MonicaH May 30, 2012 at 8:53 PM

On Claudia at N. 6th, sounded like it was on Ida. (Concord) shook the windows.

Boomtown May 30, 2012 at 8:53 PM

BFD! May 30, 2012 at 8:55 PM

It was a mortar type firework. Nothing to see here, move along.

Yolanda May 30, 2012 at 8:55 PM

I heard a boom about 45 minutes ago. I live in North Concord. It sounded like it was some distance away. (Not as loud or close as the last one I heard several weeks ago). Hard to judge, but it sounded like it was coming from the direction of downtown Concord.

Concord Resident May 30, 2012 at 8:55 PM

I heard it 8:39 PM – corner of Claycord and Olive

Melissa May 30, 2012 at 8:55 PM

Claudia and Olivera. Very loud. Shook whole house and the trees in my backyard.

Susan case May 30, 2012 at 8:56 PM

We’re off Court Lane (treat and cowell). We’re bar b q ing and heard it louder than usual at 8:37. Probably another m80… Someone does this all the time. Getting used to it and not so scared anymore.

RanchgirlCA May 30, 2012 at 8:56 PM

Salvio, by the library. Enough already.

MtzMom May 30, 2012 at 8:56 PM

Ms. Mom May 30, 2012 at 8:56 PM

Carlos May 30, 2012 at 8:57 PM

MzKimbo May 30, 2012 at 8:57 PM

I live on Granada and I heard it. I was standing in my back yard, it sounded like It came from the willow pass park area

Toocool4u May 30, 2012 at 8:57 PM

And it will be brushed off as gunfire. . What’s the real cause behind these booms? We may never know … Until its too late

Girl w/ dog May 30, 2012 at 8:57 PM

Didn’t hear it this time! by CVHS

JWright May 30, 2012 at 8:57 PM

I heard it. It was loud and with a long echo.

Insert Sillyname May 30, 2012 at 8:58 PM

I’m a block from CVHS, heard it loud and clear.

Grant/Frederick May 30, 2012 at 8:59 PM

Heard it here and it sounded like it was next door.

No Excuses May 30, 2012 at 9:00 PM

Remember the really big one a couple of months ago that those of us in Holbrook zeroed in on as having come from around Holbrook Pool area? Well this one was twice as loud. I think I heard a wall crack behind me!

No Excuses May 30, 2012 at 9:01 PM

Oh, and yes JWright is correct, this one did have a long echo.

noncexstanza May 30, 2012 at 9:01 PM

Anyone know what it was? I didn’t hear it here in Martinez but I’ve read this wasn’t the first loud boom and I have family in Concord.

Killjoy May 30, 2012 at 9:01 PM

Don’t hear a thing. Near Clayton Rd and El Camino.

Anon May 30, 2012 at 9:01 PM

Live on Citrus Ave in Walnut Creek – heard it loud and clear !

Killjoy May 30, 2012 at 9:02 PM

Should have said “Didn’t” hear a thing. LOL

D May 30, 2012 at 9:02 PM

Yup Port Chicago and Olivera– Thinking Willow Pass Park — same as usual — not happy about it but getting used to them (sadly)

Antler May 30, 2012 at 9:02 PM

Near Concord Boulevard and Bailey Road. Sounded dull like dynamite and seemed to be southwest of here (maybe coming from over toward Clayton Road and Denkinger intersection….one of those neighborhoods).

MRL May 30, 2012 at 9:04 PM

Heard it in N. Concord/Holbrook Heights neighborhood. Scared the the you-know-what out of my dogs.

This is getting old.

anon May 30, 2012 at 9:04 PM

Heard it on Bailey.

I’m 99% sure it’s some kids playing with home made stuff. Making a loud boom isn’t hard to do.

It’s most likely acetylene balloons. They make a lot of noise and very little damage. If you’ve worked in a shop you should know about them.

Beans May 30, 2012 at 9:06 PM

I certainly heard something after having chili for dinner.

anon May 30, 2012 at 9:06 PM

Heard it here by cvhs, I don’t even get fazed by them anymore!

Robles May 30, 2012 at 9:07 PM

Heard it over off Pine Hollow Rd.

Clayton May 30, 2012 at 9:08 PM

Missed it, darn quail havin’ a loud party out in the garden.

Loving life May 30, 2012 at 9:09 PM

BoomBoom goes the neighborhood!

kj#2 May 30, 2012 at 9:09 PM

We heard it off of west st even the squirrels got scared !Im thinking dooms day preppers doing a practice drill!

DebPH May 30, 2012 at 9:09 PM

I don’t know about a boom, but does anyone know about the Haz Mat cleaning on Pleasant Hill? I was on Oak Blvd and one of the cross streets had 2 haz mat spil trucks, fully equiped people on suits and masks, cops…the whole 9 yards…cleaning something…it looked like it was a house?!?! scary!

Canterbury Village Resident May 30, 2012 at 9:10 PM

Loud and clear here in Canterbury. This one actually seemed significantly louder than the most recent ones.

concordian May 30, 2012 at 9:11 PM

We heard it on top of Ridge Drive

Garden Momma May 30, 2012 at 9:12 PM

State streets closer to Circle K heard it

T May 30, 2012 at 9:15 PM

Beechwood Drive

what the heck May 30, 2012 at 9:15 PM

Let Rover Take Over May 30, 2012 at 9:15 PM

Heard it over here off West and Chestnut!!!

Mimi (original) May 30, 2012 at 9:17 PM

Heard it off Denkinger and Clayton Rds. Thot it was odd.

Blah May 30, 2012 at 9:18 PM

Heard it from the Dana plaza parking lot on concord and landana

health dept May 30, 2012 at 9:18 PM

Get over it

LMS May 30, 2012 at 9:22 PM

Heard it loud and clear on Richard Ave. These fireworks or whatever are getting pretty old!!!

Ancient Mariner May 30, 2012 at 9:23 PM

Rancho Diablo, Pleasant Hill.

MonicaH May 30, 2012 at 9:25 PM

Maybe it’s like this incident across the country

Traci May 30, 2012 at 9:30 PM

I have never heard these booms, but I have heard from people that they are detinating ammunition, etc, in the old naval yard.

Han Solo May 30, 2012 at 9:30 PM

Just me switching to warp drive.

Silvia May 30, 2012 at 9:31 PM

I was visiting my friends who live on Fitzpatrick and it was veeery loud. It was in the next door backyard. Very scary…some measurements should be taken.

6 votes for Olive Garden May 30, 2012 at 9:33 PM

I am guessing this is just a warm-up for July 4th.

mizithra May 30, 2012 at 9:35 PM

sorry ate at OSF again. Up all night too

not available May 30, 2012 at 9:40 PM

I heard it. Swore that it was right outside my house and I live between grant street and the hospital. CRAZINESS! and i don’t like it. :/

uh huh May 30, 2012 at 9:48 PM

Seems like every other night there is some explosion sound. Just another day in paradise..

Joe May 30, 2012 at 9:48 PM

there were news reports of loud booms in other states just about a month or two ago, and people in those states got no explaination. concord is right next to a suposedly closed military base. I’m sure there is nothing going on over there….wink wink

anon May 30, 2012 at 9:53 PM

for those playing with acetylene be advised that once it goes above 15psi it can self destruct.

Don’t loose your thumbs, or die.

Always Right May 30, 2012 at 9:54 PM

Another liberal watched Fox News on a dare. Head exploded. Happens every time.

D May 30, 2012 at 9:54 PM

@Monica #52 — that is very interesting – I am not liking the thought of someone shooting a high powered rifle anywhere in the area .. If that is what it takes to set of a charge..

Beacon May 30, 2012 at 9:55 PM

Is it really that difficult to narrow down where this is happening? This is a large explosion. You would know if it happened next door.

On another note, right after the explosion, the leafhoppers invaded my garage. Could it be related? Was it a leafhopper bomb? 🙂

MAD MOM May 30, 2012 at 9:57 PM

We heard it in Ho;brook area. My husband saw the flash. Somewhere off of Esperanza or Willow Pass. Car alarms were blaring!

why May 30, 2012 at 10:01 PM

are no govt. agencies checking this out or saying anything?
In FL people are hearing what sounds like a train running under the ground with shaking an all. interesting that this sort of thing is happening on each coast.

Kathi Owens May 30, 2012 at 10:06 PM

So what was the mayors big jaw dropping news looked for it on claycord but to no avail

Hockeymom May 30, 2012 at 10:11 PM

In Pine Hollow neighborhood…didn’t hear this one.

Local Musician May 30, 2012 at 10:12 PM

Has anyone who personally heard it called the police before jumping on Claycord?
Maybe a bunch of matching reports would get some interest from the law…

MAD MOM May 30, 2012 at 10:12 PM

Considering there was a flash, I believe that some morons are setting off some pretty high explosives to get their rocks off..I love the Holbrook neighborhood but there are a lot of thugs in the area. So sad.

WTH? May 30, 2012 at 10:14 PM

Yep, heard it LOUD and clear. I’m in Bishop Estates off Concord Blvd., and was just getting back from a walk with the dog and BOOM! Dog heard it too. Sure wish there were some answers to what the heck is going on!

Confire Auntie May 30, 2012 at 10:19 PM

Heard it and felt it by Hillcrest park

hankster May 30, 2012 at 10:21 PM

Loud but distant. Live just West of Cowell Park. Our dog, who hates fireworks, was lounging in the backyard – he noticed but wasn’t scared.

It's the terrorist! May 30, 2012 at 10:24 PM

Off kirker pass…..totally heard it.

Watch Dog May 30, 2012 at 10:31 PM

I live near Willow Pass and Parkside and it was loud her almost sounded like more then one. Maybe just the echo. I happened to be looking out the window when it happened and it sounded like it came from Mt. Diablo High School area or possibly further that direction towards the Drive Inn.

funny man May 30, 2012 at 10:35 PM

“Underneath most major cities, especially in the USA in fact, there exist subterranean counterpart ‘cities’ controlled by the Masonic/hybrid/alien ‘elite’. Often surface/subsurface terminals exist beneath Masonic Lodges, police stations, airports and federal buildings of major cities … and even not so ‘major’ cities. The population ratio is probably close to 10% of the population (the hybrid military-industrial fraternity ‘elite’ living below ground as opposed to the 90% living above). This does not include the full-blood reptilian species who live in even deeper recesses of the Earth.” from
i propse to you good ppl, their is a war in our backyard, we may want to develop the old navy base but our repitlian overloards may not give up the land so easily
why are the booms only coming from north concord?
why isnt the city at all care about these supposedly alleged ‘fireworks’ when im sure their are many complaints to the PD and city itself?
too many unanswered questions, tinfoiler can you inlighten us?

Kristen May 30, 2012 at 10:37 PM

Here’s the weird thing-I am in Pleasant Hill and didn’t HEAR anything…but SAW a crazy large blimp-looking light filled thing with one blue light on the side. It looked either HUGE or really close. It was big and bright enough to catch the corner of my eye while riding my bike really fast in the opposite direction. It was so fascinating I chased it on my bike for a while, through Strandwood Elementary, up a big hill and out to the street on the other side. As I got closer it got smaller and starting moving off into the distance and the light on the side turned red. Then it was gone.
I called my friend who came to this website to see if anyone else saw..
Wonder what could do that?..

makanake. May 30, 2012 at 10:42 PM

Iwas driving in willow pass caming from baypoint.and.with my windows car down no music radio off and . heard a.bigger boom.but same time isaw lighting in the next to.the railroad inside the naval weapons maybe some other persons me.and my wife.but if there’s someone who’s work inside the naval maybe cab explain more about it.for everyone.

DZL May 30, 2012 at 10:55 PM

Does light turn red as it moves away from you? Can something moving really fast make a loud noise?

Babs May 30, 2012 at 11:12 PM

just heard one behind our house in the park…Concord high…kids laughing so just called 911…waiting to see if I hear cops coming.

my son called the other day because he found needles at the tree line next to the fence.

It’s a mixed issue…if we ask that the trees be thinned out so the teenagers can’t hide and do crap in them then we will also hear more Concord Blvd street noise. I’m a night owl and I sleep with my window open but I have the TV on and sometimes a fan….so even tho I’m that close I miss some of the booms. Plus I swear the noise travels around the house from the high school side to my side….

My buddy Antler and I live pretty close to each other and we hear different things….very strange…..GoGo says bottle rockets sometimes and I swear sound like gun fire.

well, I hear a serious voice and no more laughing…did not hear a cop car tho….

mileena May 31, 2012 at 1:49 AM

Why are Concord residents always imagining strange sounds?? We in Pleasant Hill never hear loud booms.

Sinn Feiner May 31, 2012 at 4:55 AM

It’s the IRA testing out their new bombs on the Naval Weapons Station property. Getting ready to ship them back to Belfast.

Antler May 31, 2012 at 5:28 AM

Beacon at #64 ~ ~ ~ OH, NOOOOOOOOOOO. The leafhoppers are back already?????? Thanks so much for jogging my memory that I need to get the kitchen window screen repaired.

i was hoping it was pleasant hill recycling blown up they are such rip offs

anon May 31, 2012 at 7:55 AM

As a kid I would have done this just to see how fast it would be posted on Claycord and how many people had heard it. Just adds to the fun.

KenInConcord May 31, 2012 at 8:20 AM

Finally the Government Drones have been armed!!! I believe they were shooting at several 32oz sweet drinks spotted outside the 7-11 on Olivera Road.

I live near KMART, and so far I haven’e heard any of this bog booms.

ConcordMama May 31, 2012 at 8:38 AM

I’m across from farm beau rd and I heard it this is the 2nd one with in weeks. Wonder what is going on.

N. Concordian May 31, 2012 at 8:43 AM

I saw the resulting smoke cloud from the device. It was an aerial mortar (firework) from the north end of Ida, Meadowbrook, or Claudia, by 6th street.

Stacie May 31, 2012 at 8:52 AM

I live in Northwood Circle and heard it. Living by the refinery is oh so fun.

Mrs. A May 31, 2012 at 8:58 AM

Heard it at exactly 8:40 pm, I live on Acacia which is off P. Chicago in N. Concord and it scared the living crap out of my dog yet again. Didn’t see any flash or anything just heard the big boom.

Bishop Estates May 31, 2012 at 10:19 AM

BIG BOOM……Concord Blvd & Bishop

ANNON May 31, 2012 at 10:44 AM

Spoke to someone in the city office, they were going to do some investigating,I could not remember all the dates that explosions have taken place, but they were going to check on Claycord, and speak with Mike Wright, who is working on the Reuse of CNWS. I hear people call in, over the scanner, so I know they are being reported, just not located, which seems strange to me, since they are loud and seem to vibrate. Anyway maybe we will get some answers or they will find the source of this energy.

Some Guy May 31, 2012 at 10:48 AM

LOL! yeah, they’re detonating old ammo at the navel weapons station! Yer killin me!
Saw the one before this. From experience using them I’m satisfied its commercial grade fireworks.

Mac May 31, 2012 at 11:27 AM

Think it is a few kids with M-1000`s
And they just love seeing that they continue to get posts put in here about them.
They think it`s cool to scare the old timers.
And they laugh at how many times it`s mentioned in here

Kathy May 31, 2012 at 11:34 AM

Concord Blvd. near Concord High School. The dog was in the back yard and just as we heard the boom she started barking and wanted in the house.

Mac May 31, 2012 at 12:33 PM

It`s going to be tough to catch them in the act.
Because it is thrown from a moving car most of the time.
So by the time the blast goes off.
The car is blocks away.

All that can be seen is the bright light and smoke.

Unless someone sees what car it is thrown from.
There is no way to catch them.

jmz May 31, 2012 at 12:33 PM

Did not hear anything…Live in N Concord 🙂

mileena May 31, 2012 at 12:44 PM

Exactly. It is just kids with fireworks. I don’t know why everyone get all strung up about it.

Annon May 31, 2012 at 12:44 PM

Some of you laugh this off as kid stuff, well I do not find it funny, and if you are parents of these adorable wannabee hoodlums you are just as responsible. HAHA thrown from car…or kids having good time scarring old timers….wait until someone is hurt or worse, or a house is lost from fire. You adults out there need to be responsible……if you see kids doing this turn them in, Fireworks, m1,000s dynamite is illegal……DO YOU REALLY THINK THIS IS A JOKE HATE TO SEE FOURTH OF JULY. And if you are on my street and I see you I will call the police. We just installed security cameras so hopefully you will be caught in the act. LOL

chris May 31, 2012 at 2:35 PM

Yea fireworks are only illegal in Cali , Cali sucks and you all should get a life and leave it to the authorities

Robin Gibson May 31, 2012 at 5:05 PM

We heard it and felt it. Live Hwy.242/Grant St./Solano Way

Smokey May 31, 2012 at 5:05 PM

I live near Concord Blvd and Bailey. I not only heard it, but I felt it. If this happened in Holbrook Heights, we’re not talking about kids and fireworks. Someone set off a bomb.

Annon. May 31, 2012 at 7:28 PM

Smokey…..Thank You …A voice of intelligence…….

Yolanda May 31, 2012 at 8:09 PM

“Here’s the weird thing-I am in Pleasant Hill and didn’t HEAR anything…but SAW a crazy large blimp-looking light filled thing with one blue light on the side.”

I’m not certain if this is what you saw, but I work in Pleasant Hill, and my co-worker pointed out a blimp in the sky near our office. It was white with a light blue stripe on the side. It also had some writing, but I couldn’t quite make all of it out. I believe one of the words was “Vistas”. I thought it might be adversing a housing track or new apartments in the area. I wonder if this was the same thing you saw last night.

Melissa s May 31, 2012 at 9:01 PM

I live off north sixth in concord I hurd the blast ad it set off car alarms going off and dogs hella barking.hurd it over my music secend time twice now.someones haven fun c how long that lasts before u get caught!!!!!!!

MonicaH May 31, 2012 at 9:18 PM

For those people who think Concord Naval Weapons base is “closed”, only parts of it are closed other parts are still active.

Current operations
In 2008 control of the site was changed. The Inland Area became a Detachment of the Naval Weapons Station Seal Beach, pending ultimate closure. The Tidal Area was transferred to the U.S. Army Surface Deployment and Distribution Command (SDDC) and is now known as Military Ocean Terminal Concord (MOTCO). This facility was also used by the Diablo Squadron and Training Ship Concord of the United States Naval Sea Cadet Corps

Heard it for the last 3 nights about 8:30 or 9:00 P.M. Live near the airport. It scares my pets and it scares me! Sure am tired of it. Why can’t this mystery be solved?
