The Water Cooler: Annoying Sounds

September 28, 2012 12:00 pm · 110 comments

The “Water Cooler” is a feature on Claycord.com where we ask you a question or provide a topic, and you talk about it!

The “Water Cooler” will be up Monday-Friday at noon!

What sounds (baby crying, dog barking, etc) really bother you?

Talk about it….

effing leaf blowers…one neighbor hired her mow n’ blow crew to come do her house EVERY SATURDAY MORNING FOR THE PAST 8 YEARS. At 8a.m. Sometimes 7:45 a.m. her revenge, for me complaining about her wacko horse person she rented her pasture out to that many years ago. She sure showed me! heh.
The other neighbor, who speaks VERY. LOUD. RUSSIAN. in his backyard. Or, front yard. His contempt for America is very evident. He treats all his surrounding neighbors like crap.
Neighbor to the other side, lawyer dude. Entitled type who think he owns the neighborhood cuz he’s lived there longer than us. He likes to leave his beater pickup truck that is parked right on the property line in the front area, running for oh, 1/2 hr to “warm it up” The exhaust smell drives me in the house, where the loud engine running also follows me in there.

4 Dee September 28, 2012 at 12:09 PM

Those damn stereo’s these idiots drive around with that you can hear coming 2 blocks away and when stopped at lights and stuff they feel that you need to listen to their BS crap they have playing.

5 Anon777 September 28, 2012 at 12:11 PM

It depends upon where I’m at and what I’m doing. We have fire alarm testing at our building once a month and that drives me batty for the 1/2 hour they do it. Another time we kept hearing this beeping noise and finally figured out it was another building a couple blocks away whose alarms were going off. I wanted to scream because it went on for hours. Car alarms are another that bug me. I’m on the 7th floor and I can always hear the car alarms from the parking garage below.

6 buggingme September 28, 2012 at 12:11 PM

People talking in public places on their cellphones. I really wish they’d keep their business to themselves.

Loud music especially with the base turned way up.

Parents babying their whining bratty children instead of teaching them who is boss — I really hate it when kids are whining and crying at stores and the parents cut deals with them such as “if you behave I’ll buy that for you.” If you stop crying you can have that candy bar”. it’s just sickening.

9 jtkatec September 28, 2012 at 12:18 PM

The nasty noise men make when they are “clearing” their throat, before they spit…. there’s a better way to describe it, but it makes me gag just thinking about it.

10 Brian Griffin September 28, 2012 at 12:21 PM

neighbor, loud exhaust, lets it idol for 15 minutes in the early morning. This isn’t Alaska. Another idiot honks, and honks, the horn to pick up the neighbor kid at 7:00. Thanks moron. another neighbor gets up and in the open garage by 6:30 with his barking dog. another moron..

11 Wisecracker September 28, 2012 at 12:25 PM

1. Dogs who bark constantly for no reason.
2. Their owners.

12 Kirkwood September 28, 2012 at 12:25 PM

Babies crying on airplanes. There was a time when people didn’t take babies on airplanes.
I have more, but this should be enough to set some people off.

13 Barking Dogs September 28, 2012 at 12:26 PM

My neighbors have had a succession of barking dogs for over 10 years. The can get out anytime, so they bark all day when the owners aren’t home.

You can’t even sit in your backyard without them barking.

14 Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr September 28, 2012 at 12:29 PM

Kids whining loudly at 6am next door. Then Mother yelling at them to top it off.
Little pesky dog barks.

15 AnonyMrs. September 28, 2012 at 12:30 PM

People wh let their dogs bark, and bark, and bark, and bark, and bark

Whispering voices. My husband watches the outdoor channel a lot and when the hunters just keep talking, and talking, but their whispering. That is so irritating…

16 anon September 28, 2012 at 12:30 PM

My neighbors 3 dogs that bark all day and night while the tweeker does nothing to stop them. Animal Control has been notified.

17 @Julie September 28, 2012 at 12:34 PM

Funny how you think you own the neighborhood too.
Entitled yuppies moving in with their ADD princesses and little terrors , SUV’s and loud dogs are destroying all the once peaceful neighborhoods.

18 AnonyMrs. September 28, 2012 at 12:37 PM

I just realized in my # 15 post that I used the pronoun “their” instead of the contraction “they’re.” I felt the need to correct myself since it irritates the $hit out of me when other people misuse “there, their, & they’re…”

19 Dude September 28, 2012 at 12:38 PM

People complaining… about anything…

20 inmotion September 28, 2012 at 12:41 PM

The family with the very loud and annoying caged cockatoo parrot kept in their garage.

21 Jay R September 28, 2012 at 12:42 PM

The sound of people whining and complaining coming from Claycords Politics thread. Have a good weekend everyone! :)

22 Anon September 28, 2012 at 12:46 PM

a Republican speaking!

23 Antler September 28, 2012 at 12:50 PM

Semi-automatic weapon fire from CNWS starting at 10:45 at NIGHT and going on for about a half hour. That does not happen every night, but it should not happen at all. Somebody needs an enclosed, heavily-soundproofed firing range building over there and/or decent target practice hours.

24 concord original September 28, 2012 at 12:53 PM

im with Dee #4-total b/s no consideration of others, and you know they’re a real azzhole when the passenger window is down and there alone blasting that crap.

25 Anon September 28, 2012 at 12:54 PM

The sounds of Oak Grove Middle parents/sibs blasting crappy music at deafening decibel levels through bad Honda Civic speakers around the school. Thanks for sharing!

26 Starfish September 28, 2012 at 12:56 PM

You know–I have to agree with Jay R many times ;)

27 "ME" September 28, 2012 at 12:56 PM

Early a.m. Mowers and Blowers!!!! So inconsiderate, especially on Sat. or Sun. OR before 8-9 a.m.

28 DomiNeeksAFreak September 28, 2012 at 1:00 PM

I CAN’T STAND IT when I’m waiting for my order to be ready at Mickey D’s in Park-n-Shop and the french fry machine keeps beeping & beeping & beeping & beeping & beeping & beeping & beeping & beeping & beeping & beeping & beeping & beeping & beeping & beeping & beeping & beeping & beeping & beeping & beeping & beeping & beeping & beeping & beeping & beeping & beeping & beeping & beeping & beeping & beeping & beeping & beeping & beeping & beeping & beeping & beeping & beeping & beeping & beeping & beeping & beeping & beeping & beeping & beeping & beeping & beeping…. get my point?

29 Jojo Potato September 28, 2012 at 1:01 PM

Load crouch rockets speeding up the hill on Ygnacio towards John Muir. Is that really necessary? Good thing there’s an emergency room right there for when you will need it.

30 Wisecracker September 28, 2012 at 1:03 PM

@ Anon #16
You probably already know this… but it takes more than one person to contact Animal Services with regard to an annoying dog who barks constantly. If you are the only one who calls, they will make a log of it, however, it is only when a second individual calls that they will then send out their letter to the address. I guess if you are the only one complaining then they probably consider it “whining” or “trivial”. There’s a whole sequence of events which need to take place. But there you have it. Basicially, annoying barking dogs have more rights than people.

31 Parsnip September 28, 2012 at 1:08 PM

Stupid expressions such as “My bad.”

Your bad WHAT??? Add a noun and finish the sentence.

32 marinemom September 28, 2012 at 1:10 PM

Anyone talking loud on their cell phones especially in a restaurant.

33 Diggles September 28, 2012 at 1:14 PM

Julie.

34 Stumpy September 28, 2012 at 1:15 PM

I’m with Dee we don’t need to hear that loud crap some call music coming from cars most of witch sound like they are about fall apart from the vibration.

35 Bishop Estates September 28, 2012 at 1:25 PM

Very loud mufflers or whatever it is on Motorcycles that roar up and down Concord Blvd. at night. I like motorcylces…just not when they wake me up from my much needed beauty sleep :)

@ Julie…. doesnt sound like you like your neighbors/neighborhood much…..

36 Screwy Louie September 28, 2012 at 1:29 PM

The loud bass from cars was only a mild annoyance until one time when it was actually painful. Must have been a certain frequency, it was only that one time, very strange. Still Inconsiderate either way, especially dropping off/picking up at schools.

37 Ite Den late September 28, 2012 at 1:31 PM

My old lady yelling at me or anyone!!

38 The Professor September 28, 2012 at 1:35 PM

Little brats throwing tantrums in a store or restaurant. Parents, take the kids outside.
Harleys late night. Buy a muffler.
Idiots playing bad rap at the stoplight. Bro’, your license plate frame is vibrating so bad that it’s going to break.
Smoke alarm low battery beeps. It only happens at 3:00 a.m.

39 Shiloh September 28, 2012 at 1:36 PM

People chewing with their mouths open! I see so many adults who do this . . And so many kids who do it right in front of their parents and aren’t ever corrected for it.

Barking dogs, LOUD bass. The absolute worst has to be someone having a loud cell phone conversation in a public place. I once moved tables in a restaurant because it was just SO LOUD and no end to the conversation in sight :/

40 FitGirl September 28, 2012 at 1:37 PM

The sound of my co-worker chewing with her mouth open and smacking her food.! Disgusting and shes talking with food in her mouth as well. So gross and rude!

41 Anonymous September 28, 2012 at 1:39 PM

I feel like turning my stereo up in honor of Dee and Stumpy today.

42 Air conditioners & Fans September 28, 2012 at 1:40 PM

A constant hummmmm drives me crazy. Usually, it’s indoors, meaning cold air is blowing on me, too, which multiplies the annoyance.

43 american pie September 28, 2012 at 1:49 PM

My alarm clock! God I hate that sound.

44 AnotherAnon September 28, 2012 at 1:58 PM

The LOUD horn honking when people use a remote to lock/unlock their car. It isn’t so bad from a distance, but when up close to the car when the horn honks, it startles the sh*t outta me. My remote just makes a quiet beep a couple times.

45 Kirkwood September 28, 2012 at 2:10 PM

@american pie
Best reply yet!

46 anonOCD September 28, 2012 at 2:15 PM

Loud people in general! When you’re seeing a movie and the person behind you waits to unwrap their candy or whatever it is during the quite parts of the movie.grrr. Loud breathers and snoring also drive me crazy!

47 Menegene September 28, 2012 at 2:15 PM

This scrub jay that’s been hanging out for a good week. Ok, everyone gets it. Your the new big bird of the perimeter, S.T. F.U!!!! I’m the biggest animal nut, but your screeching!!

48 Mac September 28, 2012 at 2:18 PM

50 the purpose of the string September 28, 2012 at 2:49 PM

Arguments, especially those in a language that I can’t understand.

51 teri September 28, 2012 at 2:54 PM

I agree that people driving cars with very loud music is irritating as all get out. But what makes it unacceptable to me is that often their lyrics include cuss words and sexual content. Where is their respect for children within earshot?

52 Triple Canopy September 28, 2012 at 2:56 PM

Water dripping
Mockingbirds at all hours of the night
Babies and toddlers crying or whining in restaurants and airplanes.
Dogs barking for no apparent reason.
Harleys btwn 10 PM and 7 AM.
Loud cellphone conversations
Cuckoo clocks
Unattended pagers (it’s an office thing for the customer service counter).
A gay co-worker’s lovey-dovey conversations with his butt-humping buddy.
Obama’s lies.
Rap “music”.

@13… you can sue based on nuisance law. Their dog barking at you while you are attempting to enjoy your own property is grounds for nuisance abatement or damages.

53 Ugh September 28, 2012 at 2:57 PM

The lady in my office that talks NON STOP. I know everything there is to know about her cat, her family, her friends, her garden, her BBQ, her bills, her finances, her current ongoing problem with her disgusting rotten teeth needing to be pulled and her dilemma with finding affordable dentures… oh not to mention her entire menopaus ordeal is her top pick of things to talk about. Come on lady- TMI! We’re co-workers, not therapists!!
Her nagging tone and voice is just about the most annoying sound I can think of.

54 Starfish September 28, 2012 at 3:01 PM

Have a good vacation, Mac :-)

55 lavala September 28, 2012 at 3:04 PM

My co-worker I share an office with constant burping/belching.

56 Palermo September 28, 2012 at 3:23 PM

When I’m in a restaurant and a kid starts whining or crying, equally bad is when the parents then go shhhhhhhhhhhhh. Repeat 998 times. Back in my day if a kid acted up the parents took them outside until they calmed down.

57 I don't understand people using alarms if they annoy them September 28, 2012 at 3:42 PM

I get up early everyday, and never use an alarm clock. It baffles me the people on here who say the sound of their alarms annoys them. If it annoys you, why don’t you just go to bed 8 hrs. before you need to get up, and then don’t use the alarm? It is so much more peaceful to just wake up when you’ve had your 7-8 hrs. of sleep and you just wake up peacefully!

It’s very simple…just count back 7-8 hours from when you need to get up, and go to sleep at that time. Every day. Then you won’t need to listen to the alarm!

58 Sandy September 28, 2012 at 3:45 PM

Whistling! I think it’s obnoxious. The person is just looking for attention.

59 Gotcha September 28, 2012 at 3:51 PM

Sound that really bothered me, voice of one of my bosses.
But some how I fixed it, he won’t come near me anymore.
What ticks me off, can’t figure out what I did right.

60 anonamiss September 28, 2012 at 4:09 PM

I hate loud stereo’s blaring (C)rap music that contains more profanity and misogynistic hatred than a jail cell full of thugs. I have a child in my car and the lyrics are more than pathetic!! They must send in 4 box tops for their profound lyrics!! (sarcasm)
I also hate when people use their cell phones and talk so loudly you know every intimate detail about their lives………

61 Chuckie the Troll September 28, 2012 at 4:26 PM

The guy down the street that blows his air horn (don’t know if it is hand-held or mounted to his vehicle) during the day for no apparent reason. That horn should be placed into a dark tight space.

66 Anon September 28, 2012 at 5:00 PM

People who talk with food in their mouths, or speak English so badly food in their mouths would be an improvement.

People who chew with their mouths open, yuck, they should be caned on their first offense. The best way to replicate the sound is to toss a Big Mac into a toilet and use a plunger on it for ten minutes.

67 SanDee September 28, 2012 at 5:06 PM

@Ugh
After reading your post: I don’t have anything to complain about, in comparison to that.
Oh my gosh, how do you stand it?

68 MO September 28, 2012 at 5:20 PM

Well I don’t like that screeching from amplified guitars…wangy wangy wangy…so I don’t put my SiriusXM radio on any station that has that kind of music. (I think I was more tolerant when I was younger).

I am annoyed with the sound of a Bull bellering down at the fence in the night time…along with that ”sound” I know that the jerk is going to rip the fence out and go visiting.

And…I have a Wood Pecker who has taken up residence here on an old hollow Oak Tree…(middle of the night, I am so annoyed I could shoot him…but I don’t)….

69 @Ugh September 28, 2012 at 5:52 PM

Have some fun, introduce her to Facebook, Twitter and the rest.
Perhaps, she won’t have time to come to work.

Neighbors that: block the common driveway with their car; adults that argue at the top of their lungs; adults that scream at their kids; basketball standard that blocks common driveway; dog that dumps on my lawn; washes garden debris from one side of driveway to my side of driveway.

All the same neighbor by the way!

71 it's just gotta be.... September 28, 2012 at 6:25 PM

them knuckle dragging microphallic morons tooling around in their ridiculous looking ghettomobiles with bass boosters reverbing the whole neighborhood…I even see these mutants delivering their offspring to school while blasting out some unintelligible jungle rumbling….

72 anonamiss September 28, 2012 at 6:26 PM

anon @ 62, Hey it’s a an amped up joke. The mayor asks us what noises drive us crazy and we get to answer. There are plenty of people here who need to calm down, even the ones that hate the sounds of birds and nature when outside. Have a great weekend. I’m getting plenty!! Ha ha……

Cars that sound like weed wackers.

76 Speak Up September 28, 2012 at 7:41 PM

“People whose cars honk when they lock the doors. Really? You can’t hear that it has locked?”
They can’t hear the door lock, their ghetto blaster on wheels has made them hard of hearing. Some are so far gone they need to see the car lights flash to know the system is armed.

77 Feckin Irish Mouse September 28, 2012 at 8:30 PM

My Ghetto neighbors tv/stereo that blast thru m walls. I don’t not want to hear what you are watching or listening to (which is why I’m looking into sound proofing)…………..and the HOA whose response to mhy compalint is “there is nothing we can do”…..BS!!!!! Also said Mama Ghetto has only one vocal volume……..LOUD!!!!!!!!!!!!! Another neighbor and I refer to her as the “Yeti” and she is always screachig like a Yeti

78 martinezdad September 28, 2012 at 8:40 PM

People revving their motorcycles at 3am for no reason as they cruise down a residential street. Makes me want to get out the piano wire

79 Mika September 28, 2012 at 8:55 PM

Crows. They’re everywhere in this county. They make a lot of noise, not pleasant.

80 Anon September 28, 2012 at 9:09 PM

martinezdad,
I had heard a rumor that Martinez was more strict about loud motorcycles. Shoot off an email to a city counsel member or maybe call Police so they won’t get lax on this.
There’s not much going on in Martinez at night so these obnoxious bikes aren’t too hard to catch.

81 AnonyMrs. September 28, 2012 at 10:09 PM

Agree with others about the loud bass music coming from people’s cars, why do others have to be subjected to what your listening to, ugh. People at work eating crunchy things, especially baby carrots & chips, chewing gum, people who talk too loud and all the time and have thier music on speaker at work, again I don’t want to listen to it. And finally the elephant sounds of my upstairs neighbors walking, running or what sounds to me like some sort of sumo match.

90 Generator Hater September 29, 2012 at 4:22 PM

The loud generators at Concord Community Park every weekend. Sure they power those cute little bounce houses, but they make the park sound like a construction site. Wish Concord would ban them like Walnut Creek did last year.
