to Ace Hardware. Could have stolen a hack saw.

Now that’s funny…

22 Don B October 30, 2012 at 3:05 PM

Was it the hamburgler? Was the perpetrator wearing “mc handcuffs?

23 Turn Around Time October 30, 2012 at 3:21 PM

Had he waited he very well could be back on the streets legally without handcuffs. Criminal justice system is rapidly becoming a joke in California.

State Senator DeSaulnier voted for AB-109 on 03/17/2011.

Since passage of AB-109 our jails are nothing but revolving doors.
In Santa Fe Springs, California commercial burglaries increased by 59 percent from 2011 during the first eight months of 2012,
residential burglaries are up 70 percent and auto theft (stolen cars) is up by 49 percent.
From 01 Jan. 2012 to second week of October 2012 Riverside County made 5,470 early releases from their jail attributed to AB109 over crowding. Riverside County also plans to spend $3.8 million to add jail space, as well as $6.2 million to hire 60 correctional officers, as a result of AB-109. just a few examples of what is taking place all around our state.

Democrat State legislature in their usual feckless kick the can down the style have shoved the state’s overcrowding problem down onto all 58 Counties. Crime rates are up all over the state.
We are less safe as a result of State Senator DeSaulnier’s vote.

24 Concordian October 30, 2012 at 3:54 PM

Did the cops even try running after the guy? I think that’s part of the job description… you know, to chase after the bad guy (cuffed or not.)

Must be missing something here right?

25 wait just a minute! October 30, 2012 at 4:24 PM

havent you ever seen a cat playing w/ a mouse? it’ll hold it and lick it and let it go a bit just to chase it and catch it again. now that’s what i’d do especially if i had Figo w/ me. it’s good exercise for everyone.

26 Howard K Mullins III October 30, 2012 at 4:25 PM

@ Turn around time

The CA justice system is becoming a joke?

It already is a joke.

How many arrested reported, just on Claycord, report that the criminal is on probation, arrested for violating that probation, has a warrant and is carrying a gun? Probably on welfare as well.

Almost all of them!

I applaud the Police. They do all they can. They are themselves handcuffed by the bleeding hearts.

Its time to kick the bleeding hearts in the butt and make CA the last place criminals want to be.

27 Officer Barbrady October 30, 2012 at 4:31 PM

Attention Gotgot

Concord PD was not involved with the Dept of Justice guy who sold dope. There was never an allegation of that. You should be careful about alluding to the brightest crayons in the box, you may be mistaken for a dull color

28 tiny tim October 30, 2012 at 4:32 PM

Name: Gabriel Guerrero

Concordian – there WAS a foot-persuit.

29 Concordian October 30, 2012 at 5:05 PM

Hey Howard (26), I think we may be outnumbered by the bleeding hearts in this state. Why we dont move… who am I kidding, the weather and location is just awesome here

30 Acc October 30, 2012 at 5:09 PM

G0tgot you’re a complete idiot.

31 rascul October 30, 2012 at 5:44 PM

Really, not in Con Cord. What less do you expect.

32 Lorelei October 30, 2012 at 5:47 PM

Isn’t DeSaulnier up for re-election next week? You KNOW what you have to do………

33 Howard K Mullins III October 30, 2012 at 5:54 PM

@Concordian

Agreed.

I can live with bleeding hearts. I keep hoping they’ll learn, but I know they won’t, until its too late.

Wonder if anyone will bother to save them?

Probably…

34 anon October 30, 2012 at 6:25 PM

Isn’t Gabriel Guerrero the guy with the paw tattoo on his neck that was involved in a robbery/shoplifting at Orchard Supply out on Clayton Rd?

35 Koncord Kid October 30, 2012 at 6:38 PM

Hooray for Concord PD #1 in Law Enforcement!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

36 Hey, Howard October 30, 2012 at 6:58 PM

wrong, try blaming the Rs who won’t cough up the money to build more prisons. You want tougher laws and more sentences…can we send to your house? Or better yet can we build the prison next door to you?

37 Randome Task October 30, 2012 at 7:08 PM

oh the revolving door policy and yet everytime i ask the bleeding hearts why they dont take in the wayward souls they refuse to answer or give their address …..must be nice to push a bad policy and yet turn the blind eye whenh it is obvious you are wrong and yet refuse to try to correct it ….oh wait that is who they are covering for the ones who go through the system and refuse to be good citizens ….maybe the feds should look into these so called bleeding hearts who want the revolving door to keep wasteing money and resources ….maybe there should be a new door one that makes you responsible for your vote ….hmmm so you vote for more taxes then you pay em first …you vote for criminals to keep getting the slap on the wrist then you rehab em ….i think i am on to something here …….or at least ……trying to look outside the revolving lines

38 KBZ October 30, 2012 at 7:19 PM

So I just happened to be in the parking lot when this kid took off. Still can’t believe I saw it. They were about to put him in the car. He jumped out of his sandals and left them behind. The officers took off running and stopped after about 30 feet. I think they need to be in better shape but I also noticed how much weight they were carrying with gun, stick etc. The lady cop who was literally right in front of my car, looked like she was gonna take off after him but this dude was hauling! Amazed that he didn’t get hit by a car on Clayton Road. The really sad part is, easily 30 cops were busy with this guy when they could have been do work ya know?

39 Shiloh October 30, 2012 at 8:03 PM

Get Gabriel Guerrero OUT OF HERE!! Why is he still in this neighborhood? Who is letting him live with them?

40 KBev October 30, 2012 at 8:08 PM

This happened literally right in front of my work. I watched the whole thing and knew the guy was going to try to run. I don’t know how the cops didn’t realize it!
After the male officer cuffed him & searched him he was walking the guy to the car and the dude just took off. SUPER FUNNY watching someone try to run with his hands cuffed behind his back. I really didn’t think he’d make it as far as he did but I guess when you have 2 (slightly) over weight cops chasing you on foot, it’s bound to happen.

41 G non October 30, 2012 at 9:02 PM

Because everyone and their mom knows who Gabriel is, I don’t think it’s a huge deal he got away, for a bit. I only hope he resisted and got a can of Pepperspray in his face as he was being recaptured. I can’t stand him, his maggot friends, and especially his dog that lunged at me that he’s unable to control when it’s riled up. A bulmastif!!

42 crazytech58 October 30, 2012 at 10:06 PM

I would “hope” that when they caught up with him, he would have “accidently” tripped a “couple” times on his way to the back of the patrol car…… hard to catch yourself when cuffed and going down FACE first !!

43 mac October 30, 2012 at 10:25 PM

So is the McDonalds open yet? That’s what is important here.

44 pants hangin down? October 30, 2012 at 10:39 PM

funny to see him running in handcuffs, no shoes and was he trying to hold his pants up too?

46 Randome Task October 31, 2012 at 12:00 AM

all fun till he kills someone because well he never got put away ….but the revolving door keeps turning …stay safe and arm yourself you know this guy is armed

47 B October 31, 2012 at 12:09 AM

hes been released recently from that arrest so hes back on the prowl

48 How about working on on your lunch.. October 31, 2012 at 5:47 AM

..Seriously, some of these cops need to worry about heart disease, diabetes, and living a healthy life. Add to that having to run after and subdue suspects, and being there to help there co-workers.

How about hitting the treadmill? Riding a bike? Walking before or after work? The whole story is rather embarrassing.

49 Mac October 31, 2012 at 7:34 AM

Guess he just hated Mcdonald`s food. (don`t we all)

And again, this other “mac” is not me

I just love how many people come on to this site to say they are gun toting cop ridiculers .Its amazing what one can conjure up in ones mind when sitting safely behind a keyboard and a door.
If you really cared about these issues you would consider all whom are involved. The citizens of Concord are grateful that vigilant officers are available for our protection and safety.
We are not Walnut Creeky or Claytonites whom feel we are better than others near our community just because of our property value or the paycheck and education we receive .
Your ability to forge together in harsh times to build our( over all) sense of community is OVERWHELMING !
Do yourself a favor and dumb yourself down sometime.iT WILL HUMBLE YOUR SOUL AND FILL YOUR SPIRIT WITH JOY !!
Just something that many of my neighbors and residence feel.

Come on now! Everyone knows you can’t catch a crackhead running, their like gazelles!!!

52 Lacy October 31, 2012 at 12:37 PM

Come on now ! You are so insensitive its demeaning to your intelligence ! This is what we have evolved to ?Parody and paranoia ? And I bet you don’t shop at Walmart and license your dog every year too! What a great diverse and possibly talented comedy writers you all could be.
By the way .VOTE. It goes farther than commentary.

53 KeepHonkingI'mReloading October 31, 2012 at 3:41 PM

What’s everyone complaining about? Overweight, underfit cops? Think about it. Do we really want the superstars of law enforcement catching stray shots? It’s “Chaff Strategy” lol. Law enforcement succumbs to Darwinian survival techniques. ‘…It’s all relative against the size of your steeple’? Wait…the donuts have holes so our Rank and File officers don’t have to!
Seriously though, thank God for them, nobody watches anyones back anymore.

54 Sawyer October 31, 2012 at 4:41 PM

This is why having cops work into their 50’s is a bad idea, not so easy to chase down criminals in their 20’s when the police are 25 plus years older. But I’m sure Everyone typing here in their late 40’s or 50’s could easily catch their twentysomething year-old son in a foot race right?
