UPDATE: Missing Wallet – Anybody Find it on Monday Afternoon?

February 29, 2012 13:51 pm · 26 comments

A Claycordian lost her wallet on Monday and she hoping somebody in the community found it and wants to return it.

Here’s what she wrote….

I was at Luigi’s Deli in Concord (across the street from Bart) on Monday around lunch time and may have left my wallet on one of the tables inside. Management says that no one turned anything in. I still cannot find it and was wondering if you have gotten any emails regarding it. I don’t expect a post on Claycord, but if someone happens to pick it up, could you please let me know? It’s a Liz Claiborne tan wallet. My California Driver’s License doesn’t have my current address- it has my address in Washington state from when I was stationed there.

If you found it, email us at news@claycord.com and we’ll get you in touch with the owner.

UPDATE: The wallet has been found!

Here’s an update from the owner….

Through the magic of Facebook my wallet was returned! The young man tried searching for me on Facebook but since my profile is private, he was not able to find me. He then chanced sending a message to someone with the same last name, and luckily that person was my brother! He found the wallet underneath a bush by the gas station next to Luigi’s. All my cards and ID were there but the cash was gone. That’s a given, but I’m glad I got everything else back. Thank you Zack!

Great to hear! Good job, Zack!

My Daughter found a wallet last year with nearly $500 in it.
Her FIRST and only thought was to find the owner.
Later that night, as she handed it back to him, I had one of
those “Dad” moments I will always cherish.
Hopefully, someone with Integrity found it and returns it.

I was shopping at Macy’s in Walnut Creek a few years back and found a designer purse hanging up on a rack of blouses by the same designer. I thought it was odd that the purse wasn’t accompanied by a manikin so I picked it up. It was full (wallet, make-up, etc.). Somebody apparently left it hanging there when looking through the clothes on the rack. I immediately brought the purse to the clerks working behind the cash register. I sure hope they did the right thing and contacted the owner. Hopefully, somebody honest found the wallet the Claycordian lost a few days ago and will find a way to return it to her. In the meantime, she should be sure to cancel any credit cards, debit cards and apply for a new driver license at the DMV.

Thanks for lunch and check Luigi’s trash. Might still be there.

I hope you get it back!

When I find items in a store I don’t just turn it over to a clerk (who know’s what they might do with it) I contact the owner direct if there is I.D.

Anon @5,

I hope your kidding.

It sounds as if the owner of the missing wallet was or is in the military.

“My California Driver’s License doesn’t have my current address- it has my address in Washington state from when I was stationed there.”

I really hope someone finds the wallet and tries to find the owner.

Why oh why do women insist on leaving their wallet/purse in shopping carts, on tables, in cars, etc. When was the last time anyone saw a man leave HIS wallet in a shopping cart? PLEASE, ladies, keep your valuables in a safe place, and shopping carts or tables aren’t safe..

always a good idea to check the garbage cans in the area after losing a wallet, most thieves just take the cash/cards n discard the evidence quickly leaving your treasured photos etc behind

Call the Concord police station, hopefully someone turned it in there.

I’ve found lots of things over the years. Cell phones seem to be attracted to me and I always return them. @Anon2 – That story about the purse is wild!

Someone dropped a quarter on BART once and I picked it up to hand to them. They assumed I was going to keep it and gave me the nastiest look, which turned to embarrassment as I handed the quarter to them. I understand their initial reaction though, sad to say.

@Screwy Louie
Sounds like your Daughter hit the Parent lottery.

I agree with “G”! Great job Dad! Those moments make up for everything.
As far as purses in shopping carts, I have posted many times to use the baby seat latches to latch in your purse straps but STILL never look away for more than a few seconds

@Anon #9
Men may not leave their wallets or purses in shopping carts. But, once about 25 years ago, I was shopping the bulk foods in the Safeway on Oak Park Blvd. in Pleasant Hill. I returned to my shopping cart and found out that some man had left a picture of a particular part of his anatomy in my cart. There was no point trying to find the owner of the picture so I calmly placed my bag of raisins on top of it. I continued with my shopping but decided to discreetly slip the picture into my purse as I approached the checkout. I was thinking that Safeway was probably going to try to scan the photo and charge me for it. I probably should have reported the incident to the police. Talk about a closet flasher. I watched my rearview mirror all the way home to make sure I wasn’t being followed.

Hope you find it. We have never had much luck having things returned to us although we always return others lost items. I found a very nice, VERY expensive brand name purse that was VERY heavy for it’s size. I turned it in to the store who opened it and found it packed with Filet Mignon and a matching wallet and a iphone.

Good Karma — so glad the wallet was returned to the rightful owner! There is hope for the world :-)

I am glad to see you got your wallet back, there are some honest and caring people out there, great job Zac! I think it is total BS for the person who found the wallet and took the cash and threw the wallet in the bushes, what a loser, get a life! You would get alot more satisfaction out of life if you did like Zac did going out of his way to find the owner of the wallet and give everything back!

I didn’t find a wallet but was pumping gas and went to put my trash from my car in the garbage and sitting on top of the garbage was a driver’s license, school I.D. card, bus pass, and a couple other I.D. cards. I grabbed what was on top and mailed it to the kid at the address on the card. Threw in a note telling him where I found it along with my phone number. A couple days later he actually called me to say thank you. Missed his called but it put a smile on my face when I heard his grateful message. What comes around goes around.

Sweet that the wallet was found and returned.

Years ago I found a wallet at Kinko’s so full of cash & credit cards it wouldn’t hardly close. I handed it to a young clerk behind the counter instead of contacting the owner myself. To this day I do not know if the guy ever got his wallet back let alone all the cash & cards. I learned from that lesson to always contact he owner myself and I have done so after other instances. It’s a very rewarding feeling to see the excitment on the faces when items are returned that they thought were lost forever. :)

21 Don't be too sure! March 1, 2012 at 10:21 AM

Unfortunately in this world you still have to be a little skeptical about things….it is a very common practice for some thieves to still a wallet and then call the owner and say they found it and will meet them to return or even return it in person with all credit cards inside so that the victim assumes everything is ok….but in actuality, it is a scam that thief pulls in hopes that the victim does not report the cards lost or stolen and therefore they are able to use the cards (which they have copied all the info from by now along with identity info off license) until the victim is the wiser. By then, many purchases have been made…just sayin’

I love reading stories like that. We often read about negative stuff on this blog and in the media as a whole, so it’s nice to reminded about the vast majority of people who are good.

I know what you mean. Fortunately/unfortunately, I’d guess that items found on store property have to be turned over to its people. (Anything involving a wallet, purse, I’d check for ID. And if I can research and find the owner, I’d let them know where it is.)

24 Danielle March 1, 2012 at 2:43 PM

we need more honest people in the world like that. I’m so happy there are some that are local! Karma….need I say more…?

25 Nom de Plume March 1, 2012 at 6:43 PM

So great that the wallet was found and returned.

It’s better to be cautious if someone calls to meet you. Probably best to turn it into the police, watch them inventory the contents of the wallet (if they let you do that) and keep a copy of the police report. If it goes unclaimed, after 90 days or so you can claim it. That way you are a good citizen doing the right thing but if no one comes forward to claim that misplaced drug money maybe you can keep it!

I agree that turning found property in to a sales clerk is risky. You don’t know how honest they are. I found what looked like a diamond tennis bracelet and turned it in to a clerk. As soon as I handed it to her and saw the look on her face, I realized it would probably never reach the owner. I called back a few days later to check on the status and was told “what bracelet?” So sad.
