A Concord based non-profit organization called Books for the Barrios celebrated their 14 millionth donation to Filipino children this past January.
Books for the Barrios has been active in the Philippines since 1981 when United States Navy families who were stationed in the Philippines started the book donation project. Books for the Barrios was founded by Dan Harrington and his wife Nancy Stowe Harrington, who met in late 1960′s in the Philippines, according to the Manila Bulletin Publishing Corporation.

Love this place and what they do! Thank you Harringtons for providing books to those who would otherwise go without.
I happened to meet the Harringtons last year while on jury duty. Both very nice people and very serious about their non-profit organization. They’ve done a lot of good work over the years and should be commended for their efforts (have they received the Jefferson award yet, if not they should get it).
I didn’t know about this organization until I saw your post, Mr. Mayor. Thanks! I just checked out their website. It looks like they have a good program going on.
Is opening comments on this post wise? Judging from the posts on other threads alot of your reader have never even opened a book in there lives!
I for one like these feelgood fluff pieces! Its nice to know some people aren’t just looking out for #1 all the time.
I had the pleasure of meeting Dan while I was on duty in the area. This guy is awesome. Truly and guy with a high level of integrity and a can do attitude. Great guy. Keep it up DH.
Thanks for posting this. I have lots of things to donate to them and will be doing so very soon.

They take computers (PC only) and (a lot of) other stuff too. See the (long) list at the above link.
Thank you for posting this. I can’t wait to make some donations.
Glad to see all my text books over the years are going to a good cause. Thanks!
I met Dan about 15 years ago. Great guy, Still doing great work. Please help if you can!
looks like a legitimate non-proft. its always interesting to look some of them up and see what the employees/directors are making. recently looked up arf and was rather shocked to see what the director was making.
