Congressman George Miller to Visit Local Homelessness Assistance Programs

October 29, 2012 18:00 pm · 38 comments

WHAT: Visit by U.S. Representative George Miller to the new Contra Costa Central County Homeless Multi-Service Center (MSC) in Concord and nearby county respite and shelter programs.

WHEN: Tuesday, October 30, 2012 at 9:00AM to 10:00AM

WHERE: 2047 Arnold Industrial Way, Concord, CA 94520

Anka Behavioral Health, Inc. will host an October 30 site visit from Representative George Miller, who will meet with key leaders of non-profit homelessness assistance program providers, officials from Contra Costa Health Services’ Behavioral Health Division, and Contra Costa’s Continuum of Care (CoC) to tour Anka’s new Central County MSC in Concord. Rep. Miller will also tour a neighboring county homeless shelter and respite program. Over 25 individuals facing homelessness drop into Anka’s current Central County MSC site every day and even more will be served after moving to the new site.

Representative Miller will be briefed on current services in Contra Costa County supported by the Housing and Urban Development – McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act and the importance of continued and increased McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Grant funding in 2013 will be discussed. This funding level would cover the cost of renewing and expanding permanent supportive housing and rapid re-housing, while helping communities expand their investment in the Emergency Solutions Grants (ESG) program to balance the loss of the Homeless Prevention and Rapid Re-Housing Program (HPRP).

The meeting will include greetings from Anka’s President and CEO Chris Withrow, Concord Mayor Ron Leone and Contra Costa County Health Services Director Dr. William Walker. They will accompany Representative Miller on site visits to each of the facilities (Anka Central County MSC, Contra Costa County Behavioral Health Philip Dorn Respite Center for the Homeless and Central County Adult Shelter), all of which are strategically located on the grounds of 2047 Arnold Industrial Way, Concord. The tour will be followed by an overview of Contra Costa County CoC and Anka’s McKinney-Vento supported services.

Representative Miller will discuss efforts to continue to support individuals and families (including veterans) impacted by homelessness in Concord, provide an update on federal and state legislation, and respond to questions.

I’m sure he’ll be there when there are real homeless there. Not like the repuklican Ryan.

Howard K Mullins III October 29, 2012 at 6:14 PM

Its Miller who should be homeless after supporting the rape and pillage of America with Pelosi and their ilk.

Miller really does nothing but licks pelosi’s feet, having no backbone or concept of original thought himself.

All the left can do is throw more money at problems and make people dependent upon the government, to all our doom.

Anon October 29, 2012 at 6:16 PM

Wow, George is gonna use the homeless to get your votes. You’d better off voting those work in the shelters into congress than him.

I coordinated a visit by George Miller to my workplace a number of years ago. He wanted to get a better understanding of what we did, as well as to answer any questions that the employees might have about what was happening in DC. A group of hard core Republican employees ganged up on me outside my office and demanded to know why we were only supporting Miller, and why had we not also invited the Republican Representative from our district. They did not believe me when I told them that our district did not have a Republican representative. Figures………

A Democrat (liberal) is someone who believes he owes a deep and abiding debt to his fellow man. A debt he intends to repay with your money.

anonymous October 29, 2012 at 7:27 PM

This clown has done his share to ruin the economy.

bj October 29, 2012 at 7:42 PM

He has every right to visit the homeless. After all, he and his minions helped create the environment that lead to they being homeless.

Concord a Laughing Stock? October 29, 2012 at 8:28 PM

Isn’t it wonderful that Concord has become the epicenter of homeless services in Central Contra Costa. Mayor Leone must be proud.

I am sure Walnut Creek, Pleasant Hill, Laffayette, San Ramon, Blackhawk, and Danville will all be jealous they did not get the honor.

What plague will our good city council visit on us next? Will we open up a new landfill as the first use of the new CNWS land? How about building sub-standard poverty housing around the North Concord BART station?

Jerry J. October 29, 2012 at 8:42 PM

This is just another photo op for Miller. What does he do with all the photos of himself? And we are paying for the photographer with our taxes!

I went to see this big buffoon debate Virginia Fuller last Tuesday–what an idiot he is. He supports our Muslim President who like Miller, is destroying our country to level the playing field.

Go see Obamas America 2016 in video form now. Look what this clown is doing and reconcile it with George Miller’s behavior.

He is a useless man.

@Killjoy October 29, 2012 at 9:02 PM

as compared to a self centered R who wants everyone to pay but him. Shift everything to the middle class, heaven forbid they pay their fair share.

Scoots October 29, 2012 at 9:19 PM

I’d like to see George walk the fence line between Memory Gardens & Lowe’s (just a block away from the shelter) to see all the garbage & feces the homeless campers have left there (yes, they’re back), he could interview them & gain some insight on the problem, maybe get his shoes dirty.

soccermomwithabrain October 29, 2012 at 9:21 PM

What a joke! I saw a dozen homeless men bicycling by CVS in Concord today and one really disgusting guy going through the trash. I don’t think George Miller helped anybody today except himself. I have no idea why he gets re elected, but then, this State voted for Jerry Brown again, so…

lawyer lady October 29, 2012 at 9:21 PM

@concord a laughing stock

Concord is the largest city in coco county. Makes sense to have the meeting in concord.

JLG October 29, 2012 at 9:23 PM

Such hateful people.

Viv Cross October 29, 2012 at 9:58 PM

You want to visit homeless people… go talk to the cashiers at any big box retailer or fast food company. Most of them are living with their parents or renting a home with 10 other families.

Elwood October 29, 2012 at 10:29 PM

Nancy’s boy Bozo has been in Congress since 1975.

Wonder why people are disgusted with Congress?

Anonymous October 29, 2012 at 10:54 PM

I love it when dems want rich people to pay “their fair share” Income tax is progressive . That means the more you make the higher the percentage you pay. Democrats are so sissy they say”ask the wealthy to pay their fair share” like it’s optional. Their solution to our economic woes is to take peoples money and give it to other people.Thats it,all they know.

Cruella October 30, 2012 at 6:54 AM

We’re all going to pay for the homeless problem in one way or another. If they’re out on the street, it will be a problem. If they are in jail, taxpayers will pay. If they do not get health care, we will pay by way of higher costs for their emergency room visits. We may as well have programs in place to deal with this issue. I personally love that we all have the freedom of choice. No need to bash people who do not agree with you.

ClayDen October 30, 2012 at 7:27 AM

Obama, the Socialist in charge.
Pelosi, the idiot Socialist,
Miller, Pelosi in drag.

Get rid of them all.

Anonymous October 30, 2012 at 7:38 AM

Miller has never held a real job. Whatever the far lefts position is,that’s his. What has he ever done but spend other peoples money?

Commie Miller October 30, 2012 at 7:56 AM

Hey Miller,

Move the “homeless shelter” into your own house, you do-gooder with other peoples’ money.

And we’ll take your Social Secur…oh, wait, you DON’T have “Soc. Sec” like the rest of surfs.

Democrat House or Senator: 99% tax on all your wealth.

anon October 30, 2012 at 8:07 AM

What a pit of vipers here.

Hope you all feel better for squirting out all that venom.

Enough Already! October 30, 2012 at 8:38 AM

Was his son able to scam some deal to install solar panels on the Contra Costa Central County Homeless Multi-Service Center (MSC) at some ridiculously inflated price?

With the investigation that is sure to come, George and his son should crawl back under the rock from where they came and hide!

I can not believe the voters of this district keep sending this TURD back to Washington. . .

Feckin Irish Mouse October 30, 2012 at 9:02 AM

Enough Already – there are NO solar panels at the multi purpose center…They get their power the old fashion way……..PG &E……..Better do some research before shooting off your mouth

Georgeisachump October 30, 2012 at 9:29 AM

@Feckin Irish Mouse-You are an idiot, It was said tongue and cheek. The point is that these people are such morons that the only way he could get his kid a job was to pave the way for billions of dollars worth of useless loans from congress to solar companies. Solar companies that can’t survive on the open market because it is not cost effective without government assistance.

Georgie jr works for one of the Solar Companies that received loans from his father. You better do the research!

Judge Roy Bean October 30, 2012 at 9:46 AM

Does that mean he will be stopping by the new Mac-D on Clayton Rd?
Cant we vote out the old liberal fossil? Don’t you all get it, it is his type of policies that have contributed to the homeless population.

Concord1963 October 30, 2012 at 10:10 AM

Seriously, why does he continue to be re-elected????? Is it because his name is usually the only one on the ballot?? That doesn’t mean you have to mark it!! I’m a registered dem and haven’t voted for good old George in years. Yet, he’s still here ……

BagsFlyFree October 30, 2012 at 10:30 AM

George… You’ve accomplished quite a bit over the years, but…….. its time you moved on and let new faces on capitol hill. You’ve become so connected in politics that you can sneeze and get re-elected.. You barely have to put up a fight anymore to stay where you are. Hang up the gloves, enjoy retirement..

“In 2011-12, Miller sponsored 10 bills (placing him at #40 out of 440 House members), none of which were made into law (ranks 18 of 440). He co-sponsored 199 bills (placing him at #138 out of 440), 4 of which were made Into law (ranks 17 of 440)”

We as voters cant expect change if we keep sending old ideas, political lifers, and such year after year after year….. This guy has been in office before PC’s were built, do you really think he is in touch with generation X,Y,Z’s needs??? Remember to vote out all political hill incumbents!!

Concord a Laughing Stock? October 30, 2012 at 10:51 AM

@ lawer lady

Did you read the introductory article?

” They will accompany Representative Miller on site visits to each of the facilities (Anka Central County MSC, Contra Costa County Behavioral Health Philip Dorn Respite Center for the Homeless and Central County Adult Shelter), all of which are strategically located on the grounds of 2047 Arnold Industrial Way, Concord.”

I was making the point that ALL these facilities and services are located in Concord – unless the introductory article itself is in error.

Concord is the largest city but not by that much. As a resident of Concord, I am tired of the limousine liberals driving out here to our city and demanding that we solve the world’s problems (but not in their back yard).

Why are we supposed to have shelters for all the homeless and build more poverty housing? Why is our go-along city council tolerating this?

Why are we the ones left holding the abag?

LoriesStories October 30, 2012 at 10:58 AM

Will he be holding a baby when photos are taken?

Retire Miller October 30, 2012 at 11:14 AM

Miller needs to be put out to pasture. He has had his many years of flip-flop self service and really it is time to move on. Like most local politicians they fail the concept of public service.

The watcher October 30, 2012 at 5:53 PM

George, ever try looking under our city bridges and just maybe visit them WITHOUT the press to show your true feelings and see the condiditions? LOOSER.
PS, try leaving your body guards at home and not on OT to see real life.

ChampagneKitty October 30, 2012 at 7:48 PM

KRON4’s Stanley Roberts was also visiting a homeless encampment in Concord a couple weeks ago for his “People Behaving Badly” segment.

Jerry J. October 31, 2012 at 5:55 AM

I saw this fool debate Fuller and he talks out of both sides of his mouth. He is says he wants to help middle class yet he is behind all these taxes that will continue to crush the middle class.

He is definitely for big government taking care and regulating us. He actually said this.

Miller is aligned with Obama so get ready for a brotherhood of Muslims running our world.

Btw, his son is a lobbyist who got his client a huge contract and George voted for it. Say, “dirty hands?.”

George didn’t pack the room with all his liberal union members because it was 15 dollars a head to get in.

ChampagneKitty October 31, 2012 at 9:03 AM

to Jerry J #37:
“Miller is aligned with Obama so get ready for a brotherhood of Muslims running our world.”

It’s okay to criticize politicians. But this particular statement is waaay out there. President Obama is not a Muslim and most people know that. You may not like him, but don’t go around saying stuff that isn’t true.

Jerry J. October 31, 2012 at 8:37 PM

@champagne Go see the movie Obamas 2016 then tell me he isn’t a Muslim. He hates America just like his wife. Look at who his friends are and who he has put in charge.

He is a piece of work and he will get his pink slip next tuesday. Obama will get what he has coming to him someday.

Tony October 31, 2012 at 9:05 PM

Say….Jerry J…..you apparently paid your $15.00 to listen to Fuller debate Miller….wondering whether you got off your ass to ask a question of either candidate or make a statement?
Did you just sit there and whine, fester and snivel? Another mouth breathing, weak bladder fool.
