>Concord’s State-of-the-City Speech is now available online.
Concord Mayor Ron Leone read the speech during a luncheon last month, and added a few comments of his own, including announcing his home phone number, and telling the crowd that his son is looking for a job.
He also recognized a few people in the crowd, including the City Manager, City Attorney, fellow City Council Members, the Police Chief and Captain David Downing (even though Downing wasn’t in attendance). He forgot to mention Concord’s other Police Captain, Dan Siri.
The last two-thirds of the speech focused on Concord.

Is Ron Leone still getting his health insurance paid for by the Mt. Diablo Health Care District? Isnt that a life-time perk? So what will happen when the Mt. Diablo Health Care District is disbanded – if it ever get’s disbanded? Will the Board of Supervisors pay for his and Grace Ellis’s health insurance out of their general fund?
to annie2u: No, Ron Leone is not still getting his health insurance from the Mt. Diablo Health Care District. He publicly announced that he was stopping that. There was already a vote last month to disband the district.
Mentioning one police captain but not the other…that was definitely a faux pas….
Correction is needed…..technically Mt.D. is still paying for his lifetime health care…just paying it thru the City of Concord. Yes, it is lifetime and yes, whatever agency takes over is stuck with this amount for life.
I feel he is being misleading how he is stating the facts…it’s just getting shifted around….bottom line is Mt. D . is paying for it.
Thanks ChampagneKitty.
I read somewhere that he didn’t address the fact that the Mt. Diablo HCDistrict was still paying for his portion of the deductable.
Annie@U….your were right the first time. Champaign Kitty is wrong…
And it whoever is the successor agency will inherit this payment, too…so somehow the remaining money will have to be held for these payments and not used for something else.
Correction, it isn’t that Champaign Kitty is wrong, she just believed his story.!!!! I miss stated that, sorry. This topic just ticks me off.
What to make of not mentioning Siri ?
Okay, now I’m confused. All I know is that Leone mentioned at a city council meeting is that he would no longer be accepting health care benefits from the District…
The money was moved from Mt.D to the city…so technically he is getting his medical from the city but it actally moved from the agency…..its sneaky.
sneaky what no come on all these guys are on the up and up and all. I mean corruption in concord what say it aint so….just like the ones who say the bums are out of control not an issue just throw some cah on the ground at mcdonalds and maybe a few bottles of whiskey in their direction and they dont bother you as well as the 2-3 robberies at gun point a day in claycord and now shootings but no worries pretty soon concord will adopt the occupy program to roust out the small businesses and things will get real nice then …feast on ..revel in your elected officials and their glory…..let corruption and crime and scum embrace our city and all it glory and we shall all be free to thank all the elected and appointed officials as they run north for oregon and washington. What a country what a city what a croc…enjoy
@ Babs…sneaky for a normal person…BAU for a politician
Okay, now I understand about Leone and his benefits. Thank you, Babs! So, um, apparently the Mayor “misspoke” when he said what he did.
I asked Lisa V, CC Times about Leone’s healthcare a while back. I too thought that if the MDHD was disbanded he would not get the lifetime benefits. Wrong, he will, as well as his family. I believe they get both health and dental care.
I attended the luncheon he spoke at. I was pleasantly surprised by his speech, even though I am not a fan of his. I had to wonder, while the whole room was applauding him throughout the speech, if they all were aware he was screwing taxpayers with his free lifetime care, and if they were aware he broke so many rules during his campaign for city council.
How quickly people forget or overlook things like this in the world of politics.
Is it just me… or is there just a bit of a perception problem here, with the “Hilton” podium. In a time of budget problems, recession, and general austerity, presenting from “The Hilton” just doesn’t look right. Personally I can look past it but it just excites the small government fanatics and is a bit of a political gaffe. For example he could have presented from a more ordinary setting, or even just a podium that doesn’t say “The Hilton” on it…
