Another Robbery in Pleasant Hill – Suspects Arrested by PHPD Near Treat & Cowell in Concord

February 18, 2012 9:14 am · 54 comments

Claycord had three robberies last night, and after the last robbery, the police caught the suspects.

First, the GasMaxx (Arco) gas station near BART on Clayton Road in Concord was robbed, then the Chevron on Morello in Pleasant Hill was also held up at gunpoint a few minutes later.

The third robbery occurred late last night near the old Safeway on Golf Club Road in Pleasant Hill. According to the Pleasant Hill Police, the victim was walking alone on the 200 block of Golf Club Road when he was attacked by two suspects. One of the suspects displayed a black handgun.

The suspects stole property from the victim and fled the scene.

Patrol officers quickly developed leads and the suspects were located within the City of Concord near the intersection of Treat Boulevard and Cowell Road.

The victim’s property was recovered from the suspects and a replica handgun was also found in their possession, according to police.

Both suspects were arrested and booked into County Jail and Juvenile Hall.

One of the suspects is a juvenile, and the other has been identified as 18-year-old Ofa Tongilava, of Concord.

There’s no word yet on if all three of these robberies are connected.

Good job CPD!!!

2 Book 'em! February 18, 2012 at 9:23 AM

Way to go CPD!!!! Boom them all, even the Juvie. Throw their butts in jail.

3 Palermo February 18, 2012 at 9:37 AM

Good job, hope they catch the other ones too

4 anon February 18, 2012 at 9:49 AM

Maybe they are the suspects that were involved in the pizza delivery driver robbery a few weeks ago.

5 polarbear February 18, 2012 at 10:00 AM

Canning would work wonders for these pukes, now if can get the others great job cpd.

6 D.V. guy February 18, 2012 at 10:03 AM

It’s time for some HARSH punishment!!, these boys need extended time in a highly regimented work camp to bring them around before it’s too late.
Throwing these kids in a thug academy will only make things worse as some of you may have already noticied. You can look around town and see the graduates, they are the walking dead you see in our community.

7 Yay CPD! February 18, 2012 at 10:33 AM

Search their homes and recover many other victims’ belongings yet? It’s likely not the first or fifth time they’ve robbed someone. BTW, are these thugs white, black, or ? I’d like to update my THUG statistics.

8 previously Concord momma February 18, 2012 at 10:53 AM

Just to point out at least 1 if the 2 suspects are not from pittsburg……but from concord.

9 Mik February 18, 2012 at 11:43 AM

Sounds like a Tongan/Samoan last name. Get them all, CPD!

10 J February 18, 2012 at 12:02 PM

I wonder how many of the local robberies are done with replica-guns?

11 junkiedog February 18, 2012 at 12:32 PM

too bad our laws are not tough enough. these guys will be out in no time. The DA will not waste time on them. We need to legislate automatic punishment/prison time for these types of crimes and put some teeth into our laws. I think there may be some wisdom to cutting hands/fingers of these criminals. They may think twice.

12 lemonlyle February 18, 2012 at 1:36 PM

Pleasant Hill PD are the ones who caught them.

13 anon February 18, 2012 at 1:37 PM

Lock them up and loose the key!!!!! With all the robberies going on we need harsher punishment, a couple nights in jail won’t do it!!!
Chop their fingers off so they can’t use their hands!!!!! Now that’s harsh punishment and may teach others!

14 Nick February 18, 2012 at 1:50 PM

@Mik, it definitely sounds Tongan or Samoan but, what does that have to do with the price of tea in China? When you say “get them all” do you mean all criminals or just all islanders?

15 Annonymous February 18, 2012 at 1:58 PM

look, the kids messed up, big deal..all of you commenting on it need to shut up and rfealize no one is perfect, all you people have made mistakes to..they deserve a second chance and instead of sitting here talking about the negatives , we should think positively and help these kids turn their lives around.

16 J February 18, 2012 at 2:06 PM

There are high res cameras at all the major intersections in Claycord. When are these not used to capture license numbers when these robbers flee the area?

17 Craig Cannon February 18, 2012 at 2:15 PM

Perhaps our nightly robbery spree will cease for a while. Seems like the same pattern, but the next nights will tell all. What can possibly be gained by these petty armed robberies? Sad situation lately around here.

18 Teri February 18, 2012 at 2:16 PM

Thank God! I was starting to get worried.

19 Teri February 18, 2012 at 2:18 PM

#15, I’m sorry, but you’re an idiot.Yeah, let’s gets all touchy feelie about people who use guns to rob others. NOT.

20 anonamiss February 18, 2012 at 2:55 PM

Annon @ 15, “ook, the kids messed up, big deal..all of you commenting on it need to shut up and rfealize no one is perfect, all you people have made mistakes to.”

I agree that no one is perfect, we all have had our learning moments in life. But most of us here probably did not use force, a replica hand gun to steal away someone else’s property. You are trying to diminish the severity of their acts. This is not a childhood prank, like playing with uncle Charlie’s toupee and turning it green, kind of thing. This is serious stuff!!
That is why these potential thugs have no real understanding of the gravity of their crimes and why so man today think it is no big deal to rob a person of their property.

21 CJ February 18, 2012 at 2:59 PM

Polarbear #5:
Are we going to teach them to can fruits and vegetables, or actually stick them in a can? Because that seems a little harsh, even to me.

22 Free Ofa February 18, 2012 at 3:01 PM

You stupid ignorant people. I know Ofa and he’s a great person he wouldnt harm a fly. He made one mistake and now has to pay the price. He shouldn’t be held accountable for one little mistake.

23 Mik February 18, 2012 at 3:03 PM

@Nick; I meant get all the criminals that have been robbing places and people left and right lately.

24 MommaToTwo February 18, 2012 at 3:09 PM

# 15 … what mistakes are you talking about ? I’ve never robbed anyone that I know of and Im pretty sure Ive never been arrested either. Having my dad as an SF Police Inspector took care of that ( meaning he scared me too much to want to get into trouble ) .

25 anon February 18, 2012 at 3:09 PM

@free Ofa…….. one mistake… and how would you know, his one mistake could have taken someones life! One mistake is one too many!! He should be locked up and punished for his wrong doing! Oh and loose the key!

26 Annonymous February 18, 2012 at 3:21 PM

ofa is a great person..yeah his one .little mistake is a big mistake..but, he has never harmed anyone, he is true to all his friends, he is around my family and i all the time..did everyone think to not judge them off of one mistake and see where they grew up..maybe this kid doesnt have a family..maybe he didnt have someone there to teach him right and wrong, maybe he only knows how to take matters into his own hands..no one here knows what that kid has been trhough the last couple years and none of you know him , dont judge cuz u sure as hell would not like if someone judged you off of a mistake you made..yeah its not funny to hold a gun to someone and take there stuff, but this guys is a great person..he deserves punishment, yes..but he doesnt deserve shit to be talked about him on here,

27 Patrick February 18, 2012 at 3:28 PM

@Conclusion-Jumper aka Nick…I’m pretty sure Mik was responding to Yay CPD’s question as to whether they were black, white, whatever.

Why are you always so quick to jump on the race issue? Do you just look for every opportunity to stir the controversy pot? I’m fairly certain we’re not all as racist as you would like us to be, even though that would certainly help support your wacky insinuations if we were.

Also, facts are facts…if the robberies of late have MOSTLY been committed by a certain race, and the dog attacks of the last twenty years have MOSTLY been committed by a certain breed, what is wrong with discussing those facts?

28 Jeff February 18, 2012 at 3:32 PM

Ofa supporter –

It could have been his last mistake.

Don’t minimize or try to justify what he did. He’s a criminal. You may know him as a nice kid who made a mistake, but you can’t deny that what he did needs to have consequences. If he’d have pulled a gun on me and I couldn’t tell it was a replica, he’d be 6 ft under.

29 Mik February 18, 2012 at 3:37 PM

@Free Ofa and Annonymous; You will NEVER get anywhere trying to defend a family or friend who has done a crime and is unfortunate enough to have it posted here on Claycord. People on here will have their own opinions and judgements and most of them are a-holes who couldn’t give a crap about the person they’re judging. Everybody is a “good person” when they are around family and friends, what about when they’re not? What about when they’re around the bad influences? Are they strong enough to say, ‘no, I’m not down to rob anyone tonight.. I wanna get my sh-t together’ or weak enough to follow along and rob people? This is the ONLY side we see of the suspect, so of course we are going to judge him off of this. You probably have NO IDEA what it feels like to be robbed at gun point by some guys when you’re just trying to go buy some damn groceries. First impressions DO matter and he will ALWAYS be a worthless coward through our eyes.

30 Annonymous February 18, 2012 at 3:40 PM

@polar bear..ur right id prolly go cry to my mom, but thats besides the poiont..if u were in ofas position, u wouldnt want people talking sh*t about u over the internet, you would be embarrassed about how bad you f’d up and you would want a second chance knowing you would never do something like that again..you wouldnt want to be judged.you would want another chance to prove your not a bad person.

31 Ridiculous February 18, 2012 at 3:46 PM

Mr.Mayor,

By putting this all in one post, you are insinuating that all three robberies were connected. I just reread the gas station robbery posts and they were clearly NOT committed by Ofa. To put them all together casts blame on an individual, the only one named, who may or may not be found guilty of ONE robbery, but does not match the physical description of the other two.

32 CLAYCORD.com February 18, 2012 at 3:50 PM

@Ridiculous, I clearly stated in the last sentence “There’s no word yet on if all three of these robberies are connected.”.

33 Annonymous February 18, 2012 at 4:00 PM

all of you are worthless cowards in my eyes for saying this over internet when none of you would ever say it in person to him..judgemental people wont ever go anywhere in life either

34 Ridiculous February 18, 2012 at 4:06 PM

Yes, you clearly stated that; may I ask why, then, you put them all together? I know Ofa and he does not match the descriptions in the other robberies. Insinuating in the entire post, title and all, and then making one statement at the end, albeit clear, still casts blame on a young man who has yet to be proven guilty.

35 Nick February 18, 2012 at 4:16 PM

@Patrick, I actually hadn’t noticed the other comment that you mentioned.

@Mik, (and Patrick too I suppose)

Fair enough. I did jump to a conclusion to a certain extent. Mainly based on the usual b.s. that I see around here lately. I agree that this crap is getting out of control. I just believe we should shoot all on site. Not just the darker folks that are pointed out so often here.

My bad for assuming.

36 CJ February 18, 2012 at 4:45 PM

@Anonymous:
If your buddy wants people to stop talking shit about him on Claycord, maybe he should try holding us at gunpoint. That’s apparently how he believes in getting other things he wants.
You stated that he is a great person. I know enough about him already to say you’re wrong. Great people go out of their way to help people and contribute to society. Great people, by definition, do not commit armed robbery. You call his actions a mistake. A mistake is forgetting to pay your water bill, or making a wrong turn and getting lost. What this asshat did is a crime, possibly felonious. I’m sorry, but your friend is decidedly not great. He is a criminal and a scumbag.

37 CJ February 18, 2012 at 4:52 PM

And before you defenders of this upstanding citizen go on a rant about innocent until proven guilty:

“The victim’s property was recovered from the suspects and a replica handgun was also found in their possession, according to police.”

So I’ll take my chances jumping to a conclusion. Rants about corrupt police starting in 3, 2, 1……. Where is Clair Voyance when we need him/her?

38 Mik February 18, 2012 at 5:04 PM

@Annonymous; LOL, who cares about what you think of me. I’ve never done a crime in my life and I WILL go far in life. I’m not out robbing people for their money. I’m actually going to school and working as a source of income. Just because we come on here and read about your friend or whoever committing a crime and call him a worthless coward for stealing and robbing someone innocent doesn’t mean we’re judgmental a-holes who lose sleep off of this. When I see someone in real life, I have no clue what they’ve done in the past.. Therefore, I don’t worry or give a crap about them.

@Ridiculous; I think he put the links there because he mentioned at the very beginning of the post that there were THREE robberies in one night, then proceeded to link them off. He did not say they were connected and clearly said that he didn’t know whether they were connected or not. The title says nothing about Mayor blaming Ofa for all three crimes. Mayor is just reporting which crimes have taken place, where, and who has been arrested. If people actually read the article, they would know that Ofa wasn’t to blame for all the robberies that occurred last night.

@Nick; No offense taken, I understand. I see a lot of the race cards being pulled here. I was just replying to whoever asked in the first few comments and was a bit unclear in my comment as well.

39 CJ February 18, 2012 at 5:10 PM

Sorry polarbear, just f’ing with you! :-)

40 Cowellian February 18, 2012 at 5:16 PM

It’s no wonder the crime rate is as high as it is. Every time a criminal is caught, all the enablers come crawling out from under their rocks, just to tell the rest of us that we shouldn’t talk about the criminals.

It’s enablers like Annonymous and Free Ofa who provide the support system for these thugs, making all of them part of Claycord’s crime problem.

Armed robbery is not some mistake, it’s a crime.

41 Antler February 18, 2012 at 7:42 PM

Now get down off that chair before you break a hip! :-)

The PH Police are searching for a suspect with canine, heat-seeking instrument and helicopter for over the last 1 1/2 hours between Strandwood and Reliez Valley. Does anybody have any more info on what happened?

44 niki d February 18, 2012 at 9:53 PM

I was there at the one in Pleasant Hill at the gas station off morello! kinda scary. I was dining in that shopping center when the cops were running all over searching all the buildings and behind the buildings for the guys who robbed the gas station. this damn crime needs to stop in pleasant hill seriously.

@ Free Ofa and other-liked minded posts.

Your friend made an extremely poor choice. Perhaps this is the first time he’s done this, perhaps not – he may have done this in the past and was not caught. However, there are consequences for all of our choices, both good and bad. If one continually makes poor choices, serious ramifications will eventually occur.

No, I do not know him and it sounds like he was capable of being a “nice” person. However, what he did the other evening was not “nice.” It was mean, inconsiderate and criminal and sounds like this was done to someone minding their own business, walking down the street.

I try to surround myself with responsible, kind, law-abiding people – the ones who treat not only me, but others, with courtesy and respect. Please look at the whole picture and choose your friends accordingly.

50 FREE OH! February 22, 2012 at 3:32 PM

FREE THE BIG BRO OFA !
Yes, knowing that Ofa had made a mistake, and yes, he should pay for what he did, but he doesnt deserve to get talked about like this. He’s been going through a lot of pain the past few years, and it’s obviously caught up to him & he doesnt know how to handle it. If you all knew the REAL Ofa, & not the things you hear about him committing a crime, you wouldnt be talking shit. Don’t judge a book by its cover. Plain and simple. Ofa’s the guy who is ALWAYS there for you. Regardless of the time of day. Always tries to be in a cheerful mood, even when deep down inside he’s hurting. You would always catch him with a smile on his face, walking around playing his ukulele. How would you feel if it was your friend, brother, sister or family member being treated this way, by people who are supposed to be “neighbors” in their community?

51 Nick February 22, 2012 at 3:45 PM

@free oh! #51,

I don’t judge a book by its cover. I do however judge a person by their actions. Cry me a river with the pain he’s been going through. I’m only sympathetic prior to violent crimes being committed. For the record, if it was my brother I would say the same. I have had loved ones get themselves into trouble of varying degrees and have treated all very objectively.

52 J February 22, 2012 at 3:54 PM

Put it on craigslist: Free (S)Ofa.

53 CJ February 22, 2012 at 3:59 PM

I’m sure OFA had a big fat smile on his face as he held a gun on his VICTIM. If you’re his friend, why didn’t you help him handle his problems without VICTIMIZING an innocent person? If this was my kid, I’d throw him under the bus. Protecting these scumbags from the reality of the pain and suffering they cause others does them no good, and it continues to tear our communities apart. Put this piece of crap in jail for a long time!

54 Gun Owner February 22, 2012 at 4:04 PM

If I was around OFA would have gotten one in the head and two in the chest.
