>Happy Friday to all the wonderful citizens in the City of Claycord.
This is a post with no subject, you can talk about whatever you want. If breaking news happens (such as an earthquake), or you hear about something newsworthy, feel free to post it here.

There isn’t really any good news to talk about. If there was, Radar would have all the coverage and it would already be posted to this website!
Happy Friday! It looks like we will have lovely spring weather this weekend. A good time to get out and get some yard work done!
The weather is gorgeous!! Even though we need the rain. Amidst societal and world chaos, try and have a safe and wonderful weekend everyone!!!
The weather is awesome today!
Wondering if anyone knows what is going to happen to the old Safeway in Pleasant Hill on Golf club? Are they going to tear down that whole center?
Did anyone see the flying objects reported last night by the previous “Talk About Whatever”
Remember the pig in the shopping cart story? Get this one. Was shopping at PH Target today with my son. He was riding in the cart. We were about to check out and out of nowhere, he vomited all over himself and the cart. A manager named Amanda saw it and was very helpful getting him a bag and some paper towels. My reaction was to wheelh out and get him in the car. She took me to a closed register and quickly rang me up. I told her I’d like to use the cart to get him to the car and asked what I should do with it then, suggesting even that I roll it back to the store. She said, “Oh, just park it with the carts. If they see it’s dirty, they’ll clean it.” Really?????? Disgusting!!!!
We definitely need the rain, but enjoy the Spring-like weather in the meantime! Looks like a lot of us will be planting our vegetable gardens perhaps a month earlier than normal this year. Have a good weekend!
Dear Wife,
The weather is here, wish you were beautiful.
Did anyone attend the CV Charter HS board meetings on Wednesday (Feb 22)? Just wondering how the meeting went and what the board ended up voting for/against.
See the article from the Times last week. It appears dear old(72 years old)Helen wants to be appointed to LAFCO (Local Agency Formation Commission). Oh, and she says she lives part-time with a friend in Clayton.

Does this fine weather mean we’ll have a wet March?
Anyone hear about a possible fatality auto accident near De La Salle this afternoon?
@ sold
They are going to restore that lot to pre-Anglo invasion.
Beautiful weather and two days til the Daytona 500!! Woohoo!!! Ahem…sorry.
jkatec,
I didn’t see them. the triangular object sounds like the TR-3B, check it out on google. I’ll be out with my nightvision tonight since they did not Chemtrail today the night sky should be awesome.
Years ago Kelly Johnson, the then head of the Skunk Works, said publicly that we have the ability to bring ET home. Yes, the technology that would blow your mind exists. We are being forced to live in the stone age compared to whats out there.
“It appears dear old(72 years old)Helen Allen wants to be appointed to LAFCO (Local Agency Formation Commission). Oh, and she says she lives part-time with a friend in Clayton.”
Say it ain’t so Joe!!?
Jeez I hope that old windbag doesn’t get elected to ANY position in Contra Costa county ever again. She’s a devious little crone and I trust her as much as I trust the people selling me a cheap, dependable car from Nigeria. Retire already Helen and go away!!!!!!!!!!
jkatec at #6 ~ ~ ~ I just asked my husband about the possibility that Buchanan Field might have a slowly revolving search light of some kind, which might have been tracking across the underside of a cloud layer. (He flew the A4D “Skyhawk” and was also a commercial airline captain.) He says that civilian fields have a very slowly rotating strong beacon with one white and one green light……and that military bases have a beacon with two whites and one green light. The beacons are usually located on top of the control tower. Neither type of field has red lights, but there might be tall communications towers or refinery stacks in the distance with timed-interval beacons beaming red light so as to warn aircraft, and the red lights also could be reflected quite a distance along the underside of clouds. Any such red lights could seem to be part of the white and green pattern coming from Buchanan. And the timed on/off red light at irregular intervals would add to the magical effect.
Well, that’s just our “maybe” on the subject.
Heads up…LOOK OUTSIDE AT THE MOON….NOW!
http://earthsky.org/tonight/venus-jupiter-above-moon-as-darkness-falls-on-february-24
Does anyone know why comments refresh faster on a phone, as opposed to a PC?
Earthshine is illuminating the night side of the moon….get out your binoculars.
That pale glow on the unlit part of a crescent moon is light reflected from Earth. It’s called “earthshine.” Bright moonlight can illuminate an earthly landscape on nights when the moon is full. Likewise, whenever we see a crescent moon, a nearly full Earth appears in the moon’s night sky – and illuminates the lunar landscape. Next time you see a waxing crescent moon after sunset or before sunrise, think about the fact that the sun is just below the horizon.
And when you’ve got that sense of the moon and sun in space, expand your thinking – to include the Earth under your feet. You might get a sense of the sun, shining on Earth’s day side – and see the glow on the unlit portion of the moon for what it really is – sunlight reflected from Earth.
The best things in life are free.
Thanks Shasta – Just looked at 7:48. It is beautiful. Don’t know what I missed at 7:35.
@Shasta Daisy,
Last night, my 7 year old daughter looked at the moon and said, “look mom, it is smiling at me”!
If you find yourself without anything to do tomorrow, head on over to Concord High School, or El Dorado Middle School. 200 student teams will be competing in the Odyssey of the Mind tournament.
I guarantee that watching these amazing kids perform will restore your faith in the youth of this area!
It runs from 8am to 5pm
Shasta Daisy # 19
I took my iPod outside and lined up the moon with the moon in the Star Walk app. Looks pretty cool.
What the hell is a Local Agency Formation Commission and why do we need it? Sounds like a way to funnel desperately-needed city funds to cushy jobs instead of using them to beef up our police departments!
*SIGH*
Was your Husband outside witnessing what the viewer described? Hardly searchlights or weather balloons. But hey, Here’s what we do with weather balloons:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oQmbGMWlL7w
I saw the black mustang driven by a dark hair brunette this evening around 5:ish & they were pulling into the target shopping center in PH. You could tell the driver was tweaking.
I told my kids about it & my son asked why didn’t I take a picture. It would have been obvious, we were at the red lights, waiting on diff sides of the island
commenter at 327 ~ ~ ~ No, my husband was definitely not outside witnessing what the viewer described; he only read what she wrote in the last thread. Then, as a former pilot, he described what it might be because of her position at sighting. He did not use the words “searchlights or weather balloons”. The airports have slowly rotating beacons. Neither of us made any claim whatsoever that my husband was positive what the witness saw, which is the reason I concluded at #18 “Well, that’s just our “maybe” on the subject.”
But at #27 YOU made a definite allegation that the witness saw a phenomenon which was “Hardly searchlights or weather balloons.” Oh, really????? Were YOU outside in the same position as the witness? If so, why did you not bother to speak up on the subject?
I join you in enjoying reports of the “Battle of LA”, which happened back in 1942. The combination of public fear and imagination can produce amazing reactions. One of my favorite descriptions has been reprinted by Wikipedia (which for something like that long ago public panic) is as good as any other reference, I suppose. Quoting: “At 0306 a balloon carrying a red flare was seen over Santa Monica and four batteries of anti-aircraft artillery opened fire, whereupon “the air over Los Angeles erupted like a volcano.” From this point on reports were hopelessly at variance. Probably much of the confusion came from the fact that anti-aircraft shell bursts, caught by the searchlights, were themselves mistaken for enemy planes. In any case, the next three hours produced some of the most imaginative reporting of the war: “swarms” of planes (or, sometimes, balloons) of all possible sizes, numbering from one to several hundred, traveling at altitudes which ranged from a few thousand feet to more than 20,000 and flying at speeds which were said to have varied from “very slow” to over 200 miles per hour, were observed to parade across the skies. These mysterious forces dropped no bombs and, despite the fact that 1,440 rounds of anti-aircraft ammunition were directed against them, suffered no losses.”
above mistake in comment number ….should have been *commenter at #27
hello! and a happy happy Friday to you all!
Nothing on TV…hoping we have another beautiful day of weather tomorrow..worked all week, would love to dig my fingers into our earth and plant some things over the next 2 days! Even if its not really spring, this weeks weather had definatley has given us a happy-me-spring is coming outlook in the house! I can put up with some more cold nights and rainy days, after this min-tease of spring.
Nothing to report up on my hill. nice, quiet, and no more blasting noises of explosions from little mister big bing bang from last week. Maybe whoever was doing that got caught?
Spring Ball is starting, both in Little League- should make for a fun spring at the ballpark!

Accident on 242 right before Clayton Rd exit. Traffic was at stand still. Car was smashed
OK. So all my fellow Claycord community members, what do you think about the following story??
Something really bugged me this morning as I was leaving my house. As I approached the stop sign, a police car was passing by quite slowly and made an illegal u-turn, passing me yet again. I was a little cranky when I saw a “light blue shirt” Intern in the drivers seat. The part that really bugs me though was when I saw that he was chatting away on his cell phone. As a rule, LEO’s are excused from the cell phone law while on duty, but come on…this dude was writing 3-day warnings for a couple of cars. Certainly nothing that warranted bad driving habits while on the cell phone. I remember that it was car #711 he was driving because I really thought about calling to report him. I figured that CPD has bigger fish to fry and dropped the issue. It has been under my skin a bit all day.
What would you think or feel if you saw that happen?
I’m very proud of myself right now. Another anti-gun genius posted a comment on the politics thread, and I nearly got sucked into another rant about “only criminals will have guns” but I resisted the temptation. I think I’ll have a Fresca!
Wikipedia, Really? There’s no rebuttal to someone that depends on Wikipedia as their Gospel.
The Irony, The Military fired THOUSANDS (1000′s) of rounds at these “weather balloons” and weren’t ABLE TO HIT THEM!!!!
I think you should brush up on what’s really been going on:

I just found a great website: Urban Sketchers (www.urbansketchers.org).
They promote on-site drawing (that does not mean tagging!). Their motto is: ‘Show the World, One Drawing at a Time.” They are hosting their third international symposium in Santo Domingo in July where artists can go, meet other artists, and learn new techniques.
My favorite places are where artists live and work — there is a rich, dynamic feel to a city or town that supports the arts. While I am on the subject of local art: I wish more people would go to Gallery Concord, 1765 Galindo St., Concord. It’s open Saturday and Sunday, 11-4. We have some very talented local artists who show (and sell) their work there.
@CJ, I avoid the politics thread like the plague. There’s really nothing for me there but arguments.
I’m a male who works in an office in Martinez & have become close with a female colleague. I think I’ve developed feelings for her, but I don’t feel she feels the same….Any suggestions?
Does anyone know a decent and trustworthy person, that is willing to stay overnight ? We live off Port Chicago and Olivera. We’ve tried boarding several times, but the furr kids are getting older and we would like them to be home. Many thanks.
Beautiful weather is always worth commenting on. Especially when you know the eastern half of the country is probably slogging through ice and snow. (grin)
Now if only I felt like tackling the foot-high weeds that have sprouted in my yard *because* of all this nice weather. Can anyone say Weed Whacker?
@ Looking for a Dog Sitter….. I don’t live to far from you and have four little dogs myself. I completely understand the predicament you face when trying to leave town. I would be willing to speak with you and see if we could arrange something. Not sure how I can exchange information on here without exposing it for everyone else to see as well.
Is is possible Mr. Mayor that you could forward my email address to “Looking for a Dog Sitter”?
@macawlady, that’s why my landscapers are my favorite guys on the planet. I like having a nice yard but I hate yard work with a passion.
Does Concord employ any female police officers aside from Wendy Schwartzenberger and Robin Heinemann? Someone I know got a traffic ticket yesterday in Concord from a female cop but didn’t catch her name & the signature on the citation is undecipherable.
@43 There’s a Krista Sansone (sp?) with CPD. She’s Asian, and married to a Caucasian CPD Officer. The Sansone family goes way back with CPD.
@ Nick #37: I couldn’t agree more! I’m reminded of a quote from an OST episode,(Journey to Babylon), “Some people argue for a reason; Tellarites just argue” –Ambassador Sarek. There should be a “Welcome to the Tellarite embassy” message as you enter the politics thread! But like any good junkie, I can’t resist going there every day, and reading every comment.
Wendy is not an officer and there are a lot of female cops in the PD.
SPORTS NEWS: De La Salle plays tonight for the NCS Soccer D1 Championship vs San Ramon HS. Game time is at 7:30pm at Dublin HS.
This is the 4th consecutive year the Spartans have made it to the final…& this is also a possible 4peat for the championship. And the 10th possible NCS title for the Spartan Soccer Team. Those of you who know soccer this is just an amazing feat.
The Spartans played a hard fought semi-final with the Clayton Valley HS last Wed evening, with a 2-1 win to make the D1 championship.
San Ramon High is a public one. So is Clayton Valley. Like all of their other sports teams DLS pulls from a MUCH, MUCH WIDER student populated area which is an unfair advantage. Why then would their oft-championships be such an amazing feat? Sorry, but the “playing field” is not equal, period. I won’t be there.
@Looking for a dog sitter:
Check out my friend’s page on facebook:
http://www.facebook.com/LaurelsPetAndHouseSitting
She’s in your area and is great with my furkids!!
Anyone know what happened last night 2-24-12 in the apartments on the corner of Golf Club Rd and College Dr by the 7-11? I drove by around 10.00pm last night and there was 7-8 cop cars, an ambulance and a fire truck in the apartment complex’s parking lot. Lots of debris on the ground, all the police were standing around paramedics with a empty stretcher. Haven’t heard or seen anything on the news. Just curious what would draw that kind of a presence by the police.
When is Concord going to get it’s shit together. mayor Cream Puff Leonie start acting a as LEADER , your puppet master is gone all you have to deal with now is the Lessie- Gays, TRY to do your job as a MAN for a change and deal with Concords Issues, F%@k the cops and do what is RIGHT for the citizens, tax payers and those who elected you. GROW some BALLS!.
Cowellian’s First!
I hope everyone is having a great weekend.
DLS #48….apparently you or your family are not interested in competing with the best?
Certainly a mention of a local soccer game between strong high school competitors being posted on a public blog should not draw pathetic condemnation from a slacking whiner ………get a life.
@Nick:
I try to stay off as well. I have a very sensitive BS meter, and sometimes it wins the battle against my better judgment.
@#48:
Let it go. That line of reasoning has been falling on deaf ears since I was in high school in the 80s. They didn’t listen then, they don’t listen now.
@CJ, yep, sounds about right.
I also live over by Mt. Diablo Hosp. and have three dogs. If nothing works out for you, depending upon the amount of care needed, I would be willing to help out.
If we have two or three people who would be willing, we might start an informal dog-sitting collective, as there are always a weekend or two when I’m out of town.

The whole DLS thing is pretty simple in my opinion. It started because as a private school they don’t fall under the same anti-recruitment rules as public schools. At this point it is simply that they have a monstrous athletic program and the most talented kids want to play there. Once they established their dynasty nothing more was needed. Now that their tradition of winning has been established, it will take an act of God to knock them off course. (no pun intended…I know they’re a catholic school)
#48, Ah – the power of Religion and Religious DOGMA.
Have to vent to my fellow Claycordians about my Oakland and SF-dwelling co-workers (who think they are so trendy and hip), who constantly give us grief for living out here in the ‘burbs’. Most of them don’t even know where Mt. Diablo is, but they definitely have strong opinions about what it’s like to live out here. I never make fun of where people live and being from NYC, I can trump those who equate their zipcode with being cool. But it’s so sophomoric to me and I don’t get it. All I know is, we love being out here! Do any of you, my fellow Claycordians, get this kind of lip from people?
@ Don’t Censor Me Bro,
Has She touched you? Does She twirl Her hair? Ha ha, I’m clueless – I even had a Valentines gift sent to a prospect and got shot down.
Working with Her may be bad, if She doesn’t share the same feelings or what if you two get together and it doesn’t work out – You’re $hitting in your own backyard. Get out of the office and meet someone at the bank, grocery store or coffee shop.
Maybe Pleasant Jenny or jkatec can chime in.
These seem to be a general consensus:

I am bringing this over to the correct thread. HONKING. I find it obnoxious and thought it was just an emergency type deal (scare an animal you are about to hit and or help another vehicle out by letting them know you are in their blind spot in their side view mirrors when they want to change lanes) but have been doing so more lately when being behind people at stop lights that turn green and they have to finish their text. I brought it up at the In&Out story as we live very close to the new Pleasant Hill Safeway and I can’t even open my windows in this lovely weather unless I want to hear everyone honking at the person in front of them in the gas line who does not move up as they are too busy texting or even web browsing. I am loving the new Safeway store. Hating the gas station circus. I understand why you have to do it (to keep a texter moving) but I’m hating it.
Judge Roy Bean – Thanks for the update!
DLS’s(sic) A Private School @ 48: “Sorry, but the “playing field” is not equal, period.” If your assertion were true, Carondelet would also be in the championship game for the Girls’ division. But they aren’t.
“I won’t be there.” Good, your whining would disturb everyone else.
Good luck to BOTH teams!
Anyone else tried the new P Hill Safeway yet? Maybe Saturday afternoon was a bad choice, but it’s what we had to work with. Getting around in the parking lot is a bit of a booger. We were driving in the lane, parallel to the front of the building, straight, not indicating a turn… and some self-important elitist snob coming from the opposite direction felt she was entitled to whip her massive SUV across our path, without signalling and with a very dirty look. Thanks to my Mrs’ catlike reflexes, we avoided t-boning the dumbass cow. All so she could get in line to feed her guzzler of a glorified station wagon.
The store is quite a bit bigger, than either the old Golf Club location or the CoCo B store. Lots of produce. Full hot food bar, deli, soup, sushi, pharmacy, bakery, etc. The layout is pretty much what we’re used to, I suppose. Except for fresh produce, which is more up front. I received their coupon book mailer, a few days ago… so we took advantage of the free bread, free soup. $10 off an over $50 purchase and a few other things. The employees were courteous, friendly & helpful. Discovered that US Bank has a mini-branch in there. Oh, there’s a $tarbuck$ in there… for anyone who cares (I don’t). It seemed like all registers were staffed, which will probably diminish a great deal, once all the hoopla subsides.
Something that really bothers me is when shopping at Costco people stop right in the middle of the Isle leave there cart and go get a sample to eat or just to talk to someone.Maybe when they arn’t looking I should move there cart to the next Isle.Dose anybody else have this problem when shopping there.
Way to go Westwood Elementary Odyssey of the Mind “Remo’ers! We are so proud of you. WW placed 5th of 14 schools! Best they have ever done.
Concord High placed 2nd in their division! Way to go Concord High.
El Dorado was fantastic also!
@golfman – I agree with you. I try to stay as far away as possible from the sample food. Too many shopping carts blocking the aisle.
@65: Golfman
Yes it’s annoying. But if that’s your biggest gripe, then life is good! I’m not judging. I complain about the small things too. But I’m working on trying to not let those little things bother me. Let’s be thankful we can afford to shop at Cosco! A lot of people in this country can’t.
@Inquiring Minds Want to Know – Below is the link to the salary database for Contra Costa County. You can select the filter for Concord and dept for Police and find out who works for CPD (as of 2010) and how much they are paid by the taxpayers.
In that year, Robin Heineman was paid about average for a Lieutenant – About $280,000 total compensation.
http://www.mercurynews.com/salaries/bay-area/2010
@Lari: the Old PHart commutes on Bart to SF Civic Center exit and back daily. And he has met many here in our Claycord who do the same with no complaints? Maybe it is an Oakland thing? I know I have a brat niece who lives in Alameda and works in Oakland who is a total snob to our area…maybe I’ll try to pick her brains.
But to “Don’t censor me” I can only tell you that I have two guys that I work with that I so much appreciate and truly love them for how we back each other up in our work duties. I even call them my work husbands and they joke back that they do not get husband “benefits”. But we are all on the same page as far as the rules. I wish I had some awesome advice for you as to how to handle your personal situation but I do not.
As to “Don’t censor me” and Anon #61: Anon #61 THAT was funny
Pleasant Jenny, do I need to repeat my previous rant?
Go for it Nick!
OK, I’ll commit an act of self-plagiarism, but only for PleasantJenny.
“I couldn’t agree more on the topic of honking. Admittedly I find myself doing it more these days but I always end up annoyed with myself for doing it. I especially hate people that pull up to a house to pick someone up and honk rather than walking their lazy ass up to the door. Is a driveway really so long that you can’t be bothered to make the trek to the porch?”
I could crank it up a notch and spew out about 5 more minutes of angst, but I will keep that “by request only”.
@Pleasant Jenny regarding “don’t censor me bro”,
I think that’s how us married folk mess up the whole office dating scene. The friendliest of us can be the most confusing in certain situations.
@Always Right thanks for the link.
Since Concord’s largest employer is the school district, I went out to the link and took a look at the salaries of school district employees:
the top 44 (administrators, not teachers) made $160,000-$406,603.
Next time the teachers ask for even more money, they should look at those stats. That money doesn’t go to teachers, it goes to the administrators. I bet there are more clerical/administrative employees than active teachers out there.
And they are all getting paid with our tax dollars. Maybe its time the teachers cleaned out 2/3 of those non-teachers, and used the tax dollars to actually provide an education to our kids. That’s what we are taxed for, after all.
@ #35 I’m with Antler on this one.
Wikipedia or not, Occam’s Razor is the most useful tool to use on UFOs. Were the antsy AA gunners (with no actual experience) spooked into firing at nothing, or were there really flying saucers with little green men buzzing LA? You decide.
De La Salle wins 4th consecutive NCS Div 1 Soccer Title
2-0 Vs San Ramon.
Great Job Spartans.
For those who have paid for an overnight dog sitter, what’s the going rate? Where do they sleep?
#35 ~ ~ ~ mmmmmmmm, I’m going to turn loose of your string now. Don’t worry. You’ll be fine up there.
#33 ~ ~ ~ I would think that the driver had just received a call telling him to report elsewhere immediately, so he made a U-turn and kept listening to instructions from the dispatcher. That’s what I would think.
#36 ~ ~ ~ Beautiful post! I agree with you completely about the vibrant, wholesome aura a city full of cultural arts has about it. Concord was heading in that direction in the 60′s and 70′s, and then something changed….I won’t throw stones here. It’s just that the results fall short of what they might have been.
I haven’t been in to see the most recent show at Gallery Concord. Also, I want to ask them how some of our fine Claycord photographers would go about hanging some of their work in the gallery, maybe selling note cards with their photos on them, whatever.
golfman at #65 ~ ~ ~ It’s part of the scene, bro. Play through!
Ixnay, Lari, ixnay.
You want them over here? You know what happens when they come over her? Brentwood happens, that’s what. They move out to Brentwood and feel superior to Concord from over there, in between bitching about the smell and the mess all those nasty farms make.
C. Dobbs,
I agree. First of all, regarding the Big City dwellers – Let them be ignorant and keep their stereotypes in their concrete jungles where pollution, noise, crime, stress and grey hairs abound. Let them stay out there and not ruin what we have out here.
Brentwood YUPPIES: All of my Antioch High School Alumni (before Antioch was effed up) live in Brentwood, they think it’s Blackhawk or Ruby Hills. And now for a History lesson: The yuppies that moved to Brentwood were OFFENDED that a local convenience store/ gas station had a Cow statue on their property (intersection of balfour rd and hwy 4), they petitioned the City and it had to be removed. I guess it was TOO OFFENSIVE.
Keep your stereotypes in your closed minded concrete jungles. Good luck with that Hwy 4 parking lot – It wouldn’t matter if it was 20 lanes, it’s still a JOKE.
Overnight Dog Sitting = Contact East Bay Pet Care http://www.eastbaypetcare, we haven’t used them for overnight, but they are reasonably priced for daily cat visits. The owner is very knowledgable about all types of animals and also offer daily walking service, among other offerings. They take really good care of my cats when we travel, and will send us update texts if requested.
Hope that helps you!
So sorry to see Wine Thieves close and out of business in Clayton.
My new favorite grocery store… 99 Ranch at Stop n Shop.
Golfman@65,
You know, it’s perfectly alright to move an unattended cart; however, moving a cart more than 2 or 3 aisles is considered cart-rage.
There will be less uneducated, criminal and non-citizen idiots without insurance driving on the roads.
Face it, the requirement to be insured doesn’t stop people from driving without it. The requirement to register a vehicle doesn’t stop people from driving unregistered vehicles. The requirement to have a valid drivers license doesn’t stop people from driving without one.
The only thing that keeps them from being a menace to everyone on the roads is the high cost of gas. I say we add a $3/gallon tax, and use that money to fund public transit and the MUCH NEEDED law enforcement to ride herd on criminals that frequent it; one armed officer per bus.
Now, the anti-Constitution people should take note and stop worrying about guns and start thinking of ways to tax bullets out of the reach of the common thug.
Can someone recommend a good carpet cleaning business in Concord?
@Connie Dobbs & the Shi ite: that’s my husband’s take on the Oakland/SF-types who mock our beautiful area – that at least they won’t come here and ruin it! As for Brentwood…wow, I had no idea it was a haven of snobby people. I just go there seasonally to pick fruit, though, so what do I know.
@anon
My husband owns a carpet cleaning business. Not only is he fair priced but he does a great job. Check out our website. Our call us for an estimate. Rafael Rodriguez 510-485-2953
to JoRo: I believe you mean Park N Shop and before you dig 99 Ranch too much, look up the pigs-in-carts story here on claycord.com…..
@gashole
is your first name George?
“I say we add a $3/gallon tax, and use that money to fund public transit and the MUCH NEEDED law enforcement to ride herd on criminals that frequent it; one armed officer per bus.”
I doubt there are enough one armed officers available to put one on every bus.
Note if the government controls your Food, Shelter, Education, Communication, Transportation, and Health Care, they pretty much own you. Those are the 6 requirements for survival.
Of course, when you want to go Occupy SF, you’ll find that the government shut down the busses and BART, and killed your cell service.
Small price to pay, right? It must be part of that liberal “punish everyone but the criminals to eliminate criminals” mentality.
Don’t forget that everything you buy is delivered to the stores by trucks; they will pass their extra costs on to you, so you’ll really be paying tax not only on your fuel, but paying their fuel tax increase also.
And for what? So the government can get more money to spend on welfare, health care, section 8, and food stamps, for those crimnals and their families? wow. Way to go.
“Now, the anti-Constitution people should take note and stop worrying about guns and start thinking of ways to tax bullets out of the reach of the common thug.”
Here’s a thought: with all the laws agains felons and gangstas and druggies having guns, the enforcement is a total failure. If the cost of bullets goes up, they’ll just boost the price of that dime bag to cover it.
Of course, you’ll also be depriving lawful citizens of their Constitutional Rights, but having no reduction in criminals with guns as a result. Again, punishing lawwful Citizens in an unsuccessful attempt to reduce crime. Way to go!
Not.
Tack on a penalty for felonies that disqualifies felons and their families from every getting public assistance (like welfare, food stamps, health care, section 8 housing) and you’ll find we save enough in taxes to actually pay for more prisons and police as needed.
So, what is up with this “middle class tax relief”? Working through my 2011 taxes I see the decrease in SSN from 6.2% to 4.1%. Is this really a “tax relief” that only reaches tax payers who pay into SSN which would exclude teachers, firemen, police, congress and other government workers who pay into govt pensions?
Also curious why a reduction in SSN when there are already concerns that it will not be solvent in years to come?
Just wondering if anyone has heard anything regarding the rumor of the Krispy Kreme reopening in Concord at the Willows ? The corporate office says they have no record of any plans to re open the store and the building is still for lease ! Just wondering if the whole story was a hoax,or just wishfull thinking ?????
I would like to thank everyone who provided information/suggestions.
@jkatec # 57 – I like your idea of sharing pet sitting. I’ll give you a call tonight, see what we can come up with.
Many thanks again.
Homeless people taking over Claycord.
They are next to our schools.
They are under our bridges.
They are taking over our parks.
They are ripping us off blind.
And we continue to have to spend public funds on them daily.
How much more do we have to take, before the fricking Police Departments start to do their job ?
If they don`t start correcting this problem soon.
Maybe a group of us should do it for them.
I`d love to sweep out there camp sites, with a group of my friends.
But if i did, i bet i`d get thrown in jail.
Honest, hard working people can`t stand up for themselves.
And the Police Department just continues to sit on their hands.
Saying, “There is nothing we can do”
It`s sad when we drive down the highway with our kids.
Or go to public parks
Only to see the tents and waste left all around our town by the homeless.
And we can`t even give our kids a truthfull answer to why the Police continue to let this happen.
Been here for 52 years.
And this place is becoming a dump.
I use to get mad at others for saying it is getting like Richmond.
But i can`t argue anymore, because they are right.
Only safe place to take your famlies now a days for a BBQ and some fun.
Is our own back yards (and that isn`t right).
And the Police Department wonder why people have no faith in them.
And think they are useless.
I think the Police treat the homeless better then they do the honest, hard working people.
They seem to know more of them by name.
And have daily talks with them.
But just continue to let them do as they please.
I`m tired of seeing Policemen talking to the homeless, and the homeless standing next to their car with a big smile on their face.
Shouldn`t they be getting grilled by the cops, instead of having a buddy to buddy talk ?
It`s only going to get worse.
All the bums from other areas are starting to come here.
Because it is getting well known, that this place lets them do as they please.
Without bugging them.
I have no respect for any of todays police.
They are not here to serve and protect.
And that is truly sad
Did you guys feel the earthquake around noon? I’m in Walnut Creek. It was quick, but was quite a jolt!
to Police…Start Doing Your Job at #95: I like the way you formatted your post! You have a very justifiable complaint. Our current chief of police, Guy Swanger, just joined Concord P.D. last year. I attend my neighborhood’s partnership meetings and at the last one, held about a month ago, Chief Swanger attended (along with several other officers) as did members of Neighborhood Services. The Chief told us addressing the homeless was going to be his big focus for 2012. I don’t have any details, but I am applying to attend the Citizens Police Academy so if I get chosen I am sure I will learn more.
Does anybody here have Astound? If so, do you have HD and is it really glitchy, like the programming just freezes up at random?
I’ve been with them since they came into the area several years back, and I’m getting so frustrated with them I’m considering switching to Comcast.
As much as we pay per month for cable and internet access, the crappy quality is ridiculous.
to Phoenyx: have you notified Astound that you are having this problem? I think Astound is a much better company than Comcast. Much more customer service-oriented and the prices are better, too. I have Astound for internet and cable, including HD, and haven’t noticed any problems with the picture.
@Phoenyx:
I have Astound and I have the same problem with the HD signal. It only happens when the weather is warmer. I had them send a technician out and he told me that the coaxial cable running under my house to the HD box was old and needed replacing. I thought that was BS, but I got busy and never did anything about it. I guarantee if I start having the same problems as the weather warms up I will switch to Comcast. If I still have the same problem after that, maybe I’ll read a book.
@Phoenyx, in my many years as a home theater installer I have had a ton of experience with every cable provider out there. As far as astound is concerned I have never been impressed with the quality of their HD service. That being said, I don’t know how old your house is, but you may just need to upgrade your cable wiring. The problems you are describing are generally because the signal to the box isn’t strong enough.
#95 please read my post on the thread about he Fence around the Park. It concerns homeless issue and the Police. Please either go to the next City Council Mtg. or keep watching on TV. The Chief is going to address the new plans that he this applying to the issue.
If your negihborhood grp would like him to speak to them. He is very good at coming out and talking to people to explain and he brings the officers that cover your area.
LONG DISTANCE;
Can anybody recommend a very good long distance telephone carrier? I’m looking for good service at a good price (read cheap). Are there any pros and / or cons with your service.
Thanks, Pegasus
” Hi i’m Krishna Ovala and this is my last bill before I switched to Vonage”
**Insert catchy tune here**
@Nick:
So if the cable under the house is so old it should be replaced, would the problem be exacerbated in warmer weather? All winter and fall mine is fine (unless we have an unseasonably warm day) but all summer long the picture pixelates constantly. Maybe the tech that came out was right. But if I crawl under my house, replace the cable, and it doesn’t help – I’m coming after somebody!!!!!!!
Astound is awful which is why we went to uverse, love it!
@jeff #93
Yes, the KK rumor is true: See:

@CJ/Phoenyx: Don’t think cable; think cable ENDS. There’s nothing to go bad in the cable itself (unless you’ve got critters chewing it), more than likely it’s a connector, where the contact surfaces have oxidized. Try disconnecting then reconnecting each connector, moving the center wire in and out a few times to “wipe” the contact surfaces. Some contact cleaner spray would be ideal.
Sixty four Clayton Valley HS teachers resigning from MDUSD, effective June 2012. Does anyone know if this means all 64 are guaranteed positions on staff at the new Charter?

Ask yourself who sits on the board and who hires.
Pegasus,
First, I got a Google voice number.
Then I bought a $49 OBI 100 box from Amazon, and hooked it up to my home internet router.
Now, I don’t pay anything to make calls within the US.
People, when it comes to pet sitting, it’s not a matter of just chosing who’s cheaper. Remember when you’re looking at a professional that’s pricier, that they should be bonded, licensed and insured. Personally if I were arranging for someone to spend the weekend at my home, I’d pay more for someone screened. This is just my personal preference and no reflection on casual arrangements made between folks on a budget.
@CJ, there are two possible scenarios where warmer weather would be a factor and it’s related to something within your home. They both boil down to the fact that warmer temperatures are not conducive to good functionality with anything electronic.
Scenario one, which is the simple fix, is that your cable box(es) need replacing. If a cable box is already having issues, they will generally be worse as it gets hotter.
Scenario two, time to run new wire. Electrical signals are better conducted in cooler temperatures. While the signal in your cable lines is low voltage, it is still electrical current. If the wiring in your house is older, lower gauge wire, and already being pushed beyond its limits, this will be exacerbated by hotter temps.
I suppose there is a third possibility that I have a hard time arguing with which is, simply, astound’s HD sucks. The reality is though, the most likely culprit is the wiring in your house. Replace it with some shiny new quad shield RG6 and I bet you’re sitting pretty.
@larrabee, you’re right about connectors, wrong about cable not going bad. Modern cable service requires more bandwidth. Also, if the cable in you house is older cable with poor insulation, the copper can become oxidized due to not being fully protected from the air around it.
A recent study found the average American walks about 900 miles
a year.
Another study found Americans drink, on average, 22 gallons of alcohol a year .
That means, on average, Americans get about 41 miles to the gallon.
Kind Of Makes You Proud To Be American.
Yes, run the new coax cable with new end connectors and keep the splits down to a minimal. I run my own and do my best keep my distance (a foot if possible) from any electrical runs. Take care not to staple or nail thru the cable.
Thanks Antler I saved your quote for future recycling, it was a great one!
@Cowellian: The free USA Google calls are only good through the end of 2012. FYI.
While rushing to BART to drop off the H, I had to wait. For two pidgeons using the crosswalk. I admit to pondering…why?
Make My Day at #117 ~ ~ ~ I’m glad you enjoyed! And thank you for making me notice that I neglected to use quotation marks and follow with “anonymous”; I had done a quick “Cut and Paste” from the email a friend had sent,
DoReMi, that was very considerate of you.
And I have to chuckle.
And what were the pigeons dropping off?
There was an accident that had major police/AMR response in P. Hill at the crazy 680-N on-ramp on Monument Blvd. Anyone know what happened? No cars looked too bashed but there were kids involved (they were outside of a car being held with 2 ambulances). That car was by the retaining wall before you get to the on-ramp with its rear-end against the wall; another 2 cars were smooshed together on the on-ramp at the light. Just wondering… traffic was backed up big-time on Monument as only 1 lane was opened at the Kohls/Monument intersection (Around 2:50pm)
Richmond cops tried to set up their boss, feds say
Justin Berton
Tuesday, February 28, 2012
Two Richmond police officers, angered by an investigation
into their off-duty security company, tried to frame their
supervisor by having him lured into an extramarital affair,
federal prosecutors say.
In legal papers filed in U.S. District Court, prosecutors
said the two officers had hired a Concord private investigator
who specialized in stings using female decoys to tempt men
into misconduct.

Guess Who?
used to be a 1″ wide crosswalk at Briones, reserved for salamanders.
I am still enjoying ” on average, Americans get about 41 miles to the gallon ” from Antler. Indeed. I AM proud to be an American. Both for reals and in humor.
RE: jtkatec and Cowellian and the pidgeons.
It was just a weird moment. I was turning left and therefore blocking the oncoming traffic before I noticed the two birds waddling in the crosswalk. I hit the brakes, rocked back and forth a few times and then thought ‘WHY aren’t they flying away?’. Then I thought, ‘WHY are they in the crosswalk?’ When I came to I thought,’WHY are you pausing for these silly birds?’.
As I proceeded they gave a little half hearted flap to hurry up. Sheesh!
If you don’t want to use Comcast or Astound, you can always download movies for free at veehd.com. I started using it about 3 months ago and I couldn’t be happier. I download about one movie a day onto a usb stick and plug it into my playstation3 to watch. The quality is the same as a rental movie or Comcast. I could watch it on my computer but my computer is old and buffers a lot.
I was originally really reluctant to download their divx converting program so I looked it up on wiki. All this free movie shareware has been around for 10 years – I feel so behind the times.
I know I sound like an ad, but I’m really sold on this technology.
First pre-season game on Saturday
Go Giants
So glad it is Baseball season again
@Cowellian,
Pigeons? Dropping?
Why pigeon droppings of course!
Oh no……!!!! I am HEARTBROKEN!!! Davy Jones from the Monkees has passed away from a heart attack at age 66. Noooooo……!!! RIP……
No Monkey’s reunion.
Sorry, Monkees. My bad.
anyone know what is going on down at the Martinez marina tonight…..coast guard boat searching waters and MTZPD and Sherriffs on pier 9:34 pm Wednesday night
and from the seediest side of the news, Thomas Jewell got 29 years. Yeeaaah!
Champagne Kitty at #131 ~ ~ ~ I feel sad, too. He seemed like the nicest, most down-to-earth one.
Just curious if anyone knows why there were 3 unmarked cars on Concord Blvd. near woodside court. Police were seen with a battering a ram leaving the home on Concord Blvd.
Thank you Kristi!
chris at #137 ~ ~ ~ Well, those people had been hearing a lot of sheep bleating recently. Bet they’re glad the police finally got that ram out of their neighborhood! Did you call Animal Services to report the battering, though?
If your spouse or significant other was an alcoholic and you had an infant child, would you risk leaving the child day or night with that person?
Vonage is awesome for long distance calls.
I’m surprised not to see any other posts inquiring abouy the automatic weapon fire followed by two ghetto birds in the air at 9:00pm tonight. Was it the police at the gun range? Then why the two ghetto birds? Anyone hear the shots?
#140 ~ ~ ~ You already know the answer to that question.
@surprised, in what area? I hate to think that we’re getting used to it around here.
@nick, I’m off Bailey, between Clayton and Concord. Shots sounded north/north west. Choppers started in same area, went south, then back north. Looked to be flying closer to downtown, maybe a bit farther west towards 680 though. Hard to tell though
SCAM alert:
Beware of people posing as high school or college students needing “points” to travel abroad (or some other story) and trying to get you to buy magazine subscriptions. They may walk up and try a hard sales pitch no matter what you happen to be doing in your front yard. A somewhat odd looking late teens/early-20s guy who resembled Kenny Chesney tried this in mid-Concord last week, and we smelled a rat right away.
It led to some research about magazine-pushing being a nationwide phenomenon for many years.
Has anyone lost a rabbit in the Treat/Clayton area? We found it this afternoon in our driveway and are taking care of it until we find it’s owner. Anyone???
A rabbit??? Yikes! “nasty, big, pointy teeth!!! “
@Jim
That same guy came to my door, I believe early-mid last week. When he started talking s#*# for not buying his kids books, I followed him out in front and damn near beat his a#*
broadcast msg about YV high school…sucide attempt stopped by kids today..2nd period
Jim, here’s what to do if you get those “points” scammers on your porch:

Thanks to the pictured in the Gardan Girl’s column , I went out to the Clayton nursery and saw the lovely Veronica plant, low-spreading and covered with bright blue-purple blooms (3 blooming stretches per year) and also saw the stunning Coprosma “Evening Glow” bush pictured last week. Also, I enjoyed visiting with staff member/ownere Nicole and Melanie, such very pleasant and knowledgeable Claycord neighbors.
Where’s the Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch?
… And the LORD spake, saying, “First shalt thou take out the Holy Pin, then shalt thou count to three, no more, no less. Three shall be the number thou shalt count, and the number of the counting shall be three. Four shalt thou not count, neither count thou two, excepting that thou then proceed to three. Five is right out. Once the number three, being the third number, be reached, then lobbest thou thy Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch towards thy foe, who being naughty in My sight, shall snuff it.”
