WHAT: Visit by U.S. Representative George Miller to the new Contra Costa Central County Homeless Multi-Service Center (MSC) in Concord and nearby county respite and shelter programs.
WHEN: Tuesday, October 30, 2012 at 9:00AM to 10:00AM
WHERE: 2047 Arnold Industrial Way, Concord, CA 94520
Anka Behavioral Health, Inc. will host an October 30 site visit from Representative George Miller, who will meet with key leaders of non-profit homelessness assistance program providers, officials from Contra Costa Health Services’ Behavioral Health Division, and Contra Costa’s Continuum of Care (CoC) to tour Anka’s new Central County MSC in Concord. Rep. Miller will also tour a neighboring county homeless shelter and respite program. Over 25 individuals facing homelessness drop into Anka’s current Central County MSC site every day and even more will be served after moving to the new site.
Representative Miller will be briefed on current services in Contra Costa County supported by the Housing and Urban Development – McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act and the importance of continued and increased McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Grant funding in 2013 will be discussed. This funding level would cover the cost of renewing and expanding permanent supportive housing and rapid re-housing, while helping communities expand their investment in the Emergency Solutions Grants (ESG) program to balance the loss of the Homeless Prevention and Rapid Re-Housing Program (HPRP).
The meeting will include greetings from Anka’s President and CEO Chris Withrow, Concord Mayor Ron Leone and Contra Costa County Health Services Director Dr. William Walker. They will accompany Representative Miller on site visits to each of the facilities (Anka Central County MSC, Contra Costa County Behavioral Health Philip Dorn Respite Center for the Homeless and Central County Adult Shelter), all of which are strategically located on the grounds of 2047 Arnold Industrial Way, Concord. The tour will be followed by an overview of Contra Costa County CoC and Anka’s McKinney-Vento supported services.
Representative Miller will discuss efforts to continue to support individuals and families (including veterans) impacted by homelessness in Concord, provide an update on federal and state legislation, and respond to questions.
