On 11/25/11 Concord Police Officers and Consolidated Fire Department personnel were sent to a residence in the 3600 block of Wren Avenue regarding a 47 year old male subject who stopped breathing. Officers and Fire Fighters attempted life saving measures which were unsuccessful. The long term girlfriend who reported the death told officers the victim had a history of significant health and medical issues which were ultimately confirmed. The victim’s death was classified and investigated as a natural cause death.
On 01/17/12 Concord Police Department Major Crimes Detectives were contacted by a potential witness alleging the death was in fact a homicide caused by the victim’s long term girlfriend. In the following days Detectives obtained additional evidence supporting and corroborating the fact the girlfriend had suffocated and killed the victim during a physical altercation.
On 01/20/12 Detectives served an arrest warrant for the suspect, 41 year old Concord resident Dava Alizabeth-Ann Steen, and took her into custody. A search warrant was served at the residence and additional items of evidence seized.
On 01/24/12 the investigation was presented to the Contra Costa County District Attorneys Office and homicide charges were obtained against Dava Alizabeth-Ann Steen for the murder of her boyfriend, Danny Ray Bennett.
No further information is being released at this time to protect the integrity of the investigation.

Wow, I went to school with her, and her mom taught at Mt. Diablo Elementary when I was there in the late 70s/early 80s. As I recall, neither one of them had a reputation for being very nice. Never would’ve expected this, though!

Next week the Senate Judicial committee will vote to introduce the reauthorization of VAWA, the Violence Against Women Act. VAWA is a gender biased law.
We at SAVE, Stop Abusive and Violent Environments, have found several flaws in VAWA, aside from being gender biased. So we created the Partner Violence Reduction Act (PVRA). http://www.saveservices.org/pvra/ The PVRA adds accountability and accreditation (and with VAWA at a billion dollars, this is kind of important). It makes it gender inclusive, and it adds legal assistance to the accused. (10% of Americans are falsely accused of abuse.)
PLEASE call these Senators and ask them to vote NO on VAWA, and ask them to support the PVRA instead.
